I think Gwen Stacy is the bes-

Whoops wrong franchise

Not even the best in that franchise. Emma/Scott is good, or Piotr/Kitty, or Thor/Sif. Granted, she's the best romance for Spiderman.

If interested, click on the link in my signature to Sam's fan group , click on the Romancing Sam thread that will have helpful tips and all her dialogue when you romance her. Also look at her thread for all her dialogue in the Citadel dlc

I was actually probably going to do that Shepard for my "welcome back" run.  I'll try and remember to give it a peek!

Anyone do a playthrough with no L.I. or Romance? If so, what was it like?

I did not too long ago. It wasn't bad. After the third dream, it was edi that alerted Shepard about attacking Chronos and depending on your playthrough, the third flashback had the squadmate I used the most show up. Samantha was the one holding the nameplate and didn't put it up

I only play as MShep. I would be more inclined for Fshep unfortunately there are no variations in dialogue choices and to truly encompass a Fshep playthrough I would have to be a female in rl.

Er.. what?

Well since you're looking for human then Miranda remains your best bet. It depends on your taste though. I personally don't like Jack but if she's your type of character then hers is apparently pretty good.

Personally though, I'd say Tali and Liara are the strongest two romances for MShep.

Don't know yet, but I've mapped out a male engineer who won't romance anyone.

Actually, most of my playthroughs have been like this, as I kinda feel like RPG romances have a bit of a ways to go before I find them fully convincing. In practice, avoiding basically means less content, which I suppose shouldn't be too surprising. When dealing with romanceable squadmates, you usually have to shut them down in conversation (which locks out further content) or just not have the conversations you know could trigger the romances.

Some other changes are noticeable as well: For instance, after the Normandy is locked down and Shepard is slumping over the locker, there's no one to pick up our hero's spirits. The character is just kinda sitting there until Joker comes through on the radio. I don't see any reason why you couldn't have had a Platonic buddy show up during these kinds of moments, but there you go.

My opinion on the romances is as follows:

Ashley - She had a lot of funny moments in ME1, like the e-mail with her sisters, and the tinfoil dress thing. In number 3, it was...fairly basic. She talked what it would be like to meet her dad, and it felt kinda realistic, but ultimately, it was boring. She suffered from a real lack of content.

Kaidan - Hands down my favorite F!Shep romance, if only because the arc is believable, Jennifer Hale does a fantastic job with the voice acting (listen to her when she talks to unconscious Kaidan in the hospital, it's hands-down some of her best work), and it has ups and downs, like, well, any relationship. A little awkward to start at first, but that's to be expected. As far as the bisexual thing, I didn't buy it, it came out of nowhere. M!Shep and Kaidan were bros, nothing more.

Liara - For a romance BioWARE seemed to shovel down our throats as the "correct" romance and obviously given the most content, it really felt flat. Mass Effect 1 gave us a naive virgin who didn't understand it (and somehow, mind-blowing virgin sex), all I really got from it was a curious alien looking at a science hamster she was experimenting on, not romance. The second game was even flatter, since it was shoved in my face so much, there was nothing to dilute it's awkwardness (like no third character talking). In the 3rd game, it felt like the non-romanced Liara got more romance content than the romanced one, particularly with M!Shep's "Li-are-a" awkward greeting on Mars. Honestly, the worst romance by far.

Miranda - It was enjoyable, but given the nature of ME2, it didn't have the closeness of the others. Attraction started purely lustfully (that's okay), but I saw the relationship between Miranda and M!Shep as someone to admire (just as she does with F!Shep), Miranda sees in Shepard the things she was built to do, but he does it better, and wasn't built for it (That she wants him to infiltrate her archives is ultimately beside the point). Romance...is odd when it comes to heroes. They felt too much like friends.

Tali - Much like Miranda, I see Tali awkwardly looking up to M!Shep much like she does to F!Shep (the whole "linking suits" with F!Shep didn't help). However, this one was saved by the dialogue. The voice acting was utterly superb, and the line "I saw your face when Chief Williams died on Virmire" was delivered expertly and made me feel for her. Well-written, but the romance as a whole was a little weird, and honestly, almost contentless in 3 (well, that's what happens when you join after half the game). Dorky singing? I liked.

