Gamers grade on a curve, with new devs getting a break? News to me.

non, no no, you gt it backwards, it's older and/or better devs get no credit at all.

like the fact the two worst received bioware games are/were:

dragon 2 which just plain didn't have the time to do it right and still was/is better then most.

and mass effect 3 which is gold tell you get to the ending. and that is purely subjective as I had no problems with it. but I think that was a victim of hype backlash no matter what the ending was never going to be well liked. hell deus ex human revolution had the same setup and poorer choice reflection and is well loved.

And none of these are a threat. Even then, these aren't in the same genre save perhaps for LoTR which isn't exactly the same either(Still looks really bad though). Batman fans aren't necessarily RPG players.

The release date is fine. Batm

But the batman game coming out after inquisition IS an rpg. And isn't nba2k15 on that exact same day as well?

From experience I can tell you right now the majority of the 2k crowd is not the type to play a game like DA:I.

But the same date alone is enough to cause a lot of gamestops to not have a midnight release for Inquisition. Which is just unfortunate on its own.

Actually if multiple games come out on the same day they're more likely to hold a midnight release because of the greater potential turnout, but if they don't have enough combined preorders they might forgo holding one anyway.

Maybe it's just the gamestops around me, but if a more than one game is coming out on the same day they do a midnight release where you can pick up all the games at once. Which one gets promoted the most (free posters etc. at relase) depends on the number of pre-orders)

If the game is good people will buy it. That simple. Plenty of people are looking for an epic AAA RPG regardless what's coming out at the same time. If anything, it should help them since fall is when the biggest games come out due to high consumer demand for the holiday season. Bioware hasn't released anything since Mass Effect 1 in the holiday season so it remains to be seen how much they'll benefit from it. Word of mouth is your best marketing. If the game is good anyone on the fence will hear about it and buy it. The game will not be overlooked if the product delivers on their promises. You see it as a negative while I see it as a positive that EA/Bioware have confidence to put it up against the crowded holiday season.

Do you get to create you own character in that game? No?

Do you get to pick what the main character is to say in conversations? No?

Not an rpg then, is it?

It suits the entire definition of what an RPG is. But I guess I forgot that rpg stands for reating pyour gharacter.

I suppose we might as well do this week's "what is an RPG thread" now.

No. But you're implying that GTA V isn't an rpg.

What? When did I ever mention GTA V at all.

Your description of how the Batman games aren't an rpg matches GTA V to a tee.

Why does it matter what genre those games are? Game devs release their games for the holiday season because they have a bigger influx of buyers. It's okay to have plenty of competition on the market because they have plenty of consumer demand to go around. Do you really think DAI is going to get overlooked if it's a great game? I would say that the Witcher 3 delay is going to really benefit them for those people who are itching for an AAA RPG and don't want to wait until February for W3. EA/Bioware target specific audiences. Different consumers want different games...

Which is the point, the consumers whom's favorite games are RPGs are going to want to buy RPGs. However, most of them have limited funds. I myself might not get Arkham Knight despite looking forward to it for a really long time, because I'm spending a lot of my money on Inquisition, and it probably works both ways.

It's complicated. You wrote something, then someone else replied, I replied then another person replied and so on and so forth. Anyway it's 3:05am and I'm to tired to think about it at the moment.

I'd post a funny photo of someone with an expression that spoke to how I felt, but the new forum doesn't allow you to do that on mobile devices. So... yeah.

Lets see I've got two enduring memories of Dragon Age 2.

1. The same cave over and over and over and over and over and over..... Without even trying to hide it on the mini map.

2. A story that took you out of the game so they could make the situation unsolvable. Great story telling that.

My two enduring memories of ME3.

1. Maurader Shields being the "last boss".

2. The oh so bad ending

Fair enough if that is your memory of these games but I think that you're ignoring all their good qualities just to hate on them

DA2 enduring memories

ME3 enduring memories

Back on topic:

I don't think any of the games coming out in October are necessarily competition because they are not the same type of game as DA:I.

That's because the games were bad. DA2 objectively moreso than ME3 but ME3 broke the cardinal rule that as long as you get the beginning and end right, the middle of a game does not matter that much.

Unless people are going out specifically to buy an RPG anything is potential competition.

It doesn't even matter when the release date is really.  Some people are going to preorder/buy within a couple of days anyway because they like BW games (ME3 and DA2 included).  Some people are going to use any rationale to say it's a terrible release date and maybe Bioware shouldn't release anymore games ever because the might release on the same date as Tank Wars 55: Armageddon of Snake Tanks.

The point being, I believe October 7 is a perfectly reasonable date, because Bioware games are good, and there is no competition in October.  I don't play MMO's and I don't play console games.  In fact, my PS3 has become the most expensive dvd player in existence.  Opinions... haha Varric.

You state that DA2 & ME3 were bad like it's a fact. It's not a fact its an opinion. As I said in this thread before a persons experience of a game is almost entirely subjective.

COD & AC are incredibly popular and millions of people love them, I find them boring.

Is there a cardinal rule about getting the beginning and the end right? If so then pretty much everything breaks it, there are countless books, games, films and T.V.Shows that get neither right or that both are simply ok or that the start hooks you in but the ending is disappointing, however it's the journey that keeps people interested, its the experience that ultimately made it good not the beginning or the end.
