We could do without a lot of characters. We don't really need even half of ME2's team. We don't need Wrex or Garrus in ME1. We don't need Specialist Traynor, or Gabby and Kenneth. If we pared the game down to what we absolutely needed for the story to progress, it'd be pretty frakkin' empty. This isn't a matter of what's required; it's simply a matter of what you desire, or rather, what you want removed because you don't like it. If you liked Vega, none of this necessity stuff would make a lick of difference.

That is technically true, and it may be the formula in which the "Mass Effect" movie will take. But yes, a lot of characters are unnecessary or play an unimportant role to the degree where they aren't even required for story progression. But, in every game, you need a lot of characters to fill in the emptiness of the game. Great characters that you may like or dislike("hate" is a strong word)will play a role to actually make the game enjoyable. The OP is simply asking for a "New Game" Shepard in Mass Effect 3 which is horrendous!

@Tsunayoshi you really are a bigot. People call others derogatory words to reflect themselves an insecurities because they feel threatened or intimidated. Maybe you should get a therapist or join the bioware chantry. I'm sure they'll love to listen to your bigotry.

Ofcourse, the most powerful Biotic in the galaxy besides Shepard has no place on the Normandy, nor the battlefield./sarcasm

And no, not talking about Jack. Bioware did a horrible job at making her 'extremely powerful'. Pull, Shockwave and Warp Ammo, are you f'ing kidding me??? And in ME3, she gets a Warp. Woohoo. How is that in any way or shape more powerful than someone who drops singularities like Hansel and Gretel dropped breadcrumbs, can do Stasis, and also has Warp and Warp Ammo?

They should've made a special power for Jack that just ignored every kind of protection, like Flare. Instead you get a biotic with no access to Barrier, but does use shotguns (...) and has a useless power like Shockwave.

Shockwave used to be powerful. It was totally nerfed in ME3. I remember having my vanguard and jack going biotic bowling. Honestly, I wish they brought back ME1's throw specifically for Jack. At max level you could kill an entire room by flinging them into the wall.

Biotic version of Shadow Strike that goes off like Flare... That sounds pretty Jack like, and possibly able to be shown off in her intro scene when she bum rushes the 3 YMIRs.

Shockwave, I thought was more useful for me in ME3 than in ME2 since ME2 it needed a solid surface to travel on, I believe...

I rarely used Jack, as every time I did she would get downed almost instantly, and her shockwave did jack (hehe) **** in combat. It would always miss.

That's true, but it did work on elevated enemies in ME2. Plus, it was pretty funny to sneak up on enemies and push em off the edge. Like in Kasumi's LM, those three guards stationed below Hock's home can all be bowled off the edge if you place it just right.

What difficulty level? I only play on insanity, and I don't think schockwave works on protected enemies. There are no unprotected enemies in ME2 on insanity.

I found that Jack and her shockwave had their uses in my current playthrough. Depends on the mission, and you really have to time it right... but when it worked it was fun to watch the baddies go flying.

Only time I ever use it is in her LM to catch the Vorcha out on that balcony overlooking the stairs you have to descend. They get yoink'd and you can effectively ignore them.

I only use normal as the standard. Insanity kinda doesn't count because, well, it's insanity.

Heh. I think the other difficulties don't count because, well, they aren't insanity

To be fair, Normal tends to be what everyone refers to because it is the intended experience.

I've played games pretty much all my life. Started out with NES games. My mindset is that games have to be very unforgiving and make you wanna throw your controller/keyboard against the wall multiple times in a single session.

ME never reaches that stage btw (especially not ME3, which is just a breeze even on insanity), but insanity comes the closest.

Nintendo Hard is not even funny, and would probably hurt the industry more than it helps if it was still the standard. Dark Souls can be Nintendo Hard, but lets not over do it.

Some games are truely ridiculous though, like Silver Surfer:

But for the rest I like the difficulty

I trump by mentioning Battletoads and Ninja Gaiden (NES).

Real Nintendo-Hard difficulty at its baseline would probably be a sip of cyanide to games that are typically a time-suck like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. At their current difficulty levels, they're already weighing in at possibly 50+ hours. I can't imagine how frustrating they'd be if each battle, no matter how small, was a total grind that many would have to load and reload constantly to complete.

Nintendo hard reminds me of playing Zelda II as a kid. Between that game's bullshit and the console freezing on me any time I made progress, it goes down in my history as my most frustrating and difficult gaming experience.

I'm not asking for Nintendo difficulty. What I am asking for is not finishing 90% of the missions on the hardest difficulty without dying once. Especially Vanguard was just ridiculous. As much fun as it is to see Shepard fly all over the map and combo the **** out of everything, it's way too easy. From what I recall there was 1 mission I died in a few times. And this could very easily have been done simply by making enemies a bit more smart and coming from more directions than just the front and the sides at a 45 degree angle. A few Marauders sneaking up on you from behind, or a pack of Husks coming from all sides except just the front.

A Banshee popping up from behind and just killing you. Weren't we fighting the Reapers and there forces? Shouldn't they be EVERYWHERE?

Point is, I want to be tested. I want to have to stay focused because else I'll die. And that doesn't have to fly with everybody, we can still have casual and normal and all that, just make insanity really insane.

Only thing ME2 is better in than ME3 is it's difficulty.
