Is the release date bad timing on EA/Bioware's part?

I don't know what the financial situation is over at EA/Bioware, it could be good or it could be bad, but I'm guessing there's a big budget behind this game and EA will want it to be a major success. Probably needing to sell at least a few million copies. If this is the case, then is October 7 really the best time?

When Dragon Age: Inquisition is released, we got Alien: Isolation, LoTR: Shadows of Mordor, and Drive Club being released that same day. If that's not enough we have a colossal hitter coming out the very next week called Batman: Arkham Knight. The other problem to consider is that Bioware has a bit of an uphill battle to climb here. I'm sure some of you loved Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3, but let's be honest, a lot of people didn't. There's gonna be some people out there who don't have a lot of money that are gonna choose between DA:I and Batman: AK.

The way I see it, I think DA:I is at a disadvantage here to do very well commercially. If you look at the past few years, DA2 and ME3 released without any real competition. I'm making this thread cause I'm a bit concerned about the success of DA:I. If the game is good then I want it to do well so we can keep getting more games from Bioware.

Notice how none of the games it's going up against are Fantasy RPGs though? One could argue Shadow of Mordor, but that's more like fanfiction in my opinion.

Now, if DA:I was going toe-to-toe with a Bethesda Game Studios title (Fallout/Elder Scrolls) we might have a conversation, but even then I personally believe Single Player RPGs don't really compete with each other the same way say, FPS do.

Most rpg players could care less about those games, a more general player like myself for example is gonna to get at least two that month or more if you have the money. Still competently different public overall, so they are gonna to be more than fine.

Alien is cool but after the last **** that happen people are less trusting, LOTR game looks really bad to me, more like a really cliche assassin creed in Tolkien world, without any respect for the lore. Drive Club? waht? Last Batman was really bad too but I am probably gonna to give it a change, since it is the team from the original.

Also, I feel obligated to point out that "Dislike" for Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 comes from a small vocal group, easily less than 0.01% of the people who bought it. To the rest, those games are above-average to Excellent titles that successfully carry the franchise forward.

Well though taking this criticism as a serious point what happens when/ if this game succeeds?  If it goes against such huge compeition in the market and in the gaming sphere and blows the other titles out of the water, or is at the very least competitive?  Though people have made excellent points that different games apply to different types of gamer I would still be very happy if DA I manages to rise above the competition.  Even in comparison to the LOTR game, which, as people said looks kind of bad to me..it could really go either way...but if DA I blows that one out of the water, the premiere fantasy universe of all time, then I think EA/ BioWare/ the rest of us can really get some huge bragging points.

No, all games have to compete against other games and ultimately, the titles coming out on or around Oct 7th are not even the biggest titles coming out this fall. I would rather DAI go up against those games than Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty. I don't think that those other titles are going to be much of competition for Bioware fans or Western RPG fans.

The LOTR looks like a bad rip-off of Assassin's Creed, so while it is an RPG, I don't think it is going to be real competition (generally LOTR games aren't exactly blockbuster sellers). DriveClub is a platform-exclusive pay2win racer, so I will be completely ignoring it. And frankly, the Batman games are successful, but after playing the first 2, I'm not really sure why. The Aliens game really isn't even on my radar either, I doubt that franchise can be milked much longer before it turns to dust.

Those are just my opinions, and while I'm sure there will be thousands, or even millions of other people who buy those other games, I really can't be bothered with any of them, which is great for me, because I'll be digging into Destiny in September, Dragon Age in October and Assassin's Creed in November. And I always like to have about a month or so to sink my teeth into each game.

If anything, I would think Diablo 3 might be the biggest RPG competition for DAI this fall, and that certainly isn't saying much considering it is a 2011 game being re-released on 2 consoles with the smallest user bases (ps4/xbox one).

I'm one of the few RPGers I know who's buying DA:I and Batman. I'm not convinced there's that much overlap to worry about.

......

Ok.....let's start from the top.

We're talking about dislike here, not hate. So you claim that the people who simply "disliked" ME3 and DA2 are less than 0.01%. Oh I'm sorry "easily" less than 0.01%. Ok first off, how do you know that? Secondly you don't, and you've greatly exaggerated that claim of yours. To start, let's forget DA2 and analyze something about ME3 for a moment. We already know that only 42% of the people who bought ME3 actually beat the game, as that information was provided by Bioware themselves (at the time those stats were released). So of that 58% who didn't complete it, how many of those liked the game, but didn't complete it because "reasons". I highly doubt it was all 58% of them. That's just one way of looking at it. Never mind the thousands of players who complained online about those games.

Look I didn't mind DA2, and I disliked a lot of things about ME3, but I still play the game. But I'm sorry, put your prejudice and love for Bioware aside, the amount of people who disliked those games is a lot more than 0.01%

I hope so, but honestly I felt that they should've released the game in late September. They would've had a clearer window then.

Yeah none of those games would fall into the same genre just looked them up, nothing to really worry about and is perfect to release a fantasy rpg against such titles.

Alien: Isolation? After Colonial Marines, I'd be wary of any new Alien games to come out for a while.

I'm pretty confident that given EA gave their bioware devs more time that they ask for things will be very polish and well done.

You have to keep in mind this originally was already due out, but they got a a lot more time thankfully.

The only contender i see listed is the Batman game. Aliens has a pretty bad track record when it comes to games, people who buy it at launch will most likely be Alien fans. LOTR is meh, never heard of a hugely popular LOTR game. Drive Club...come on, it's a racing game, do i need to say more?

And as for Batman, well, if you played one of the Batman games then you've played them all.. plus the new one looks a bit overdone to me, so i'll wait a month or two before picking it up.

Its some impressive sounding competition DAI is up against, but this game has one very significant advantage over the others, and it's simple.  It's going to be a better game, and probably a much better game.  That's not a knock on those other games, and as a gaming fan I hope the others are quite good also, but from everything we know about DAI it's almost certain to be the Game of the Year.  All they have to do to neutralize their competition is make sure that at least one or two of the major game review sites gets a copy nice and early, so everybody already knows that the game is awesome before the games come out, and folks will choose this game over the others, and of course that's going to happen, so there's nothing to worry about.  This is going to be the best, and best selling, game in Bioware history, the competition won't change that.
