You fight against inevitability, dust struggling against cosmic winds. It seems a victory to you - Harbinger ME2: Arrival

I'm proud of announce MEHEM: Harbinger Addin release!.

What is this addin about?

Based on Koobismo art (Marauder Shields Comic, The Debt, part II), I decided a year ago to help to restore ME3. The main villain was reduced to a puppet, and as I liked Harbinger's badassery, I tried to turn Koobismo's concept into something playable.

MEHEM: Harbinger Addin shows us the battle between Shield fleet and the Reaper Overlord. During the video, you'll see your war assets in action.

Sorry... what?

Thanks to MrFob's mastery, the video triggers your victories into the game. There are two sequences recorded for each race (except Krogan, who don't have starships). Each sequence is triggered if you recruited this race.

For example, if you got the Volus bombing squadron mission, you'll see Volus bombing squadron. If you didn't, you'll see random turian frigates.

That is more, the whole video is only triggered if you get a high EMS MEHEM ending. After all, you are hitting the Reaper Overlord's butt.

Do you have a trailer for this?

Here you have two trailers! (ingame video below, at the end of the post) Second one is from version 0.8 (going to be replaced by a 1.1 vid, possibly soon), first is taken from 1.1 (final). Teaser has release quality. The second doesn't, is an old version.

Teaser trailer (2014) (Release)

Original story trailer (2013) (old 0.8 version)

Is this a stand alone module?

Nope. You need MEHEM to use it. Is based on the same idea that MEHEM uses, use objects removed from starkid scene. So, is not possible to use it without MEHEM.

Why Harbinger, then?

Because we recruited a lot of battleships for the final battle, and I know some of us wanted to see them killin' somethin'! xD.
That is more, Reaper Overlord suddently spares Sheppard and goes back to orbit without even taunting you. After trying to kill you a whole game. Why on (half destroyed) Earth?

That's because it sees the real threat. Lets see a little interpretation:

Harbinger: "Ha, I got you Shepard!!. I'm going to enjoy this mome..."
Random Reaper: "Sir, the Crucible!. The bacteria completed it!. And seems that another human passed through the beam to open the Citadel. Only TIM is in his way. They are going to atomize us."
Harbinger: "What the... ****??!. I was shooting at Shepard, laughing at the Normandy when... oh hell. It was a trap, in Ackbar's name!. Back to the orbit, right now!. Sheppard is dying, anyway. I WILL DIRECT THIS PERSONALLY"

Sounds legit, isn't it?

So, this is a video...

Yes, it is. It re-uses retextured scenes of my custom shep, and some scenes from ME2. My animation level is not good enough to make my own character animation. It lasts for about 6 minutes, and all the ships were animated from scratch using UDK. At the beggining, we only had this:

http://3.bp.blogspot...default map.png

We evolved a little since this moment ;)

Also, all the voices are new, but Harbinger's, Rachni, Volus (Biotic GOD), and Aria T'loak.

And some sound... not very professional

Mine included, sorry xD.

All the actors volunteered when the project was uncertain, and they all put a lot of effort into it even not being sure if this was going to be aired.

Same goes for the devs who helped me (Special mention to MrFob for integration, and WV for the ME3Explorer).
And the testers.
And the quality control team (Special mention to Deager).
And installer testers.
And my GF telling me that everything was going to be okay, and that we were going to make it.
And people who suffered me hitting my head with the table.
And the table
And the ones who made suggestions.
And the ones who say "I want this! Please do it!".
And the ones that will download the addin.
And Bioware.

Every single person who gave a hand in a way or another, made this possible, including VA's.

So, beyond my own voice (yes, it could be better, and perhaps I'll repeat it in the future), no voice is going to be replaced unless the VA wants to repeat it.

I owe them. I owe you all ;)

Ok, you are a speaky guy. How do I install this??

Is easy. You have to have installed MEHEM, and Leviathan. Sorry folks, I'll release another version without Lev, but is another whole installer compilation, so at this moment, that's the only one I have. The other is planned, not yet released. I owe Deager an installer for CEM as well, and is going to be aired first. Expect it soon.

