We're talking about different things. I'm talking about the capability to adapt to different situations in the middle of combat, an area under AOE damage, a path filled with traps, a boss that hits heavily at melee range, stuff like that. You don't need an archer skill tree to do that, just to able to equip a bow or crossbow and do the basic attack. Doing less damage as someone proficient with that weapon, as it should be.

In the same way I don't think that the fact that companions can equip diffent weapons necessarily means that they are going to lose their individual trees.

Ok that i can agree with, you mean like what was in DA:O, the switch weapon option?

What makes you think that Aveline doesn't know how to shoot an arrow even if she prefers to fight at melee range? Don't you think that she would do it if she finds it more efficient in a particular situation?

Why wouldn't Varric keep a dagger close at hand even if he prefers to fight with a crossbow, in case somebody sneaks behind him?

Cmon m8 lol

Varric had a blade attached to Bianca, IIRC.

The pc isnt a person unto himself in exactly the same way, the pc is noone until we make him/her, wee define who the pc

The only difference is who the writer is. Until each character is defined by its writer, it has no characteristics. But once defined, each character, PC and NPC alike, is his own person in exactly the same way.

The player should be able to give any character any weapon just by distributin stat points correctly (not including mage staffs for non mages, only as regular staffs).
