I haven't planned to the extent that you have OP, but i do have my first inquisitor pretty much set, atleast the basics.

I'm planning on doing a human male warrior first. Might sound boring to some, but that's pretty much always what i go with first.

Specialization will most likely be champion, but i think i'll need to know more about the 3 different ones first.

Ideal companions probably Varric, Cassandra, and depending on how i end up feeling about her, Vivienne. I wanna use Iron Bull alot too. Maybe sometimes go full warrior party with Cassandra Iron Bull and the Grey Warden. What an asskicking team that would be :D

Romance: Cassandra. This is honestly the only thing that's set 100 % in my mind i think, lol. I have a weakness for short black hair on girls.

The only thing that would make me kind of conflicted about this is if Leliana turns out to be romanceable, but i highly doubt that, unfortunately.

Cassandra it is then, not that i mind in the slightest

Forgot to add personality. Hmmm, will most likely make decisions based on what i personally would do. Which normally is dangerously close to being a goody two shoes lol. Very good morals. Serious when it comes to business, but can be very playful and humorous. Hates slavers more than anything. Extremely honorable. Seriously, like Ned Stark levels. Hopefully it won't get me killed

Haha what can I say, I'm a planner! And a sucker for these role playing experiences. I pretty do this with all expansive RPG games with limitless replay value.

Your personality sounds pretty much exactly as mine, Dragon Age wise I mean.

That doesn't sound boring at all. I also plan on doing a human warrior who romances Cassandra. They'll be quite the power couple :)

I think its fun. :P Planning out characters its fun and a way to pass the time and come up with ideas on how you are going to create a character, and since the game is so far off....might as well, again pass the time.  I know these plans are unlikely to survive the first gun shot...or however the old sod goes, but meh, it works for me.  Especially since I know what I like.  And on top of it I am an aspiring writer, and one of the reasons I love RPGs so much is it lets you create a character within a certain template.  This is practice, and some of these ideas may make it into my own works.

But nevertheless I have 3 main Inquisitors planned so far.  May be the only 3 I do but you never know. :P

1.

Human/ Male/ Mage

Specialization: Knight Enchanter

Personality: A pro Chantry Mage loosly based on Obi Wan but is becoming more and more disillusioned with the Circles with each passing day.  Deflects tense situations which sarcasm and some slight humor, but is pretty serious a lot of the time to deal with the situations before him.  He walks a fine line between Order and Chaos as he believes in the Chantry Theaodisian Governance and law and order but often bucks against those insitutions, and becomes increasingly convinced they need serious reforms throughout the game.  Is politicially astute and knows how to play 'the game' (no not that game) but despises politics deep down.

Background: A mage from the Nevarra who was called in by Knight Commander Gregoir just after the events in Kirkwall to look into forming a new special groups of mages who are detecated to hunting down Maelificar and Abominations.  The goal would be to eventually integrate mages into society and let society know that not all mages are evil.  Sadly the Mage Templar War and Inquisition interfered with these intentions.

Ideal Party: Given his personality he is going to be more of an 'order' party, he will tolerate the people in his squad who is not part of the Chantry, but he prefers Cassandra, Varric, and Viv.

Romance: Cassandra

Female/ Human/ Rogue/ Bow

Specialization: Assassin

Personality: In way over her head.  She has never had responsibility really for anyone other then herself.  Has been a loner most of her life and relying on her own talents, wits, bow skills, and occasionally her looks to get by and blend in.  Does not trust most of the authority figures in Thedas even though, in theory, she has no real problem with the Institutions themselves.  Is borderline atheistic however.  Has a quick wit and a sollid sense of humor, despite herself.  Is not confident in her abilities as a leader however and relies on the other members of the Inquisition (especially Cassandra) for support and advice.  Asking questions like: How could the Maker chose me?  Why did I survive? Am I worthy and capable of leading the Inquisition.  However, it will be her struggle in the game to grow into the role, accept it, and become a good leader of the Inquisition.

Background:  Orphaned at a young age when her mother died in prison for owing too much money to the wrong people she was set adrift on the streets of Orlais without any other family and any other support structure around her.  Drifting among one Thieves guild to another, one Assassin's cell to another, and joining the occasional hunting party.  Eventually found it better to just go it alone and ply her skills purely how she saw fit to survive.

Ideal Party:  She will likely be the 'chaos' party, those who do not get along with the Chantry or their own people's laws (with one obvious exception).  So possibly going to be Varric, Cassandra/ Iron Bull and Dorian (if the rumors are right about him).

Rommance: Cassandra (my first Lesbian :P if Cassandra swings that way that is ;) ) or Dorian (again depending on what I have heard on the rumors about him).

