Stuck between adept & doing another soldier run. Same as Trilogy Adept thread but as a soldier who would be best to bring around thru whole trilogy? And what bonus powers you suggest? My first ever playthrough of the trilogy I just brought along whoever I wanted, in ME2 chose the widow sniper w/ heightened AR but this time plan on choosing the Revenant instead. Also in ME3 does weapon weight matter? My first run I didn't pay attention an barely used powers as I equipped every weapon possible but for my second run I equipped only the typhoon & geth plasma shotgun an was able to time when I can use my powers. This time I plan on using AR extensively. Its my favorite power to use.

I am running a little short on time, so I will keep this brief.
In ME3, you probably want to keep your weapon weight no lower than +100%. You will start to feel the cooldown penalties after that. Claymore V will give you a +98% weapon weight unless you take the weight capacity bonus at rank 6 in Combat Mastery. but most of the best weapons (including DLC) are much lighter than that so you should have no problem. You typically do not need more than one weapon anyway.
in ME2, Neural Shock, Stasis, and Slam are considered the best 1-point bonus powers. As a Soldier, you do not need more than 1 point in your bonus power unless you choose to not put points into Cryo Ammo.
In ME1, you will need someone to open crates. Tali, Kaidan, or Garrus will be a required squadmate. Exception would be if you take Decryption and put points into Liara's Electronics.

^ What Red said.
ME1 - I prefer Tali / Liara. Starting from Level 1, you usually can have enough XP to max both Electronics and Decryption on Tali by the time you first leave the Citadel (you need to use Kaidan on Eden Prime, and that isn't always practical, but it is possible). Usually I end up transitioning to Garrus from Tali, but that is just because I like Garrus. Tali is overall a little better early game (especially if you max Electronics that soon). You can sort of do the same with Garrus, but then he has mediocre weapon damage. Later with better armor, he does most all of what Tali does, but can run Sniper Rifles, which is nice on some maps (and nice because of good weapon force). I don't care to invest in Shotguns on Tali any longer, mainly because I want to max out her Tech skills, and Marksman is better for DPS. I did an LP of ME1 w/ Soldier (with the totally not showy title of "The Legendary Mass Effect Strategy Guide). But for cliff notes, I didn't invest in the bonus power, tried to get Immunity and Marksman up fairly early, and Unity before the Battlemaster on Therum.
ME2 - Yeah the one pt wonder powers are good. Usually I don't like any bonus on Soldier in ME2, just like in ME1. So I take AP ammo and just use it early until it is replaced. Then I might spec out of it to give myself a point somewhere else. Alternatively, you can go with Reave, which plays a bit different and is a bit of an Adrenaline Rush substitute. It works with most soldier styles, but might be better than ARush in some ways for a Claymore Soldier. I did a run like that, although I wasn't as proficient with the Claymore at that time as I probably would be if I tried it again. For fun though, I like just playing straight vanilla soldier with Inferno Ammo and the Revenant.
I alternate between Squad Disruptor and Squad Cryo depending on the mission (SDA for most merc missions which is basically the majority of the recruitment and side missions, as well as Geth missions; SCA for Blood Pack, Collector, Tuchanka and melee enemy missions). I prefer Miranda / Garrus as the team. But I always prefer them. ![]()
ME3 - If you want to use Adrenaline Rush a lot, you need to keep the weight reasonable. The big change is probably that you should only run one or two guns on Soldier. Weapon Master at the last rank of Combat Mastery improves your damage fairly substantially over the weight capacity evolution. If you plan to mainly use Concussive Shot or a bonus power, you can get away with a little heavier loadout. For a bonus power, I like Proximity Mine for the Damage Taken debuff. Alternatively, I would also recommend Inferno Grenades (with Incendiary Explosive Burst ammo you will not have to worry about enemy armor). Energy Drain is also good if you like getting shields and more DR back for every Adrenaline Rush cycle. You can go Marksman as well, but really only if you want to outright replace Adrenaline Rush. Squad is whomever, but I prefer Liara / Garrus, or Ash / Garrus.

About ME1: Crates aren't such a big deal as people tend to say. 99% of the things you find is trash, and you'll end up being ridiculously rich anyway. The only time when it might be really useful is once you start finding rank IV gear (around level 20 or so), in order to buy spectre weapons ASAP. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about it and wouldn't base my squadmates choices on that. The only one I'd really recommend is Liara, especially in the higher difficulties, as she can make fights quicker (and perhaps rely on Kaidan with maxed Lift until you recruit her). The rest of the squadmates have their own strengths, but I don't find any of them particularly game-changing, so go with the one you like the most. Either way, the game can be completed with any team combination.
Some decent bonus powers for ME1 soldiers (in no particular order) are: Warp, Lift, Singularity, or Decryption if you do as RC suggests (but in that case you may as well consider an infiltrator). I personally tend to max both pistols and ARs and adjust their ammo so I can use one for organics and the other for synthetics. Pistols are better, but I'm lazy and I find that approach more convenient for my tastes.
I've never felt the need for more than two weapons (sometimes just one) in ME3, so I'd just stick to the two I use the most and have a better cooldown.

Well, as it happens, I'm considering going through trilogy with soldier on my next PT as well, so I'm just going to mooch this topic for myself and hope OP won't be too angry with me because of it.
The things is, I have a pretty good idea of how to play her through first and second game. What I'm wondering is... how viable is a sans AR build in the third game? I want to run around with as many heavy weapons as possible(I'm thinking Claymore/GPS, Widow, Typhoon and maybe Executioner as well), so yeah... cooldown will be kinda of a non-issue. Of all the powers at her disposal, I'm thinking of dropping AR.
I know it's probably not optimal. Scratch that, I know it's not optimal. But I want to try it. Will Insanity give me many problems with this build?
Or, to put it differently, what kind of spec would be optimal for a soldier who intends to chug around as much weaponry as possible and doesn't care about her cooldown times?

Well, IIRC, in ME3 you can max out all your abilities but one, so there's your answer. Just ignore the weight capacity evolution at rank 6 of combat mastery if you're going to be at -200% anyway, and the rest should be the same as a normal soldier.
If you're willing to switch classes between games, sentinels and, to a lesser extent, adepts, might be better suited for that playstyle, in the sense that you can still use an active power (throw) regardless of your weapons' weight.
