No modder can draw textures out of thin air (his ass). At least for a big game like this in a short time. This was supposed to be on the released game and is not a work of a modder.

Modders discovered that they were still there.
Hence, thank the Maker for modders.

I don't know. I think the industry is held back by the massive amounts of money it takes to publish games nowadays. Nobody is willing to take chances (with major releases at least.)
I agree, but at the same time we are also comaining about how weak the systems are and how low-end the graphics of a game look.
Graphics are one of the biggest inflationary costs to game design (along with Marketing, but that's a whole mess of beans completely independent of console vs. PC discussions). If people bought a game with lower end graphics and still could sell millions of copies, then there could be a lot more experimentation and risk taking in the industry. As is, that is not the case. - just like the movie industry, it is very boom or bust, which means you spend a lot making it look shiny and promoting the heck out of it and the leftover of the budget is used to make the actual game.

Played the game for a bit. Got bored after an hour or so. Nothing invited me to continue. I saw nothing that would have made me think there is a fun game in here.
Why anyone would play this instead of GTA V..I could not say.
Somehow it feels that 60 mins was enough to see all hacking in this game has to offer. " Press X to hack!" lol. Lockpicking is Skyrim is more hands-on and prominent than hacking in Watchdogs.

WTFA surprise for the pc gamers.
http://forums.guru3d...ad.php?t=390114
Here you can find a mod that makes the game look like it did at E3. It will also improve the FPS.
My guess is the former.I don't get it.
So was this hidden graphic taken from PC gamers (as revenge) or was reserved as a surprise for them (as gift)?
I still don't get why a game developer would do this.I don't know whether or not I should laugh at this.
Get the games promised graphics, there all along, by changing a few numbers in a .ini file

This is my big issue with Watch Dogs, it's a good game, I can see it is a good game but I just don't care about it at all. On the rare occasions when I have some spare time to play video games I sit down and I ask my self what do I want to play today and Watch Dogs is the last thing in my extremely vast library of games that I feel like playing, it just hasn't hooked me in, it's lacking that X factor that keeps me coming back. It feels very generic, on the rare occasions when I force myself to play it ( to get my money's worth out of it ) I immediately feel board with it and want to do something else with my spare time.

the rain the only thing I really enjoyed in this game. also those last main missions really rustled my jimmies.
more FOV makes the game feel better

also, fixers wont get out their car if you stand on a raised bridge.

Personally I'd say specific gameplay pieces make it more entertaining(i.e. the variety of hacking abilities via combat/driving/walking around). But at $60, eh. It was a good rent. As far as people not feeling interested/hooked, I can't blame them. A lot of the quests/storylines aren't likely to blow minds.I saw nothing that would have made me think there is a fun game in here.

Considering he was as well recieved as a brick to the face, I'm not surprised.
I'm lagging 2+ years behind UbiSoft games, because they deserve the bargain bin treatment, so I'm about to hit AC III soon and enjoy the UbiSoft protagonist blandness. ![]()

The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything we've set out to achieve. We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they're released, striving for the best possible quality. The PC version does indeed contain some old, unused render settings that were deactivated for a variety of reasons, including possible impacts on visual fidelity, stability, performance and overall gameplay quality. Modders are usually creative and passionate players, and while we appreciate their enthusiasm, the mod in question (which uses those old settings) subjectively enhances the game's visual fidelity in certain situations but also can have various negative impacts. Those could range from performance issues, to difficulty in reading the environment in order to appreciate the gameplay, to potentially making the game less enjoyable or even unstable.
Thanks for playing Watch Dogs and stay safe on the mean streets of Chicago.

Ubisoft Explains Why Watch Dogs On PC Had Hidden Graphics Files
They aren't saying much to be honest.
I think they went for a safer route. They are comfortable with their application running at a certain limit but didn't do enough testing for their higher enviromental settings. If they removed their product with those mod settings enabled, who's to say we wouldn't have multiple users complaining about the instability of the product. It was like a quick and dirty resource stripping.
However, they should have mentioned that such a thing is possible and they were addressing it.

I never got on the Watch Dogs hype train, but the lukewarm reception is curious.
The graphics aren't that great even for PC. Not anywhere near top quality. Even consoles can do WAY better then this game. But gameplay wise I can't comment, I'll get it sometime when I'm in need of a game during a drought.

Edward and Haytham did it in one :3
I have watches the story on YT and Aidan Pearce was just too bland and boring. Not once did I care for his vendetta or his family.
The only character I liked was Clara and even she wasnt super.

It's the general problem with Ubisoft.
To me they can't seem to hit the heights they managed to do with the first Prince of Persia in terms of story or characters, without side-steps, adherence to stereotypes of blandness.

For me, that was Black Flag.
The entire cast was memorable, and Edward actually had some of the more meaningful development I've seen come out of a game protagonist for quite some time.
Was kind of hoping Watch Dogs would hit the same notes, but apparently not.

I agree with you there. I hated how they turned all the templars in AC III from level headed people with ideals one could actually sympathize with, to sudden evil villains for the sake of having villains - because otherwise people wouldnt like Connor. The problem I see with a character like Haytham Kenway is that his characterization appears to be solely driven by the plot and not so much on its own. He's the one who got most of the solitary brain cell everyone had to share in the game -- The game plays up these characters at first, like that bloke Charles, as level-headed people driven by their own agenda with somewhat common sense, but the inevitability of the plot demanding Connor as the protagonist dictates "Thou must" become a villain, suddenly they are hardcore mustache twirling fundamentalists.

Doesn't seem to have worked though, because even after Haytham started executing defenseless people most people still liked him more than Connor. :S
Though, I'd argue Haytham was still fairly reasonable in most of his stances, and didn't change overly much after the perspective shifted. He just became a little more ruthless all the sudden.
Charles was a little jarring though.

I finished Watch Dogs last night, and I genuinely liked it. I liked Pierce, the supporting cast, the world, and the main campaign. Getting invaded and invading other every now and then was also fun.
I say 7/10, would recommend, but now that I'm done with it, its time to trade it in for something else.
