The Dalish have no reason to go to a Chantry-Mage peace conference. Meanwhile City Elves can be mages or in the ranks of the Chantry, like a still-loyal Templar.

The only Dalish I can enjoy is a Dalish who rebels against the Dalish policies.

But city elves are no longer classified as such when the join the circle. They are just elves part of whatever circle in whatever region. What would a city elf commoner be doing at the conference?

In regards to the Dalish, according to DA:2 conversations with Merrill, the chantry and templars know about Dalish mages, and has tolerated their existance so long as they keep a distance from cities. The parameters have changed, and now the templars won't tolerate any unchecked mages, Dalish included. The Dalish are probably at the conference to make sure a full scale hunt doesn't ensue between the templars and dalish keepers/firsts.

Like I said the Chantry, which is one of the two groups at the summit, have elves in their ranks.

The Dalish I almost bet you will just be caught in the blast radius of the Breach. Same for the Dwarf, Qunari, and maybe even Human Inquisitor.

I've never seen any Elven official as part of the Chantry. I can only see them as refugees or servants within. We'll see.

I honestly doubt the Dalish will just be caught within the blast radius and that's how the Inquisitor gets involved. You could be right, but I doubt it. I think to some extent the Dalish will be at the conference.

Each of the potential choices (race wise) for the Inquisitor can be explained as to why they're at the conference. We'll see when it comes around, but they can inferred.

A dwarven Inquisitor could be present at the conference regarding issues between the Chantry and the Lyrium trade. The Inquisitor can be an investor/distributor.

A Qunari Inquisitor could be there as hired muscle to some prominent figure, we know the Qunari Inquisitor isn't and never was part of the Qun. What else would they possibly be doing with their lives?

The Templar Evangeline in Asunder was almost written to be an elf.

See, having them there is what I'm afraid of. For example, the Qunari being hired muscle. That's like saying "Your character has to be a mercenary." Or for Dwarves "Your Dwarf has to be part of the Lyrium trade." I'd hate for our backstories to be restricted like that.

Same here, but it's not as if we're going to have an intuitive origin story for each race like we did in Origins. It would be awesome if we did, but I doubt it'll be the case. Our background will probably only account for the first hour of the game, then we'll become the mighty Inquisitor!

Besides the backgrounds can serve as a jumping off point.  There are a million ways to do a 'lyrium dwarf'  he can hate the role, he can love the role, he can be a dreamer for greater things.  Etc, etc, etc.

I'm sure you'll enjoy playing as Dalish elves as well! I think they made all Elves dalish because it fits better into the integral story of why the Inquisitor was at the conference when the veil tears. The Dalish are probably there on behalf representing their Keepers, who are mages. This is were the Inquisitor comes in, ya know before they become the Inquisitor.

I really can't think of a reason why a City Elf would be there...unless as a servant. Which is lame and underwhelming.

The inquisitor was at the conference? I thought that was just where the big tear started?

I mean if it killed thousands it likely expanded way beyond where the conference was, and could cover crowded areas.

That's what I think. While maybe not crowded areas considering the conference took place in a remote, mountainous region, the Breach effect had to have covered several miles.

Ah, it's awesome Inquisition is coming out soon after your birthday! I remember when Dragon Age 2 came out in my country - on a day no other than my birthday!

OT: I definitely plan to have at least one character of every race and class. Here is what I have planned for my first characters:

"Canon"/First playthrough
A male Elven Mage. I'm really happy we get to be Dalish! If I can, I'll be blood Mage with nature themes. Think of Merrill in Dragon Age 2 - I modded Origins to play a Dalish Mage, and it was a blast. Still not sure if I should have it as my canon Warden, since it doesn't really follow the core game, and I don't want to screw up Inquisition. Anyways, he'll probably be a nice guy, if a bit arrogant about blood magic and a bit wary of Humans. I ship him with Solas already.

Second Playthrough
A female Dwarf rogue. I loved playing my archer in Origins, and it'll be so cool to be one again! Not sure about anything other than the race/gender/class, but it's a fun idea I'll look forward to after my first playthrough, when I have a better grasp of the game. If Cullen is available to females only, this character will climb him like a christmas tree.

Aside from those two, I don't really have many plans. I'll probably have an evil warrior playthrough, doing all of the jerky stuff I was afraid to do in my first two playthroughs. That's how I've rolled in the past two games.

That I do, and I could plan even more in the future. Trust me, you don't wanna know how many DA:O or Mass Effect playthroughs I have... ;)

It's all about being immersed and invested. I love these role playing games so much potential for replay value.

I like to know how many playthroughs you've done, especially for ME. If you're curious how many playthroughs I've done, look on my profile.

I've mostly got ideas for what kind of playthroughs I'd like to try, so none of these are set in stone.

