New Kai Leng (looking for texmodders again to help me)

So I hate Kai Leng, He is a played out Kung Fu stereotype.  So i thought maybe I could fix this, here is what I have done so far.

As you can see I used the shepaloo head, frankly I though that would have been a cool twist in the game if shepard had to face a clone of himself made by Cerberus, which they learned how to do by restoring him to life.  Just think of the possablities, What if some of the troops they were fighting were clones.  It would have added a personal stake in taking down the main Cerb base.  Also would have opened up some mistrust with Miranda, and upset Ashley even more.  Also would have Shepard questioning himself about what he really is. 

 

But instead we got the done to death Space Kung Fu Master.  

 

Any-who I also hated the dumb tux tales on the back of the armor, they serve no purpose and look dumb so I tried to change that. 

 

So at this point I want to finish this armor and release it.  It can be used to update the Bonus armor as well, but the rub is that once again I have nether the skill or the graphics program to do a good job.

 

The good news is it is not a very big job, just fixing the legs.  In the picture I pointed with blue lines to what I think should change and red for what I would like to keep the same, but if someone is willing to take on the challenge it is really up to them.  Just make it fit the rest of the armor.  

 

Anyway I am hoping I will get someone this time, I have two other modding projects that need better mod artist then me and I still haven't gotten any volunteers.  I would love to release this armor finished with some help.

I've done a retexture for Kai Leng's original armor (and the armax), might be a good idea to inc those textures together with fitting retexture of the new parts.

How'd you wrap that? Send me a message with the diff and a psk (so i can preview the texture in 3ds) if you don't mind. Obviously have some other stuff going on as well. (don't know if you're still pursuing the Ash Heavy Phoenix with the recolour coming out?) Anyways message me if you want we shall chat.

I am looking forward to the Ash Heavy Phoenix, but I don't want to pressure you or whatever.  I will be happy to finish the mod when you finish the texture, including the selection screen. 

 

One of my problems is I am using Corel Draw to do all my graphic stuff so it really puts me at a disadvantage.

Ok i'll do those for you then, time to finish some stuff before i take even more on beyond these :)
This looks neat though, interesting armor design this way.

Really no rush.  Please only do it if you want to.  If you are doing the Ashley armor for my benefit than don't worry about it.  I actually loved how you changed the existing armor in the game to match the colors.  I would probably just use that anyway.

If it were possible to simply remove the tux tails from the armor we win in Citadel DLC, I'd be a very happy man.

I tried that first but there is really nothing behind the tails.  When it is finished I will release a version you can replace the tails version with.

It's not necessary but there's some unallocated space around the upper leg that, if you'd rotate and upscale the element, would give us a bigger surface to work with. I've messed about a bit rotating and upscaling it in photoshop (I could send you this version if you'd like, example below) but I'd need the UV remapped for that area on the mesh to correspond.

I could do it but I reckon it's best left to you as it's your mesh. If you could do that, i'll start on the retexturing of the upper leg once you sent me a mesh with updated UV. If you'd rather not at all, understandable, I'll just start work using current wrap.

One other thing, I've spotted some rogue vertices around the knees:

Ottemis feel free to fix it (unless you don't want the extra work then I will give it a shot), you are going to be better at it then me.  This was the first time I ever even attempted to mess with the maps.  Plus I think it would be easier for you as you are doing the texture move things around if it works better I don't care.  Feel free to delete the extra verts too, I see this as a co-author project now and proud to be working with you.

 

My vision is to make the places I pointed the blue to look like the Dark Kevlar on the arms, and eliminate the silver stuff behind the knee-guards and the wrinkles back of the knees (I see the knees as the felt material or whatever that is on the non-armor parts), the only other thing would be to make the black thing on the knee's between knee guards match the orange on the elbows. I would let the red pointers stay the same.  Maybe a cod piece to match the original armor but if that is too difficult to worry about it.  Even after all that if you think you have something better go for it I trust your Instincts.  Do whatever you would like.

Ok, i shall give it a whirl! I could actually grab the bottom leg parts from the original retexture so those are done atm.

I threw out all the excess IDs and rewrapped the legs. I assume you hadn't looked into weighting this yet yes? Not tried putting it ingame yet?

No, I was going to delete all the bones and skinwrap it, via your tutorial.

Ok cool, do you want me to throw this mesh up so you can mess around with that?

I removed head / helmet from the project you sent over, texture wrap for the body slightly adjusted and it's just one mat ID now for the body diff now.

Nah still working on the textures but with the wrap final I can throw the mesh up so you can see about prepping it for ingame if you'd like.

I know it's dark but here's the progress for today, i'm heading to bed now but will do the orangy/brown stuff tomorrow.

Still a lot of smaller elements to tackle and shading/highlights.

@Bomma: I'm not sure if the yellow plate on the upper legs isn't too heavy in comparison with the rest of the armor, there aren't any large chunks of it anywhere else. I was thinking maybe make it predominantly grey but then keep that section in the bottom orange. What do you think?

How about making it a little darker like the orange on the bicepts.  That is kinda what I was going for.  But do what you want I trust you.

I could but that material is used as an underweave of sorts rather than a base material in the rest of the armor, that's why i stuck it inbetween his legs hah.