Female/ Qunari/ Warrior

Specialization: Likely Reaver.

Personality: About as untypically Qunari/ Tal-Vashoth as one can possibly be.  Has an infectious smile/ sense of humor.  Into politics and economics.  Is very self possessing and confident of herself as an individual and in her position of the world, even as that of the Inquisitor.  Very Warm, very friendly, hard not to like her ( I hope :P )  Only thing is she is very fierce and aggressive in combat, fighting very hard and fast in order to kill whatever is in her way and does not stop till they are, or they relent (if they do).

Background: None really planned yet.

Ideal Party: Likely Solas, Cassandra/ Iron Bull, and then most likely the Grey Warden...or Sera.

Romance: Hoping Iron Bull but I suspect their personalities may clash.  Otherwise...Solas I guess.  Or the Grey Warden, IDK :P

Sure. What's the downside of winging it the first time, and then doing subsequent playthroughs depending on what looks interesting after the first playthrough?

Or rather, what's the upside of planning before seeing the game?

There is no downside or upside to any of these.  It simply comes down to preference.  Why would you question how or why someone goes about preparing for a video game?

I know exactly what you mean man! I feel the same way about planning these. Really helps me get immersed and expands my creativity. I too am an aspiring "writer" of sorts (studying history, going to be doing a fair bit of writing/publishing myself), so I can relate. Good luck to you and your writings.

Also, your Human Male Mage sounds remarkably similar to mine in terms of personality, very cool!

Rift Mage is the only specialization I'm completely sold on... it just sounds so... Inquisitory.

Rift is very mysterious and sounds super powerful to me, but I'm still fuzzy on what it actually is. I assume it has something to do with the manipulation of the earth in some way, so it could be similar to Force Magic from DA:2 and even include some kind of weather components like thunder/lightening/blizzards/acid-rain/etc. Sounds like a heavily offensive magic specialization, whereas Knight Enchanter is more about defense (sustained abilities probably) and Necromage is...self explanatory.

Can't wait to more details on the class. On all the classes, actually. Though I have a pretty good idea about every other class in the game, Rift is the only one I'm not sure about.

WEll on replaying DA 2 I am doing it with a more serious mage and more of a warrior monk type.  But that is kind of boring so characters seem to need a developed sense of humor for me, and he has one...a small one.  So yeah, I think a funny sarcastic mage might be really fun to play next time.  Like: "Don't worry Empiress Celene, Demon's are our specialty."

Your interpretation of "rift" is interesting, but very different from mine!

I'm hoping it has something to do with the Fade. Such as "teleporting" by moving through rifts in the Fade.

I agree! A bit a humor is always nice. I played my main characters (Warden and Hawke) both as mages and knew when to stand up and be vigilant, but also when humor is necessary/applicable.

Yes I've thought about that concept too. Maybe it'll be hybrid of our interpretations haha. I hope you're more correct than I am, my interpretation sounds like something that can be achieved in a standard magic skill tree. Specializations should be truly unique and unconventional.

My first Hawke did not have a regulatory Valve.  I found myself appologizing for her once, even though no one in the game can hear me obviously, :P It was just so bad I am just like 'sorry, she can't help it.'.

I'm probably gonna end up playing qunari to death, and they're all probably gonna end up being overgrown man-children

Warrior = uses sword for fork and shield as a plate

Mage = roasts marshmellows while they're floating in midair

Rogue = Wears a lampshade

And what about other things like physical attributes, age range, posture, etc, come on guys lets get creative. :P

I also was giving this manner some thought and in case I/ my Mage Inquisitor does not like Viv then perhaps a reasonable substitute would be the Grey Warden.

I'm all about the role playing and I can't wait. I love to plan and create these scenarios in my head in preparation for the game. The game's coming out the day after my birthday so it's like a nice gesture from Bioware to me :)

I did this. Had a great City Elf all planned out in great detail. Then Bioware said all elves will be Dalish, thus making all that work a waste of time and my feelings crushed.

I'm sure you'll enjoy playing as Dalish elves as well! I think they made all Elves dalish because it fits better into the integral story of why the Inquisitor was at the conference when the veil tears. The Dalish are probably there on behalf representing their Keepers, who are mages. This is were the Inquisitor comes in, ya know before they become the Inquisitor.

I really can't think of a reason why a City Elf would be there...unless as a servant. Which is lame and underwhelming.

The Dalish have no reason to go to a Chantry-Mage peace conference. Meanwhile City Elves can be mages or in the ranks of the Chantry, like a still-loyal Templar.

The only Dalish I can enjoy is a Dalish who rebels against the Dalish policies.