The Hotfix is related to a version mismatch we found during the installation process. Seems some people (me) have a different Default.sfar for the extended cut, and others (the rest of the world, until now xD) have another. This difference makes the installer to fail. Is under investigation right now.

If you try the installer and it says a file size is wrong, try hotfix. Then installer. Then enjoy :)

PRERREQUISITES:
-Clean install
-Last ME update.
-Extended Cut
-Leviathan
-MEHEM 0.4

HOTFIX:
http://www.adrive.co...r_hotfix1.0.rar

INSTALLER (MEHEM 0.4+Leviathan):

MANUAL:
http://www.adrive.co...xYDeA/Harby.rar

INTEGRITY CHECKER:
http://www.adrive.co...rityChecker.rar

The integrity checker is a custom tool to check your file integrity in case of installation malfunction. Just place in your ME3 directory and run. You should have these file sizes:

File size: 2796266 bytes. ->Spanish TLK file
File size: 1951220557 bytes.(vs 1951220893) -> EC DLC.  If you have the first one, you NEED the hotfix. In case you have the second, you DON'T
File size: 1561264222 bytes. -> Leviathan DLC
File size: 22524412 bytes. -> movie 1
File size: 85945348 bytes. -> movie 2
File size: 41726108 bytes. -> movie 3
File size: 41646524 bytes. -> movie 4
File size: 40368844 bytes.-> movie 5
File size: 858836 bytes. -> movie 6 ?  (I honestly don't remember that one... just ignore it because seems to be a failure and is just a report...)
File size: 858836 bytes. -> Toc.bin

OTHER MODS COMPATIBILITY:
-None. Please install this first, then textures, addins, or anything you want. Then other mods.
-CEM compatibility is planned soon.
-If you are another modder and want a installer, please send me a PM. I have an universal installer that require few programming skills to be custom. I plan to do an automatic one.

Ok... I have it installed. How can I check it?

If you want to do the easier, just load after the crucible docks. Shepard speaks with Anderson, Joker calls, s/he falls, and then... you'll see.

WARNING: if you load the last autosave, you can see some strange things during the Harbinger battle. Like seeing the "decision" chamber. Is recommended to see only that is working before restarting the mission.

And is only in english...?

Mostly... yes. I plan to do releases with the subtitled videos in english and spanish. Right now, is raw english. Sorry, I haven't had enough time and recompile all the videos with integrated subtitles is a headache. But I will, I promise. This, or another mod that adds subtitles.

I have to observe, though, that this patch also includes a Spanish translation for MEHEM. So, you can see the MEHEM emails and stuff in spanish. Well, if you're playing in spanish, of course. It says "Hackett" on the citadel when Joker is speaking, but if you spare this, is readable right now.

I plan to release this translation for MEHEM 0.4 on its own, but I would like to find out where this "Hackett" is hiding before.

And now... do you have a full preview?

This is the video itself (audio not smoothly syncronized on youtube due camtasia capture problem > :( ),captured ingame with standard-broshep. There is also a suddent stop that my pc gave the time I was recording. This did not happen again afterwards. Murphy's law.

Integrated video (2014)

(Don't forget to see the credits!!!!! A lot of people will thank you for seeing their names and effort reflected there!)

PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR THE ARRIVAL! - Harbinger, ME2: Arrival

I hope you like it as much I've enjoyed doing it.

THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Looks great. Should let you know that the link to the installer just comes back to this page. And let me get this straight, it ISN'T compatible with CEM atm? Would I get errors and such if I tried to use both anyway?

Are you talking about MEHEM to CEM? It should be ok as long as you install MEHEM, then Harby, then MEHEM to CEM. Since MEHEM to CEM is a manual install you replace a few files and can run the DLC TOCbin updater and TOCbin updater to get it all working.

CEM itself doesn't affect any of the files MEHEM or Harby use so no problem there. If you have issues with MEHEM to CEM just post it on the CEM forum.