Jack - Jack's development as a character was utterly ancillary to her romance arc. While the scene of her mascara running while she makes loves is endearing, honestly, screwing her made me feel weird. Not as much as Fenris (because he had no memory of what he liked), but...she doesn't get the same feeling. She needs cuddling first. Gotta say though, in 3, her dialogue during romance was fun, the Citadel gunfight foreplay was fun, and the tattoo scene in Citadel was interesting.

Garrus - I'll catch flak for this, but I don't buy Garrus romancing F!Shep. During the first game I saw utterly zero sexual attraction between them, and, like Tali, it felt more like being a positive influence. The relationship was beyond awkward and honestly, I had a hard time believing the awkwardness of it. The dance scene, however, was hilarious

Thane - While it had more of a tragic "ill person romance" cliche, it was really well done, the dialogue was interesting, and it felt so sad.

Jacob - I wish I had abs like his. The romance, cheesy, boring, and ended on a sour note. I do, however, ship Brynn/Jacob

Diana - Next!

Steve - It suffered from a real lack of content, and basically summed up to kissing on the dance floor. Still, sex on a rotating shuttle...

Samantha - Shower scene! Also suffered from lack of content, but what we did get was hot. However, the space-chess was better with non-romance

Hi people

This is my first play through of the series. Really enjoying it so far. Bioware always impresses me.

I'm new to network/gaming. Not sure about post etiquette, but i had a question related to this topic and if anyone can offer some insight id appreciate it...

In Mass effect 1 i had a relationship with Liara, I then imported my game in ME 2,(i inadvertently wound up with jack, but found her character arc really heart lifting).
In ME 3 Ive just repelled the cerberus attack on Citidel but have recieved no message from her on my terminal since, "my project," During which i asked her to tell my story.

I did receive messages from: James, Traynor, Diana, Cortez, and Jack in purgatory (I ended it)

I have read that Garrus and Ashely/Kaiden, send you messages which i haven't received either

Also, early on i told Liara i was happy to see her on board the Normandy for the first time.
I've played all the DLC up through ME2, and i have all the content for ME 3 but have kept from starting it yet.
I've followed the paragon path(about 3/4)

Thanks for your time, GoodGaming

Sony Shepard ;)

The benign neoplasm bothered you that much, though?

Lots of people consider having lots of kids the most important things in life... I wouldn't have expected much overlap with Mass Effect players, but apparently there is at least one person.

XD Ribosome

If i swung that way I'd probably agree, Kaiden reminded me too much of Carth Onasi From KnightsOfTheOldRepublic. Still have to let Kaiden be the hero on Virmire though. Legendary End

I mainly followed Liara's romance if only for my opinion that she complimented my Avatars nature.

Street urchin made battle hardened Paragon/ Naive, yet infinitely well informed(as the shadow broker in my game) and at times ruthless in her ambition.

Funny you say that Ryriena, since i've run into this hang up with liara's terminal message (previously posted) my other option at this point is no romance... but it makes sense.

To me, this game is a great parallel to star wars to the point of a precursor.

No love for the Jedi ;(

We're there for everyone or noone

Hm. I'm actually a very big Carth fan as well, though I can totally understand the POV of those who feel the opposite. I absolutely cannot disagree that the numerous initial "I can't trust anyone" conversations were extremely tedious

@ Excella I have ME 1&2 on steam n ME3 on origin. Its been over a year since I played ME1&2. I put in over 100+ hours in ME1 an like 97 hours in ME2. ME1 I loved due to great rp n traveling planet to planet exploring an killing different species like that space cow, the one that takes your credits :P Unfortunately as I play em I just lose interests to continue them again.

@Ribosome are you a girl in rl? Or you just don't care about preference? As for romances go atm I kinda lost interests. Some seem overrated an others are just disappointing even though I only had 2 romances (Ashley & Miranda).

For simplicity's sake, let's just say I sit outside of the binary. And not hetero irl so that definitely influences my favoured romances.
