Final Fantasy has a huge fanbase and is multi platform so it can have a larger pool of voters. It really depends on if the story is any good ( for an FF game that is).
I'm guessing that ME2 will pull off the victory but it will not be a landslide. Unless ME2s story is truly epic and FFXIIIs story is complete garbage.

final fantasy ofcourse, they have the best story in their games and the best in-game movies plus the females characters always look so cute or sexy gotta love it, so it will definetly be better than mass effect 2...(I am jk ofcourse, Mass effect 2 all the way, though final fantasy is also good enough)
I'm glad you were joking. At first I was thinking of very imaginative ways to kill you.
lol nah i definetly prefer mass effect 2, its more of my style

For me, final fantasies (and JRPG's in general) fail to connect me with the protagonist or even the situation as a whole. I really can't connect with a sixteen year old girly man with a half shirt showing off his belly button. 'They make you cry' and blah blah, in the end I cannot believe any of the characters are real, just really pretty mannequins talking.
sniff sniff you wound me (throws cookies at jakl201)

The entire FF series has sucked. FFIX was the only one I kinda liked. VII? B*tch dies. Wah. VIII? Who cares about VIII. You know what, I could go on, but the fail of the FF series isn't something I want to go in depth about.
Comparing Bioware (or Western RPG's for that matter) to JRPG's is like comparing a mature, thought out novel to a coloring book. No story, characters are two dimensional (Yes, your a duck with a helmet. Go die.). But at least there are pretty pictures.
Have you really played the entire FF series? I doubt it because if you had you would'nt of only mentioned IX, VII and VIII hell you may not even of mentioned them. You sound like nothing more than a JRPG hater or rabid fanboy, take you pick.
Yeah, I've played...not I or II (I don't think. Is IV really II? F*cking numbering). You can sit there and say it was great back in the day, but truth is nowadays they aren't worth sh*t. 'Oh look, another androgenous whiny amnesiac is going to save the world! Yay...and what the hell's the point of them anyways? Let's take the moral of FFX: If you try and follow the path of your gone, dead beat dad, he'll come back from the future as a monster that'll destroy everything, until you destroy him and cease to exist cause your a dream in some frozen dudes in a wall. ...Well, I will definately not try and emulate MY parents now. Ugh.
And for those who say they created the Role play genre, that actually is referring to Might & Magic, a game that japanese LOVE over there (they still make games following that same premises). That's why you see a lot of D&D elements in JRPG's.
I misguged you, you have my apologies. However i still don't see why people insisit on comparing the two, they're differnt genere. I'll be the first to admit that JRPG's havent had anything major in decade's, where as western RPG's namely ME have been revolotionary.
Don't worry about it, I tend to not explain myself well and come off as an ass. It's kinda cool.
Weird thing about the whole 'genre' thing though is that back in the day they were just called RPG's. But then Bethesda and Bioware start pumping out big hits suddenly there's 'JRPG' and 'Western RPG'. Weird.
The whole "jrpg" and "wrpg" sectionalism thing kind of gets on my nerves... yes it is weird, infact, it's kind of offensive alot of the times.
How is it offensive? They are distinguished from each other because RPGs created by Japanese developers like Square Enix have distinct recognizable features which generally differ from RPGs developed in the west. I can guarantee that if you asked any experienced gamer to play 10 RPGs, five of which were developed in Japan and five from the west, he/she would be able to easily distinguish which were JRPGs and which were western RPGs. JRPGs up to this point have followed a pretty traditional format that is easily recognizable in terms of look, feel, game mechanics, etc.

Also, what is with Japan and choosing Emo or feminate protagonists for its games. I want to know that my character is a guy from the first glance I get of him.

Final Fantasy XIII is going to blow just as every other Final Fantasy game has before it after VII.
I don't hate JRPGs though. Problem with Final Fantasy is that they try to be more like interactive movies.
I'll throw FFXIII in a paint can and pick up Dragon Quest IX instead.

As for RPG of the Year? Careful, there may be some sleeper hits later this year that shock everyone, like Alpha Protocol. And Fallout: New Vegas is due out this year, as well. However, ME2 does have massive appeal (especially since they have improved nearly every aspect of ME1) and may win it easily outside of Japan. But watch out for more JRPGs; some of them are still good and have massive followings. Just look at Demon's Souls.

As for Alpha Protocol, I dunno. I was looking forward to it, but then they push it back eight months without telling anyone. At first it was "ZOMG MUST HAVE!!" Now it's 'meh'. And New Vegas is being done by the same company, so...I dunno what to think. I think Obsidian has gotten too much work on it's plate.
