So Edgar Wright is out as director, which has me confused as I thought they were already shooting, I'm sure I seen set photos. But anyway opinions? I like Edgar Wright I thought he would be a good fit. Link.

I worry about this movie. I like Ant Man as a character ( especially the Hank Pym version ) but I can't see people flocking to see a movie titled 'Ant Man'. More so than any other Marvel movie this film needs an A List cast and a A list Director to help sell it to the general public so bearing this in mind I am curious to see who will replace Edgar Wright as Director. I am not surprised to see him go although I am disappointed, he seemed to passionate about the project which is better than having someone who knows nothing about the character and does not care about doing him justice.

Ant-Man will always be synonymous with wife-beater for me. That aside, I just find his power all that interest, or anything he does all that watchable, if he's not just part of the Avengers posse.

There were better Avengers they still have the rights to for a feature film.

That's the fundamental problem with the IP, Hank Pym is a brilliantly flawed and interesting character but his powers ( get very small and get very big ) just lack that wow factor that a super hero needs. As for Scott Lang, I don't know much about him, a quick Wikipedia check says he is a reformed thief turned Super Hero but there needs to be more to him in order to carry a movie by himself.

I doubt it will be more impressive than the Affleck "Daredevil" movie

If they hype the movie it could be big , i mean how many " average people " had heard of half of the Avengers or X men before the movies started ? I am not talking about the fans of the comics or cartoons but " average people " who have been introduced and now become fans of to these types of movies .

tbf this is a bit like Iron Man, none of the general movie going audience knew who Iron Man was, and if they did all they knew about him was that he was a b list comic book hero, but they got the right director, Actor and marketed it right and everyone loved it.

But Iroman man does cool stuff. Even assuming they go with the version that can increase and decrease his size, his powers are still unbelievably lame.

I would be interested in this movie if it turned out to be a superhero spoof like the Tick however if this is to be at least a somewhat serious superhero flick like the previous Marvel and Avenger movies even among superheroes where absurd costume and hero themes are the norm "Ant-Man" just sounds too implausibly stupid to take seriously and that is quite a feat considering that the genre contains a man who based his whole crime fighting persona after a bat. Perhaps Ant-Man will be released and to everyone's surprise will actually be good but I can't really say that the name "Ant-Man" inspires all that much confidence.

Yeah but the Avengers and X-men had the advantage of both better movie names (provided you had never heard of any of these movies before which would you rather see based on name alone? X-men or the Avengers? Or Ant-Man?) and actually featuring heroes with powers that are kind of cool like retractable claws and regeneration, the ability to shoot lasers from ones eyes or even a power suit with the ability of flight, what can Ant-Man do? Shrink? What good will that do? I suppose at least he also has the ability to grow large which puts him one notch above the Atom (the most useless superhero in a universe that contains Aquaman) however still it is a pretty lame power.

It depends on the story they want to tell, if you look at the latest Captain America there was nothing in that film that a normal hero could not have done, it was just a spy film with Captain America you could have stuck Hawkeye in there and nothing would have been different.

On another note I thought Aquaman is supposed to be awesome now.

I don't doubt Marvel's ability to tell an awesome Ant Man story, I'm just concerned about how many people will go and see it. The smart thing to do would have been to introduce him in the second Avengers movie, give him a very important supporting role similar to what Banner/Hulk had in the first Avengers movie, that way you are introducing film goers to the character on the sly and then when his solo film comes out more people will know about him.

I think he is character they works better in an ensemble than going solo.

To be honest it just feels like the theatre is getting flooded with super-hero movies thanks to Disney, Fox, and Sony.  We are getting to the point where there will be at least one or two at any given time in the year and with those companies so focused on creating a linked universe meaning you have to watch each one, even if you don't want to, in order to see setups for future movies it just feels overdone.

Hell some movies are starting to be called extended trailers for the two or three movies they will be spinning out of it.

To be honest I don't really know where the Aquaman hate comes from, just added it for dramatic flair, but now you mention it I am curious as to how Aquaman initially got his reputation as the most useless hero in the DC comics universe, I mean the ability to telepathically talk to and control sea creatures, breathe underwater and super strength seem incredibly useful, I never read the comics though so is there something I am missing?

I don't read DC comics so much like Maiden Crowe I have no idea where all the Aquaman hate comes from. What little I know about the character came from the Young Justice cartoon and he seemed pretty okay there, I especially liked his sidekick Aqua Lad - Kaldur who I thought was awesome.

Pym Particles also allow Ant man to grow (hence Giant man being one of Hanks 10000000th superhero name) and the helmet he wears gives him control over local insect life, which can ruin your day hardcore if the right person was in control.

Also, can we stop dissing Aquaman? He's the king of the seas, meaning he owns 70% of the world, he's super strong, a skilled warrior, and his control of sea life extends to CTHULHU!
The Superfriends was a terrible show that did no justice to any character, can we stop judging him by it?
