I never said dudes are ugly, but I as a hetro male do not desire to romance one.

I still think they are ugly, give me all the ladies.

With this next gen engine, the characters will certainly look good.  I'm excited to see some examples of the characters during E3 (especially the female Inquisitor). Possibly in the Character Creation? So far, the love interests I've seen look quite good. ;)

I don't think I want to meta game, and I'm not sure I'll be able to know beforehand who my first Inquisitor will fall for, but a lot of other people wants to know so it'd be nice of Bioware to at least tell the community about some of the options. Myself, I think I'd like for it to be a surprise, like Kaidan for my mShep in ME3.

I don't mind metagaming this aspect.  I want to know beforehand because like to plan for it.  I'd rather not be disappointed, and I'm concerned that I will be a bit disappointed knowing that there will be gender restrictions again.

And for the people who view it as a spoiler, well, that's the beauty of a spoiler thread.  You can just avoid it if you don't want to know.

Yes I want to know all the LIs and their orientations because then I'll know who are available and I can choose among them. I guess romances are so important to me that I really want to know who I can romance and who I can't instead of finding out in a game that I can't romance this character at all and maybe loosing a change with someone because of that.

That's really the part that I want to know about.  For example, let's pretend like Anders was the only m/m romance in DA2.  You get his flirt options way before Fenris.  If I really wanted to romance Fenris (not knowing that in this example, he's not available), I'd hate to lose out of the option to engage in the romance dialogue with Anders because I was waiting for the guy was never going to reciprocate in the first place.  If I knew Anders was the only option in advance, I'd be disappointed, but at least I'd get to engage in all of that content on my first playthrough.

I'm not sure would I be disappointed if there would be only one male LI for female PC. I guess it would depend on the romance. If it turn out to be horrible romance where the LI would cheat on the PC then I would be quite angry. That would be the most awful thing that could happen. Only one romance which turn out to be like that. But if there wouldn't be more than one male option for female PC then I might try to play as a male PC and romance a male LI in one of my playthroughs :D I have never done that but I think I rather do that than romance a female LI with a male PC.

Yeah, I think it comes down to a person's personal thoughts on the LI if there is only one choice.  For example, I wasn't disappointed with the one choice in JE, because I liked Sky and was happy to finally get any choice.  I was super disappointed with the one choice in DA: O because I found Zev to be written primarily for an audience that wasn't gay men.  YMMV, of course.

I've only ever done a single male romance with a female character and that was Alistair because there was an achievement attached to it.  It's not the same for me at all.  I actually prefer romancing a female with a female over romancing a male with a female.

Don't all the romances start in Act 2 though? I know DA 2 has some issues with handling multiple romances but I'm pretty sure I remember the heart icon showing up for both Fenris and Anders back in Act 1, where they don't have the same consequences in Act 2.

Maybe. I'm not sure to be honest. But with Bioware's tendency for ninjamancing, I don't take chances. There's not a clear 'you are locking this romance in' prompt so I'm always afraid to flirt with someone who I don't want to romance just in case it ends up going wrong for me. For example, I'd LOVE to flirt with Isabela with my sarcastic gay Hawke. It feels like exactly what he'd do with her, but I'm afraid to because I don't want what I intended to be an innocent flirt suddenly fade to black and my poor Hawke loses his gold star!

Personally not particularly fussed since it's only really Sera I can see myself romancing at the moment. If she turns out to be the F/F romance and rejects my inquistors advances then so be it, he'll go with no romance and I'll try it on my second playthrough with my female inquisitor.

Then again, it really doesn't matter if we find out now or later since we don't know what each character will be like in game. I like the sound of Sera right now but maybe she'll turn out the opposite of what I imagine in the actual game.

There's no real harm in knowing before the game is released though.

For people who absolutely have to be spoiled before playing there is an easy solution. If that information isn't available before release, don't play the game on the day it releases.

Wait a couple days and all the information you want (LI or otherwise) will be posted online.

If you don't take any chances then fair enough. But for all it's flaws, the Dragon Age 2 romance system never does a fade to black just from a single flirt. There's generally lots of "breakup" icons, especially before the fade to black scenes.

Man, as a bisexual, I wish I could tell peoples orientation at a quick glance - that'd be great.  ;)

But really, as a player who hardly pursues romance in games, all I want is for BioWare to clearly label when you are about to embark on the romance path so we don't end up with another awkward "sorry Anders, but I ain't into you" moment like in DA2. Other than that, they can spoil whatever they want, even if I would prefer if BioWare kept orientation a secret until release.

Heck, with Anders it was either, I love you eternally, my sweet pookie-bear, no matter what," or "Eww, what? With me? You animal, NO!" Most of the other characters were a lot better in that regard. I did accidentally wind up in a short romance with Lelianna once, with a line after the Marjoline quest ("She meant a lot to you, didn't she?"), but that was again an instance of poor phrasing.

As to the OP, yes. Yes, I would like to know beforehand. I have a feeling that if the romance option I'm hoping most for is even available that it will likely be race/gender restricted, so knowing ahead of time would help me either brace for disappointment or roll up an appropriate PC. I also figure that knowing who is romancable by whom is hardly a spoiler anyway. Like someone above me said, "It's just listing possibilities, not outcomes."

I also don't  flirt with potential LIs if I'm not going have a romance with them because I don't always know when I go too far and end up locking the romance. Sometimes being just friends is also hard with potential LIs because they interpret your intentions wrongly. Sometimes I have thought of being friendly and I have chosen one  dialogue option and to my surprise  my character has  started to flirt when it wasn't my intention. That is one reason why I liked the heart icon in DA2.

I like the surprise as well, but generally I prefer knowing because of the way romance lock-ins work. RL is much more flexible, but in a Bioware game if I turn down a LI then I'm not likely to get another chance if the LI I originally wanted isn't available. Hopefully they'll make it a little more obvious in DAI, eg I can flirt with Cullen but he turns me down. That is so much less frustrating than waiting for a flirt option to appear for the entire game.

Is RL really more flexible? It has in fact been an experience of mine to turn down a girl because I was more interested in someone else at the time who turned out not to want a relationship.

for the folks that were here during the -prerelease of DA2, how did that go? were they being as secretive as they are now? :] maybe that's our answer...if they released romances before the game hit the shelf, then there's a good chance they'll do it this time around

They're releasing far less information about DAI than they did for DA2 at the equivalent time.

I'd like to avoid a repeat of one of my first Origins playthroughs. My Mage turned down Zevran just so he could get his manly hands on Alistair, only to find out the cheese-loving dreamboat wasn't up for some man lovin'.

LOL I was lucky enough (if you want to call it that) to have known that Zev would be the only option for my Warden. But I'm afraid that exact same thing (that you described with Alistair) is going to happen to my inquisitor in DA:I with Cullen. I do hope they choose to tell us. I'm not sure why anyone would think rejection or unrequited romance are "fun things" to encounter in a game.

They confirmed romances before release on Origins and 2, so. I think the fanbase would destroy itself out of frustration if they didn't.

DAI is too big a game to waste time persuing some one you can't have, not everyone does multiple playthroughs and may get fed up and quit without finishing.

It would be the best thing ever if Cullen was only into guys. Won't happen but the angry fan girls would make the game.

It's possible the romance options will be revealed by the time of release, but the sexual orientations? Doubt it. Also hopefully, it's only 4 romances, 6 is overkill.

Considering that they stated that there'll be heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual romances it's impossible to have four LI.
Personally I don't really care to know which are the LI. I'm fine with whoever will be the straight/bisexual female LI.
