Is the release date bad timing on EA/Bioware's part?

They have more in common than any of the other listed games coming out on October 7th. They are both story and character driven RPGs, with dialog trees, choices and consequences. They do have a few very significant differences but they have a lot more in common, like being fantasy RPGs in a world of political intrigue and magic and dragons etc.

Actually, the only commonality is the fantasy elements mixed with political intrigue. Saying magic and dragons are common between them is like saying dwarves have beards, of course they do, its a fantasy RPG.

If you look at the two games mechanically, the differences are very pronounced, so it really is unfair to say the two games are similar. I am talking about mechanics via combat, interface, implementation of items and skills, conversations and focus of conversations, and group dynamics.

Aside from Destiny, the other mentioned games are not really of interest to me.  Never did get into the Batman games.  I love the Aliens movies, but yeah, Aliens:CM really left me feeling ripped off like many other players.  Will wait to see what players say about Aliens: Isolation.

Like others, I have been holding off on the XB1 purchase for now.  October is also my birth month so this the XB1 and DAI will be a bday present to me (so nice being a big old kid who can buy their own stuff :)

That said, if Destiny's player reviews go well, I might just grab it and XB1 in Sept.

Or 1% is equal to .01?

Bingo.

If you break down the word "percent" to "per cent" and take into consideration that there are 100 cents in the US dollar, it actually makes sense that .01, or the numeric equivalent of a penny, is 1%.

So for someone to say that only .01%, which is actually one percent of one percent, or .0001, of consumers of any product disliked it while the rest did like it is absurd. Unless that product is free money, you'll find more than .0001 of the population complaining about it (and sometimes not even then).

None of those other games mean anything to me.

MY only concern is that they will announce the Sims 4 coming out sometime around then.

The only thing I find truly weird is it going on the same day as LOTR which is also published by EA.

Rest of it I don't think is much to worry about. The way the fall schedule has changed the last few years you have like a AAA game coming out every week. I wouldn't worry too much about it being close to a game like Arkham Knight.

Ubisoft went head to head on AssCreed with COD last year didn't they?

I thought October 21 would've served as a better date but thats just me.

I like what little I've seen of LOTR but I don't think there will be a problem, my preorder for inquisition is in and October can't get here soon enough. I very much want destiny but I can't afford a next gen console for a while, what with having to have a new laptop and new 360 just couple of months apart so they'll be a next year purchase anyway.

Bioware will be fine and sexy as always if they have released last year it would have gotten over shadowed by the new consoles so it works in everyone's favor this year.I have a feeling this game will be bioware best work of Art yet.

If release is later, maybe Witcher 3 would crush them, if you consider, that the Witcher series (and CDPR) is rated much higher by a lot of people.

They were originally going to be closer together (Both were slated for Fall 2014) for a release until CDPR delayed The Witcher.

I really don't know if people really rate The Witcher much higher, for the people I know about The Witcher complain about aspects of the game too, just like people do with BioWare games.

And yet they barely sell.

For a PC exclusive series, they dominate. The Witcher 2 didn't come out on the 360 until months after the initial release and did very well. Heck, it outsold DA2, which came out on PC, 360 and PS3 on day one. The third game, coming out on PC and all next gen consoles, will give many other games a run for their money.

This is all coming from me, someone who is not a huge fan of the series. Looking at its total sales and not taking into consideration it was only on one platform is short sighted.

Why do you assume people only ever buy one game at a time?

It didn't. It sold 1.5 million copies across the franchise in 2011. DA2 sold over two million units in a couple of months alone.

Yeah, this is what blows my mind. I love Bioware, CDPR, Bethesda, Obsidian, etc. While RPGs are becoming more popular and mainstream genre, there are still very few options annually to play good RPGs. I don't understand this idea of mutual exclusivity, I play every RPG, not just one title or one developer's work.

It is also an issue of loyalty. There are fanboys and haters for every series and developer. I don't get this either, as I personally view every one of my favorite games as flawed but still great. No game is perfect and no game is devoid of merits. People are too absolutist in their assessment of games, for them its either all good or all bad, when in reality, there is always both, and people need to be more discerning in their assessment of the strengths and the weaknesses in each title.

Either they release when other games are released, or they release when less people are buying games.

That was in 2011, before the 2012 360 port, which added an additional 750K units sold.

1.5 + .75 > 2.0

Considering there was no PS3 release Witcher2 did very well. If they had equal advertising I expect it would do even better. Witcher 3 ads on HBO?

I prefer The Witcher , I always get the feeling playing a Bioware game that I'm playing something sanitised despite the rating. The Witcher wears every aspect of its rawness proudly.

The catch is according to that article The Witcher 2 only sold 1.1 million copies in 2011 (with an additional 400,000 for The Witcher) which only adds up to 1.85 million copies for 2011 and 2012.

Personally, I just hope people find a game they are happy playing, for that is what they should be for.

Yes, there is a lot of stuff in that game I'm interested in. On the other hand Bioware have not really made a new game since KOTOR so I'm in no rush. Both ME3 and DA2 halved in price within a month so I'll hold off and see if the pattern repeats unless DA:I turns out to be exceptional.

Wait, are you saying another in a series of LOTR games & a Star Wars game are "new" and the worlds Bioware created for Mass Effect and Dragon Age are "old"?

I know that Bioware have a format that they follow, but they have evolved within that format, adding new ideas that keep their games fresh and interesting. Sometimes these new ideas don't hit the mark but they try to improve their games from one to the other beyond mere graphics.

As much as I liked KOTOR, I prefer games that create their own universe and lore rather than reuse universes that come from novels or films.
