I'm torn on to create my typical Human Main character and creating my Sten lookalike Qunari inquisitor. I just love the the thought of a huge hulking Qunari(Vashoth) going around with his firm justice and relentless persistence in the pursuit of hunting down what ever caused this catastrophe. But then again i love being Human in the world of Thedas (sorry kinda partial to my own species). and i usually play through each class with a human. I created this topic with full knowledge that the developers have said that there will be a difference of how the inquisitors treated (race-wise) but would like to hear more.
How much does the Inquisitor Race actually effect the story?

I have read that qunari Inquisitors will have a harder time, probably when talking to people. There's also apparently a mission that you can't do a certain way in you're a qunari.

Didn't the devs say that a Kossith Inquisitor may have issues with the Qunari? (Be seen as a Tal'Vashoth?)
I'm expecting elf inquisitors to be given the typical "knife ears" treatment.

Yeah, according to Laidlaw there's a certain sequence that will be almost impossible to complete if you're a Qunari and will have a slightly harder time in general when interacting with the people of thedas do to how they feel about them.
Race will also come into play with certain area, the devs said that if you're playing as an elf then you'll be able to get more information from them and they'll be more helpful in general if you're an elf as opposed to a human character, the reverse is the same, if you're a human then you'll have an easier time dealing with other humans while yyou're have a harder time dealing with them if you're playing as an elf and in some area's you may be treated harshly.
Also they said that some area's will make it known when you go there, that they don't want you there depending on what race you pick, the full extent is unknown but they want the reactivity to be more than just you know knife ear, knife ear over and over, while young hear stuff like that occasionally they want to construct some interesting set pieces that will differ due to your race and class, also your gender to a lesser degree if you're playing as a Qunari female since we know how they feel about female's fighting and that they specifically mentioned that this will come up.

Seriously? I was excepting some additional one liners in dialouge depending on race like in DAO or at the most some side quests that can only be started with the right race (Similar to Jade Empires meachanics where you could only do certain tasks with an certain alingment).

They've stated that racism and racial issues will not be a frequent occurrence because it would take away from the impact of the moment. Im hoping that when we go to a conference or get together of some form and meet with a bunch of nobles, there will be that one pompous noble that goes goes out of their way to condescendingly question your position and how someone of your "kind" could have gotten there. I'd also like so doubt to happen among the ranks of your troops, questioning your legitimacy, maybe dealing with them by reassuring that you're no different than anyone else or punishing them for questiong your authority.

Probably the same way it affected the story in DAO. You'd get race specific dialogue bits here and there, maybe a unique interaction once or twice. It'd be really cool if certain races had an easier or harder time to get help from factions like they've said, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's just window dressing (meaning that a faction may act meaner to you, but you don't actually have a harder time getting their help)

I decided about midway through Masked Empire, that my Inquisitor was going to be an Elven female. I honestly want to see more about the lore and some small resolution to what Elves might become in Thedas. Even if it's some small thing, mind you. I figure if any particular race NEEDS another hero in DA, it's the Elves.

Well, I could (and would) make a case for dwarves, who are pretty much literally dying out in the trenches, the qunari, a foreign, alien race everyone sees as a threat, and Fereldans, a nation seen as backwater and weak by its closest, much more powerful neighbor and just recovering from a Blight, needing a "hero" just as much.

After that, it has less to do with your race and more to do with the fact that you're controlling a major political and military force.

The dwarves are the only ones who are in a worse position than than elves, and that's because of the singular threat of the darkspawn rather the rest of the civilizations of Thedas persecuting them. If you're judging who needs a boost the most, a nation state like Ferelden or arguably the strongest nation in Thedas like the Qunari "need a hero" much less than elves.
As for the OP, my theory is that it's mostly going to be flavour. Elves and dwarves and humans will likely be friendlier to their own than the others. Qunari will probably be feared by almost everyone, but I'm not sure if there is going to be a whole lot of major content that will be impossible for one or other race to complete.

I didn't say the elves didn't need it most (though it is arguable) but that they are not the only ones who could use it. A Fereldan is just as likely as an elf to face discrimination from the Orlesian nobility for being a "dog lord", even if he/she was luckier in other circles.

Well, you said you could and would make a case that Dwarves, Fereldens and Qunari need a hero "just as much" as elves. I would think that kinda means that you did say that the elves didn't need a hero the most, by definition.
Human Fereldens are much higher on the pecking order to Orlesian nobles than elves.

I'm hoping there is going to be a few missions like that for different races or classes. Trying to deal with Templars(not necessarily red) as a mage, or dealing with humans as an elf, or even dealing with elves as a human. And especially choices earlier in the game affecting later choices.

I don't really hold a definite opinion on the matter. I don't think how much a certain group "needs a hero" can be easily measured, based just on how worse off they are compared to others. After all, mages are probably the most privileged minority in Thedas, but at present I'd say they are in need of someone who can help them much more than any of the others. I believe that, historically, radical improvement only comes when a minority is not in as terrible a position as it used to and is able to appreciate the difference.
There's really no point in trying to decide who has it worst, though. It's good enough to admit they all have issues, even those who seem most privileged.

I think the days where Human Nobles get the option for a different ending than any other race are over. It'd bee too big a sink for making variables and alternate choices. They need some consistency going forwards, or they'll just retcon everything inconvenient away.

I doubt there will be any meaningful differences.

That contradicts what the devs have said their intentions were

I wonder if being a Templar will come into play? I think the devs said they wanted specs to be more meaningful. I'm actually pro-Mage and anti-Chantry, but I still like the concept of the Templar and wonder how it would play out with my opinions.

I suspect for a qunari character they will brought in as a prisoner rather than be able to dress up for an Orlesian "The Game" mission.
