Ash's marksman bug keeps me from using her often.
I still can't believe this was never fixed.

he is a good overall character. Also it would have been cool during ME3 he has a sidequest where he become N7 Destroyer.
James is awesome.I personally wouldn't romance him, but it is a shame Bioware didn't make him romanceable. He's got alot of potential for that, and it would probably make him the most interesting human love interest in the game.
I hardly use him at all, but I don't mind none at all about him being a potential romance for FemShep.
I prefer Ash or Garrus. I don't particularly care for James one way or the other. He's just a grunt. I only interact with him for paragon/renegade points. As a squad member... meh.

Uh, no offense.

I just mean there is nothing special about him other than his obsession with body building. He's a good soldier and all, but he's not one in a million. He is one of a million. You could replace him with almost any other alliance soldier.
I could say the same exact thing about Kaidan or Ashley as well. In the grander scheme of things, just about any Alliance soldier that isn't Shepard in this story is basically one of a million too. Difference is, what kind of personality would I be dealing with in that Alliance soldier substitute, or rather, what kind of personality would I like to replace him with? Certainly not someone who is more serious, because there's enough seriousness to make Bugs Bunny catatonic as it is.

The Virmire Survivors are pretty much just "that" in ME3 since they play a very passive role that almost makes you think they didn't even exist....

Basically, the most "interesting" characters we get in this series among the human variety range from a violent merc thug to an emotionally unstable murderer.
He's just a grunt.
That's one of the things I like about him, he keeps my Shepard grounded.
When ME3 first came out I resented James being part of the crew instead of a ME2 character. So during my first couple of playthroughs I tended to ignore him in the same way I ignored multiplayer. It wasn't until I did my first Soldier Squad playthrough with Ash and James that I came to appreciate him. Since then he has become one of my favourite teammates and I use him more than I use Liara.

Except for his experience with the Collectors and Fehl Prime prior to Shepard's heroics, which entirely negated a tough and casualty-filled leadership decision he had to make about specific intel, as well as him being asked to join the N7 program. His ability to maintain a respectful sense of humor during the Reaper war is pretty valuable, too, and the Normandy needs someone around who can make decent huevos rancheros.

The dude's an N7 trainee and an Allinace officer. He is far away from being a grunt.
I could say the same exact thing about Kaidan or Ashley as well.
No you can't. Only three alliance Soldiers are Council Spectres and high ranking Alliance Officers at the same time. If Ash and Kaidan are grunts than so is Shepard.

The VS only gets to be a Spectre because Udina has his convoluted plot. They aren't qualified whatsoever.

Garrus is the epitome of this really. I have no idea what that guy's role is, he's just there. He's the least plot relevant squadmate in ME3.
Vega is great. He's one of the only squadmates you get that understands the weight of choice with which Shepard has to deal both during the Reaper war and before. The other notable squadmate in this topic is
Garrus

No. Their Spectres because humanity needed more human spectres representing them, and they are by far the most qualified humans. They got their name put forward by Udina just like Shepard did in ME1.

They aren't qualified whatsoever. Neither of them are even N7, the best combative operatives in the Alliance. Both of them are just infantry, Ashley especially.

Please tell me where on the Spectre Candidate skill requirement form it says you need to be N7 and not Infantry?

They aren't the best options available. They aren't top of the line in skill, and are unqualified to be "the arm of the council." Neither of them has any experience with operating in a way even close to what being a Spectre entails.
They are grunts. Far more than Vega is.

Before I reply to this nonsense I would really like to know who you think is more qualified.
I'm really looking forward to finding out.

Any N7 operator? Or any N6, N5, N4, N3, N2, or N?
