We already know the full companion list for DA:I, so obviously this directed at future DA games beyond Inquisition. But is anyone else hoping we'll eventually see a barbarian companion?

So far all of the human companions have come from the civilized nations of Thedas. Morrigan, who was at least partially Chasind and from the Korcari Wilds may be somewhat of an exception, but she was also provided with a education by her mother. Other than some Chasind physical traits and her background as Flemeth's daughter, she was not very different from the people of Ferelden, and didn't appear to be culturally Chasind.

A Chasind or Avvar companion could be interesting IMO, because they could potentially open up a lot more lore on the peoples who live on the uncivilized fringes of Thedas, and because culturally they'd be very different from other humans from Thedas and may worship other gods other than the Maker. Their mages, as apostates, also might have magical traditions and spell schools that are very different from those of the Circle Towers. It might also be interesting to hear the Chasind or Avvar take on major historical characters and events, like Andraste and the Exalted Marches, Flemeth and Cormac, or the downfall of the Elves.

I would love an Avvar companion, it would be really interesting to see their views on events, such as the blight or veil tears. Something that would be cool to explore is their interpretation of Maferath as he was one of them. Also more information on their Shamans and their belief in the old Almarri gods would be very welcomed.

Also one of my favourite characters out of the expanded universe is Kell ap Morgan and by extension Hafter from "The Calling," who was a Jarl of the Avvars, he was just so interesting and cool.

I don't know very much on the Chasind, so I would like to learn more about them.

A chasind companion would be very interesting because it would allow us to explore a culture which, as far as I can tell, is unlike any other in Thedas. Also it might allow us to go deeper into the mysteries of Flemeth.

None of them speak Greek, so technically they are all barbarians.  ;)

Would a Chasind companion work or would it cause people to hate you more, they don't seem to be very tolerated.  I'd definitely like one though, especially an Avvar companion at some point

I'm using barbarian as shorthand for a tribal people who have not urbanized, who have an oral tradition rather than a written history, and who are viewed as being primitive by their more urbanized, literate neighbors.

To be clear I'm not actually saying that these peoples are barbaric, its just much less of a mouthful than all of the above.

I think it could work.

After all the protagonists of DA games also travel around with elves, apostate mages, and qunari. I don't doubt that some people, perhaps even some of your own companions, may have negative views of the Chasind or Avvar. But I don't think that would necessarily rule them out as a potential companion. If anything it just creates more drama, which is always a good thing.

Yes! I think it's a bit late for DA:I, but I would love to see a Chasind companion in the next game.

I want an Avvar/Chasind background like the one that was scrapped from Origins. Or at least to interact with a tribe. The Sky Cult and it's practices are cool. Avvars tying knots to figure out how long their marriage will last... that sort of thing. And there's at least two more cults.

We already had the barbarians in DA2 so hopefully we don’t get them again.

Could be interesting. Though we have had Dalish, who could be seen to offer a similar perspective

No, they mostly come from Fereldan [/orlesian]

So long as they're partly inspired by Karsa Orlong. Plus points for them telling the pc "Witness." before they accomplish an improbable task.

I'm not a fan of tribal characters. In fact, the less urbanized and sophisticated the setting, the less interesting I find it. Which is why, for example, I see Ferelden as an uninteresting backwater (compared with, say, Tevinter, Par Vollen, or Orlais).

The Avvars/Chasind are certainly an interesting bunch,I'd love to learn more about them and their ways and having a companion originating from one of these tribes, is certainly a very good way to find more about them.

On a side note if we ever get a barbarian companion and that companion happens to be male, he needs to be voiced by the guy that played Shagga, son of Dolf.

It is known.  B)

How they will include such an companion when there is no dual wielding ? They should ask how Blizzard did this 10 years ago so next time they can do it as well. Since it is so hard to do. Any average studio could unfold for them the secret of dual wielding swords though, not necessary to be someone particular.

There is a sad lack of barbarian-related content in Dragon Age thus far. Where are the Avvar party members? The Chasind? Ah well.

Umm... what? There is no link between dual wielding and barbarians.

I see Ferelden as an uninteresting backwater (compared with, say, Tevinter, Par Vollen, or Orlais).

What I like about Ferelden is that it's the closest thing we've seen to any sort of meritocratic government in Thedas. Commoners are free to choose which noble they give their allegiance to, and the nobles have the same rights as relates to higher nobles (e.g. which banns serve which arls). This creates the idea that rulership is something that arises from the people, and is a nice contrast with the Orlesian model where the Empress and her nobles rule due to divine right.
