I'd like to do another ME 3 playthrough, but only if I can find a way to significantly increase the difficulty of the game.

I liked the "One-shot player shields" option from the Armax Arsenal Arena. I've got no modding experience, so does anyone know whether there's a way to implement such an option for my whole squad for the singleplayer campaign? Alternatively, do you by any chance know of any already existing mods that significantly raise the difficulty?

I would also welcome suggestions that don't require the use of mods. Anyone ever tried to complete the game with no more than one point invested in any given skill or something like that?

Thanks in advance.

You can gimp your builds and weapon selection, but without mods you are pretty limited.

Simply changing the shield and healthgate duration to platinum levels will make SP harder.  Next would be to change maximum aggressive enemies.

Yes, people have gimped their skills and their weapon selection. It makes for a considerably tougher game I hear. (I don't do it myself.)

Play with inverted aiming controls from what you're used to?

I'm currently playing a new game plus using only one power and no weapons on hardcore. I might raise the difficulty to insanity

I did a playthrough using a level one pistol, no powers, the squadmates used no powers and also used a level one weapon on hardcore. To date, its the hardest playthrough I've ever done.

My hardest playthrough was No Snake's and Red Caesar's Drone Master Engineer. These days I'm all for gimping weapon/power selections as Capn mentioned above, I plan on making an Adept without using Pull and Throw, and I still want to do ME1 style classes in ME2 and 3.

I never use medigel just because it costs exp... and on lvl 60 characters it feels n00b

Try not using tactical pause if you aren't already?  Personally I wouldn't recommend using gimped builds.  This is an RPG and experimenting with builds is part of the fun =/

I would love a platinum-ish difficulty singleplayer mode.  It's surprising that there isn't a mod for this.

A person adjusts to the crap really fast.

There actually is a mod of sorts for that. In build 90 (and I assume most any other of the latest builds) of the Gibbed ME3 save editor, in the raw data tab you can select the difficulty in a drop-down menu, and I recently noticed one below Insanity which read "whatisbeyondinsanity". I only used it for a few moments, it seemed to be just Insanity but without shields. I don't know what more it changed as I turned it on in a new game at the opening stuff on Earth then reverted back.
