Lancel for my Vanguard, Harrier for the money-making machin....errr, Geth Juggernaut (which I couldn't care less about his power recharge time).
Sorry, but I've tried both and the Harrier wins, hands down. Put on it a High Velocity Barrel and you have the ultimate multipurpose gun. Add the magazine upgrade and you almost double it's capacity.
Since I began to use it, I haven't stopped getting 50-75 Machinegun kill bonuses (and headshot bonuses) ![]()

Your ignorance is overwhelming.
Lancer >= Harrier. On platinum at least.
If you can't hold your right thumbstick down to compensate for the Lancer's recoil.... well, you suck. (All UR ARs are Platinum viable, just L2P).
I love how you jump to the conclusion that I simply must not be able to use the Lancer. Yeah.. it's so hard to use an unlimited ammo machine gun.. especially on lolPlatinum where the enemies are as big as a house and the Lancer's subpar accuracy woes are lessened.

Had a few goes with the Harrier yesterday, and this became clear. It's either really, or really bad. The mid point for this gun is very small. Like if you don't use top consumables, setup, and play with pretty good enough pugs in the dps area, you're going to suffer.
I had level 2 consumables on (fire ammo/amp) & Assault Rifle Amp for for Human Sol set for Grenade (yeah, in my haste to set everyone in this class for 6/6/6/6/6, I forgot War Fighter Amp). The level, Reactor VS Reapers. It went pretty well. Reaper clumps were always pretty close to a section, and dps was good enough that we could all hold our ground at one of various points on the map which thankfully was also near an ammo box. Once I ran out of ammo you moments before killing the Brute. I cringe my teeth like a Krogan would when yelling "I'm out of Clips!!!!!" Then I remembered I had two nades. Tossed them, it killed the Brute, and I happily run to the ammo box. ![]()
The next game was on Giant against Cerberus. Same setup except I wanted more nades is I was going to be using all my clip packs to I went for Grenade Capacity instead of War Fighter). My team didn't fully carry over and/or they switched to weaker dps or something, I noticed? Cause with everybody ponding on an Atlas, I had to leave before I could see it explode to get more ammo from a full clip pack, lol. Guess I this is were I should say I should of went for the extra 20% dmg in Adren Rush instead of Hardening? Whatever. But lame stuff like that kept happening throughout that whole match. Leading me to an initial conclusion to what I wrote in the first paragraph.
Guess I'll say one good thing about the Lancer. Yes, it may have less ammo. But instead running to an ammo box before I can see an Atlas explode, I can much quicker wait while it recharges same amount of Cerberus Harrier total worth of Ammo all in on Lancer Clip and continue one. That sounds pretty freaking sweet to me right there. Cause yes, while the Lancer may be a bit less in dps, all it's ammo is in one clip.
It sucks compared to the Harrier, but more importantly.. it is dominated in its niche in every department by the Collector SMG. The Lancer didn't even need introduced bc the CSMG already did the same job and did it better.
Hmm, maybe I should of made the topic "I don't get why folks prefer the Collector SMG over the Lancer?" Instead? That's another gun I want maxed in second place with the Particle Rifle (lol, all Charge weapons I want maxed first), but I still prefer the Lancer over the CSMG, easy. So, megabeast, since you have all the right answers, do enlighten me on why it's better?

IMO Harrier is much better than the Lancer, even on plat.
I never run out of ammo with it, unless I'm playing on Condor.
It just shreds enemies so much faster, and the Lancer is slightly too inaccurate for my liking.

CSMG is better bc:
CSMG has almost no recoil and IMO better accuracy, making it a superior headshot weapon
CSMG has +50% damage vs armor, making it a very effective lightweight boss killer
CSMG is lighter, if only by a little bit
When you stop firing, the CSMG begins to recharge right away, Lancer waits for a second
Lancer wins in the looks and sound department hands down.. but in the performance catagory, CSMG spanks it.
On a personal note.. I also dislike the Lancer bc Assault Rifle amp III's are my most valued consumable.. and I would much rather use them on a gun that murders faces hardcore like the Harrier, PPR, Typhoon.. than trying to suppliment the crappy damage output of the Lancer. Meanwhile.. no matter how many times I use SMGs, my Rail Amp III supply forever stays at 255.

Kidding you. i can't compare since I have never unlocked the Lancer.
PS Good game earlier this evening.
I was wondering who the crap that was? Thinking "Is this a BSNer?" Well, I took care of that regardless this morning before posting here. Let's play some more. ![]()
Plus you seen me do one of the tests for the Harrier too (w/ Human Sol).

This. Let me say that the CSMG has pretty much razor like accuracy while the Lancer hasn't got good accuracy at all, and this is quite a big deal.
Also, the last one is an extremely big deal, since you mostly want to use these guns on casters.

I may agree with everything you say, but that statement is not believable. Never? Even faced with 2 banshees and a brute? Or 2 primes? We are talking about a gun that takes 3 seconds to empty and has at most about 3 clips spare. it's a good gun, but the shooting time is definitely limited.

Well, it depends on which kit you're using it on. On a Hsol, it takes much more than two primes to make me run out of ammo. But yeah, I run out of ammo even on him, eventually. Thermal packs, secondary, and smart ammo box trips do the trick even on Condor, on gold.

Technically Lancer isn't any less accurate than CSMG, but the recoil makes it very difficult to aim and keep on target. It's not a prolem at close range, but I'm man enough to admit that from a medium distance I'm vastly more effective at scoring headshots with CSMG - unless using stability mod/gear/consumables.
CSMG is still superior in most situations, of course.

Good thing I have these amazing things called thermal clip packs, and I usually have 6-9 of them

Hey guys, I'm not exactly new to MP but I don't play all that regularly either. What I have taken from this thread is that I need to give the Collector SMG another go as it is the only one of the guns discussed which I have got. However, I have never gotten on with it before. I went on a youtube hunt for tips on how to use it and came across Jumpin's sarcastic Fun With Guns vid and I never really gave it a chance after that.
So thanks for this ladies and gents.

It's not worth it until it hits level 7-8.. simply bc the mag is really small.

I'm not the one making the claim. The claim was "never" run out of ammo. Not "hardly ever", "infrequently", or "it can be managed by being smart".
It was "never."

Lancer has less bullet spread than the CSMG so if you claim that you can't headshot at more than melee range with it then either you can't control the recoil or you can't headshot at more than melee range with CSMG.
I don't know what all the fuss is over CSMG. It is good as an anti-armor sidearm. It is solidly mediocre as a primary.

I actually like the Harrier, especially on the Batsol, but it does get unreasonable when the Harrier love goes to the extent of denying that its drawbacks even exist. Never run out of ammo, pfffffft.

I only have lancer 1 but harrier 9 (RNG is mocking me), but I still enjoy the lancer more. Although IMO lancer needs a stability mod/gear on non-turians

I'm a new Harrier fan, but I'm not gonna deny that ammo is an issue (and that having in mind I use the thermal clip mod).
Still, I'm not gonna throw it's accuracy, low recoil and damage just for that. And there's also an universal solution for the ammo problem: headshots.

I've heard more ridiculous baby names than Lance. In fact, I find it pretty nice...
I mean, some idiotic parents named their baby "Dovakhiin"...and yep, I'm not kidding.
