As you know, Ubisoft is releasing "Watch Dogs" on May 27th (today or tomorrow, depending where you're at). The game was supposed to release with next-gen consoles last year but got delayed so it could be worked upon further.

This is what little we know since the review embargo ends on release.

The Story

Set in Chicago, where a central network of computers connects everyone and everything, Watch_Dogs explores the impact of technology within our society. Using the city as your weapon, you will embark on a personal mission to inflict your own brand of justice.

Chicago's overarching network is known as the Central Operating System (ctOS), and it controls almost all of the city's technology and information - including key data on all of the city's residents.

You play as Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker and former thug, whose criminal past led to a violent family tragedy. While seeking justice for those events, you'll monitor and hack those around you by manipulating the ctOS from the palm of your hand. You'll access omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control traffic lights and public transportation to stop the enemy... and more.

PC Requirements

Minimum System Requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows Vista (SP2) / Windows 7 (SP1) / Windows 8 and 8.1 (Note that Watch Dogs only supports 64 bit OSs)
  • Processor (CPU): 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 / 3.0 GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940
  • System Memory: 6GB RAM
  • Video Card* (GPU): nVidia GeForce GTX460 / AMD Radeon HD5850
  • Hard Drive Space: 25 GB
  • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
  • DirectX Version: DirectX 11
  • Internet: Broadband connection required for multiplayer mode

Recommended System Requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows Vista (SP2) / Windows 7 (SP1) / Windows 8 and 8.1 (Note that Watch Dogs only supports 64 bit OSs)
  • Processor (CPU): 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 3700 / 4.0 GHzAMD FX-8350
  • System Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Video Card* (GPU): nVidia GeForce GT600-series / AMD Radeon HD7000-series
  • Hard Drive Space: 25 GB
  • Sound Card: Surround Sound 5.1
  • DirectX Version: DirectX 11
  • Internet: Broadband connection required for multiplayer mode

* Note that Ubisoft's official system requirements do not specify a certain type or brand of graphics processor. The minimum GPU requirements are a card with "1,024 MB DirectX 11-compliant [and] Shader Model 5.0." The recommended requirement is a 2,048 MB card.

The graphics

Already there's the usual talk that the game, or at least it's PC port, looks nothing like the E3 presentation. More on that here:

A comparison of Low vs. Ultra settings on PC:

The reviews

And these are the only two reviews I've managed to find so far:

http://www.flickerin...ame-review.html

Gameblog.fr (4/5):

An excellent first draft in this genre where GTA reigns, the Ubisoft title even competes with it in a beautiful way.

And, of course, who can forget Conan's "review":

So, is anybody getting it? Perhaps you've started playing already? What are your impressions?

Have it pre-purchased on Steam, and apparently it unlocks in 1 hour.

I guess I'll have impressions soon enough.

I had this game preordered last year but cancelled eventually due to funding.

Watched the main plot in its entirety already on Youtube.

Won't spoil anything for y'all though.

Can you comment on what you thought about it without spoiling?

The game or the story of the game? Whatever, I'll cover both.

The story was fine. I had no problem with it. It didn't really stand out to me over other stories, but what it told, it told well. Do I care to follow the story in the future? Not really. But my curiosity may have me wondering and I may watch the story continue in the future.

Gameplay wise, it seems quite barebones. Its cool that you can hack a bunch of things, but other than that the game is basically, "Go somewhere, shoot/hack(depending), leave"

Dialogue is fine. Aiden is constantly thinking things, and you hear his voice in his head. I like that. I wish more games did that.

The cars look basic, not as good as that in GTA. The in-game radio seems to be one channel with whatever songs just thrown in that you either listen to or skip to get to the next, again not as good as in GTA.

The environment is a bit destructible. Not much, but there is quite a few things you can run into with a vehicle and break.

Basically, the game's alright.

I'm downloading it from Origin. This is the very first time I buy a game through digital download. Will I need to install UPlay too?, or I will be able to just play it with the origin client?

No thanks. Price gouging is bad enough at the gas station.

Also; what the hell is with all playable characters being named Jaden or Aiden?! *Gags*

I'm waiting until loads of customer reviews come out. With how horrendously ubisoft has handled the press for this thing I have no idea what it's like.

From what I have seen the graphics are not too special.

It seems like the intensity of the physics engine was reduced too.

Honestly there really isn't.

I'm playing on the absolute max settings, with all the extra Nvidia shenanigans they advertised the hell out of, and it still looks less than half as good as it did at E3 2012.

Watched a gameplay vid with the player controlling some kind of spider tank. The way that thing moves is horrific. Not "bad animations" horrific, but "I didn't even know I was arachnophobic till now" horrific. Maybe just because of how big it is... but it still moves so much like a spider.

Looks interesting. Don't like the sound of forced stealth and instant-failure stuff TB mentioned. I had enough of that frustrating sh*t in AC4. Still, I'll probably end up getting the game anyway. Can't wait for Yahtzee's review.
