I don't think DA2 was that much of BioWare's fault as it was EA trying to pull what Ubisoft is doing with Assassin's Creed having a yearly launch. Now if the new IP Casey Hudson is developing works out, I can see a new BioWare game every year, but each franchise being on a three year development cycle (pure speculation of course).
I have the same thought. Ubisoft was able to release AC yearly because they have multiple team working on it. So one team work on this year title, another team work on next year, so each game will still have around 2 years of development. Though, imo, Ubisoft is in a rougher spot since AC is pretty much their only strong IP right now. They attempt to launch another with Watch dog but from what I've seen so far of that game, it's not really that impressive.
BioWare is different, they have multiple IPs to work with: DA, ME, new secret IP, SWTOR, and maybe another Star War games, not to mention good old Jade Empire. If things work out, they can easily circle around and maintain 1 big title per year speed without rushing anything (ideally, roughly 3 year development per game, which is pretty decent amount of time imo).
At the time DA2 came out, they only have 2 titles on their name, DA and ME, probably someone high up wanted to quickly follow DA:O (2009), and ME 2 (2010) success and pushed for a yearly release schedule. And they had it: DA2 (2011) and ME3 (2012) both wasn't as good and successful as they could have been. Swtor is an mmo so I don't know if it can be counted (and I love that game anyway lol). Though since they decide to skip 2013 to give DA:I more developing time, I guess they might have learned their lesson.
All in all, having multiple big titles in their bag can give BioWare big advantage over other dev once fanbase is established, but also pretty stressful I bet. As long as they maintain their pace and DON"T rush things, I think their games will be as awesome as they were again.
Anyhow, I have faith in them, and loving what I've seen so far so yeah, pre ordered deluxe ed already
Can't wait till E3. Wonder if they would finally reveal their super secret new IP there
