My sister has a theory: Dorian Gray is Dracula. I think it's very unlikely but it would be a bombastic plot twist in the end of the season.

Brona being taken by Caliban the night she runs from Ethan. lol!! Still, her time is definitely running short, and I still suspect that she may end up on Frankenstein's "slab". Or turned into a werewolf, who the hell knows....

One thing is for certain, if I had been playing our drinking game (was still fighting my cold, when I watched the episode), I believe I would have been three sheets to the wind. Everything on the list happened at least once, and some multiple times. Hello "talking Sembene".

This was actually a mostly boring episode. Not a good first impression to my boyfriend imo, as he watched the first half of it with me while we ate dinner. :S

 

Next one should be good.

I am somewhat in agreement with this episode lacking. Lots of content, but somewhat "shallow". As for Van Helsing, I am torn.

I would have loved to see more of him, and for that reason, I am not in love with what happened to him. But, Caliban (a quick and reactive character like him) striking him down without hesitation, was fitting to his persona. And of course, it created the desired response from Victor. I just think it would have been much more impactful if we could have had more build up of a "relationship" between Van Helsing and Victor (father/son....in a sense...maybe?). Plus, just gain more insight into what Van Helsing knew about the vampires.

Fantastic writing, great direction and top performances, this episode was easily my fav of the season thus far. Eva Green is absolutely killing it (no pun intended) as the troubled Miss Ives and it was great seeing a little of the Murray Family pre Dracula\Africa.

Anyone else find those women’s asylum scenes a really difficult watch?

And what a way to end:

Vanessa: PS. Your father loves you very much and would do anything to save you. But I love you in a different way. I love you enough...to kill you.

Finally got to episode 5 and I must say it finally captured my attention Curious to see what happends next

I think I sort of understand why they did it.

I suppose it could be the same reason Dracula and Sherlock Holmes were excluded from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. They're show stealers. It'd be hard for Helsing not to to take the spotlight away from the other characters attempt to hunt down the vampire. And it is fitting for Caliban's character.

I just wish they'd gotten more mileage out of him before killing him off.

Season Finale!

I've really liked the season finale because it wrapped it up the major storylines and made bridges to what will be the focus on Season 2 (like Dracula still on loose, Ethan confirmed as a werewolf, Brona's as Calliban companion and Vanessa's struggle with the demon inside her).

The Mina climax felt a little rushed. All this talk of murdering the world for her and sir Malcolm shoots her just like that?

I quite enjoyed the season finale! It was just what was needed, after the previous episode (didn't even feel like commenting on it. ).

So glad to see Ethan "wolf-out", even if it was a brief glimpse. And knowing there is more to come on "The Master". *nods* I would agree with Dutchess though. Sir Malcolm sure made a big fuss about Mina, only to just sort of go, "Meh...Vanessa is my daughter now." *BANG!*

Glad to see I wasn't full off about Brona, though poor lass....suspect her to have a similar reaction to every "Bride of Frankenstein('s monster...ahem)". Fairly certain it will be bad.

I do like Vanessa taking a more proactive step toward deciding what to do with this gift/possession/curse (depending on viewer and her perception). And Dorian being rejected was rather fun...I can't lie.

It was probably out of mercy. She would have died soon anyway, but it would have been torture. Hours of coughing up your lungs and gasping for air. He has seen what his mother had to go through, and he spared her the same faith. Brona did not struggle when he smothered her either, which suggests that she wanted it.

Oh I agree.

 

There was self-centeredness in some ways (no character is truly benevolent in this show imo), but I still agree.

Even though the creature is evil, I hope he has a long run on the show. He is the most entertaining character in the series and I love all of his monologues. The actor playing him is killing it.