Female Qunari Mage

Spec: Knight Enchanter

Personality: Ruthless, snarky, aloof, secretly a little sentimental, curious about other cultures, restrained about magic

Team: Dorian, Vivienne, Sera

Romance: Vivienne/Scribbles

Male Dalish Rogue

Spec: Tempest

Personality: Quirky, friendly, playful and mischevious, not that serious about Dalish culture, adventurous

Team: Dorian, Cassandra, Cole

Romance: Dorian

Female Dalish Mage

Spec: Rift Mage

Personality: Proud, sly, cunning, fascinated by magic and history, sharp-tongued, wary of humans

Team: Beardy Warden, Solas, Sera

Romance: Sera/Solas

Female Dwarf Rogue

Spec: Artificer

Personality: Lewd, disrespectful, crafty, opportunistic, curious about the Fade

Team: Iron Bull, Cole, Solas

Romance: Solas/Sera

Female Human Warrior

Spec: Templar

Personality: Objective, confident, calm, reserved, stoic, strait-laced

Team: Cassandra, Vivienne, Varric

Romance: Cullen

Canon Playthrough

Human/Male/Mage/Knight Enchanter

Claims to have received commands from the Maker during the Fade Tear event. Stages a violent crusade with the forces of the Inquisition to reform the Chantry, and the various kingdoms of Thedas in order to "redeem" its people.

My first 3 playthroughs will probably all be mages so I can experience all the different specs, then try a rogue artificier if the fatigue hasn't set in yet.

You do bring up a good point for fatigue. :P  That is why I have three play throughs planned out because I figure that might be it for me for a while and then hopefully by that time ME 4 will be out or coming out so I can start planning that out.  :P

Female Qunari Mage

Specialization: Rift Mage

Companions: Always an even W/R/M team, probably Sera, Bull and Dorian most consistently.

Personality: Puts up with discrimination from both the mage and Qunari angle, trying to make the world a better place while rising above expectations.

Male Human Warrior

Specialization: Champion

Companions: Cole/Varric, Cassandra/Warden, and Solas/Vivienne

Personality: Helpful, but responds violently to BS.

True. I never said I'd do these 11 playthroughs in consecutive order. Like other Bioware games, I'll probably do 3-6 playthroughs then take a long break. Play some other games. Then come back as I always do :)

The only game I was able to play over and over...and over was ME2. I recall 11 consecutive playthroughs...and I did end up coming back to do more. Love these games!

Well this is from memory as it has been several years for some of them both I've done

8 Full Mass Effect playthroughs

20+ Mass Effect 2 playthroughs (most playthroughs I've ever done in a video game, second only to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion)

6 Mass Effect 3 playthroughs.

As for Dragon Age;

11 Origins playthroughs (including Awakening)

8 Dragon Age 2 playthroughs

1) First/Main Inquisitor: Female Human Rogue

Specialization:  Most likely assassin, possibly tempest

Personality: As always my first playthrough would be me if I somehow had all these awesome powers and existed in this world.  Believes that justice must be tempered with mercy and freedom includes rights and responsibilities.  Will try to chart a fair middle course whenever possible but will err on the side of more freedom/less oppression when push comes to shove,  Still likes to have a bit of fun and can play fast and loose with the rules and morality for either fun or necessity.

Ideal Companions: Cassandra, Varric, are probably doing to be my go to duo with the third spots seeing people rotated in as need or story demands but primarily splitting between Cole, Vivenne and Sera mage,

Romance: If Bioware has any sense of justice in this world then Cassandra, otherwise the next most viable female candidate.

2)Beta Inquisitor: Female qunari, Mage or Warrior whatever I feel is the biggest double middle finger to the Qun in character creation.

Specialization:  Knight Enchanter would be a great way to do that middle finger wouldn't it now that I think about it!

Personality: Going to be very anti-qun and anything that smells of it.  Will tend to go with the good and right choices regardless of the price paid to make those choices reality.

Ideal Companions: Iron Bull, Cole, Varric, Sera.

Romance: If Bioware has any sense of justice in this world then Cassandra, otherwise the next most viable female candidate. Yes that c+p is on purpose.

People plan their characters?

Well sure.
Unless you are the type to play the same thing all the time?.... If you only play human male warrior, then I guess planning isn't every needed.

First play through for me will be a female dwarf rogue, probably natural as far as temperament goes. Will do whatever it takes to get the job done, but not outright evil for the sake of being evil.

Second play through will be a qunari mage. Male or female, not decided yet. Will actually be noble, and more leaning on the good/light side.

Third will be a elf archer, probably female. Temperament will probably be cold blooded, and completely remorseless.

Nice list! I too am hoping Cassandra's romance (and character) is done well, she has the potential to be one of my favorite companions in Dragon Age history yet. (I'm a sucker for strong willed females ;)). I also hope Vivenne and Sera are romance options, seems like I'd like them too. We'll see soon enough!

Cool choices, seems like cold-tempered elves and "middle finger to the Qun" Qunari are quite popular among us planners!

Its both surprising and not surprising really all things considered.  The Qunari just seem so stuffy and even their mercenaries, the Tal Vashoth, are basically huge conformists who just conform to their role in life, being super violent and just...as well regulated as the Qun.... at least the ones we met.  So I was first groaning about playing a Qunari and swearing it off because of it but then I thought, wait, AHA! I can make super individual Qunari.

It's their unbreakable disciplinary doctrine, I can totally understand why they're considered "stuffy", but then again they do live with the certainty that many individuals spend their entire lives searching for, rather unsuccessfully.

Regardless, I'm glad our Qunari Inquisitor wasn't/isn't part of the Qun. I'm really looking forward to giving some real personality/individuality to them :)
