Most of us, have - at least - attempted, if not completed, a Platinum solo by now. Throughout our (many) attempts, we have learned and experienced a lot. I believe nobody actually succeeded the first time around - if so, that's pretty darn cool - and we've all had fails. As I'm getting back into soloing after a break, I wondered about the experiences of my fellow BSNers with Platinum solos. I decided to make a little poll, giving you a number of choices. The goals is, to gather information to see what factors you believe are costing you succesful Platinum solos.

 

 

These are you choices. You can definitely pick more options, if you like...

 

(1) Random BS / Troll spawns / Praetorian Lazer non-sense;

 

(2) Your own mistakes due to overconfidence or rage;

 

(3) Refusal to start with overused, OP, cheesy kits;

 

(4) Impatience;

 

(5) Bad Objectives;

 

(6) Refusal to start with an easy map;

 

(7) Disconnections / Origin Fails;

 

(8) Sync-kills;

 

(9) Not playing to your strengths / Trying to mimic another player's style that doesn't suit you;

 

(10) Lack of focus / Not caring as much for a specific solo;

 

(11) Not enough experience or confidence;

 

(12) Tendency to use unorthodox builds / Strange loadouts;

 

(13) Specific enemy / Specific faction;

 

(14) More a teamplayer, so solos are not for me;

 

(15) Solos are a chore, and I'm too lazy to persevere;

 

(16) Other reason - namely reason (X)* - not specified here. (* Please share...)

Cos I suck at Gold/Platinum. Period :/

 

Well, except with the Geth Juggernaut.

First one I failed is bc I forgot to take an anti-Phantom weapon. Second one I failed bc a Banshee made a super sick teleport and cut me off into a sync. Third time I got it done and won't ever do another one bc it's really boring and stupid.

I got my solo done on my first try. I eventually tried a second one but I rage-missiled everything due a dumb swarmer death…then I quitted.

Sounds like the random BS option applies for your second attempt

I blame zain for all my failed plat solos.




Any kind of BS, rage, disconnect, freeze, forgot to extract, RNG suck, I suck, no frames, stupid set up (VMS Shuriken Collectors Condor etc.), my controller got excited/indoctrinated, left stick stuck, life happened.

Glacier/Cerberus wave 8, staggered into a phantom sync kill. It was my first attempt after several adult beverages. Did two successful ones after that so I'm 2 out of 3. I don't find it fun so I don't plan on doing it again.

I'd say Banshee and Phantom sync kill happens in 4/5 plat solo losses.

Not the impression given by reading any of the threads. Lvl 1 hsol with Shuriken and instant plat solo success due to 1337 5K1LLZ, no?

 

I haven't tried a bronze solo yet. I'm sure I'll faceplant on W1.

I've had more rage quits than fails tbh. If I use too many ops and gels early on or if I get a bad obj like devices or targets, I just quit.

That's pretty insane, NightSlasher! My first plat game was with a Claymore Novaguard with no equipment. I actually searched for a Silver game, but ended up on Collectors/ Jade/ Platinum. A memorable experience

Impatience. You start rushing , then > you make mistakes > you get emotional > you lose your focus... and finally you get trolled by some BS.

Platinum Solo was the one thing I always said was a pointless boring exercise.

 

And then I decided to go for and it totally spoiled the game for me for months, barely played it.  Just felt burnt out.

 

Syncs basically and BS and it's too long so I don't play safe, kitey, kitey, etc.

 

 

this was the final straw.  Haven't played Plat since not planning to either.

Pretty much what TheNightSlasher said : bad objectives, random BS, own mistakes. I also rage quit if I use too many consumables in the first waves due to bad objectives or on my own fault. About BS, I find besides (and more and more) that the PS3 controller isn't sensitive enough, basically I feel that I can't do what I want when I want to.

 

Precision : I also did my first platinum solo at first try (but it took me 80 minutes with a TGI  ).

2, 3 and 13 stand out, though I'm probably guilty of all of the above.  For my first try, I went for a Kroguard Reegar cheese, but foolishly chose Geth.  Quite a different beast from Gold with the same faction, and quite different from facing them with a good team on Platinum.  Second time was a Huntress/CSR/incendiary cheese against Reapers, but I got unlucky on objectives and a Banshee gibbed me on a device.

 

I think for my next try I'm going ultra cheap, and either using the TGI/Harrier or HM-less Geth Trooper with Acolyte/Hurricane cheese.

My problem has always been phantoms. Sometimes devices on wave 10.

Just not good enough. This game is hard, I just stick to playing kirby these days.