Major Ooops.

Link fixed.

As Deager states, is not compatible if you don't do in proper order. If you install any modification over the files that the installer checks, it simply won't run.

Doing manually, it should be fine, but I haven't tested it yet myself, sorry.

This looks phenomenal, however, I have a question.  Would this not work with the Anderson Extended Conversation mod?  Using the integrity checker, my EC DLC file size does not match either of the numbers you have listed.  I have MEHEM v0.4 installed, along with the extended Anderson conversation, the fix so that music plays during the extended Anderson conversation, and I have CEM installed.  I also edited all of the war assets to what I believed were more "realistic" numbers.

Question: would any of the above mods affect the ability of the Harby installer to work correctly?

Thanks in advance for any help on this, and again, incredible work!

I believe I can answer this JTerek88:

In order to install the Harby mod with the installer, you need to have the unaltered version of MEHEM v0.4.

So the correct procedure for using the installer is:

1. Make sure you have a vanilla ME3 game

2. Install MEHEM v0.4

3. Use the Harby hotfix

4. Use the Harby installer

5. Install any additional material like JohnP's Anderson convo and/or additional LIs, CEM, etc.

Note: depending when and how you install stuff in step 5, you may need t run the TOC.bin Updater for the main game and/or DLC (this can't hurt in any case).

I believe IHJ had planned to also provide files for a manual install at some point. With the manual files, you could then install the Harby module manually after other MEHEM mods as well. But that's up to IHJ

IMPORTANT: If you want to run texture mods, you need to install all content mods BEFORE running the tree scan. This includes all of the steps described above.

@General topic: I am very glad that this is finally out. I am afraid this got stuck on my end for quite some time before I got around to finish my part on it (sorry 'bout that). I think IHJ did a really good job on depicting the scope of the battle in his videos and I am also very happy that we managed to make this mod be reactive to all the different war assets you can gather. Now you will actually see the Hanar/Volus/Batarians/Rachni/Geth/Quarians/Mercenaries but only if you did recruit them earlier and kept them alive throughout the game. Personally, I think that was something the final battle needed.

Also, we had a bit of fun with all the ship captains that are reporting in. :)

@JTerek88

A clarification here. The installer is based on NSIS technology, that "patches" the DLC's. That means, that it takes your DLC, compares it with a list of changes, and apply the changes. If additional changes are performed BEFORE these, the installer will not have a correct start point.

So, the installer needs a clear start point to use as reference for the indicated files. Alter any of this files, and the instaler will confuse, that's why the integrity check exists. This, however, does not affect to any changes you do afterwards.

Oh, and uninstallers will be created on the main folder!

@MrFob

Yeah, sorry about manual files. I had some problems with my pc yesterday, I still have to upload them...

Nothing of this could've been possible without you, so a huge thanks! ;)

Somewhat of a shame that it requires MEHEM v4, as I prefer the pacing of the v3 incarnation, but it is understandable why that is the case.

Brilliant work none the less.

Well, as I'm uploading this week the file for manual installation, perhaps you can upgrade it manually :)

I'll help you to do it if you need advise.

The offer is very much appreciated. I'll be sure to take you up on it.

I hope I don't seem ungrateful but some of the dialogue does seem a bit 'out of place'. I really did cringe when hearing the 'hero' line and there seemed to be a lack of urgency to the delivery in a lot of cases. The fighter's pilot especially didn't seem that concerned with the danger about him.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to put anyone off as I think this mod is a great piece of work and thank all involved in its creation.

Now you will actually see the Hanar/Volus/Batarians/Rachni/Geth/Quarians/Mercenaries but only if you did recruit them earlier and kept them alive throughout the game. Personally, I think that was something the final battle needed.

Thanks for the information!  I couldn't agree more with all of your sentiments in the @General topic part up above.  The reactive ability of this add-on is what is the most enjoyable (for me at least).  And I absolutely love the line for the hanar (I don't want to spoil it for anyone).

I will have to run through all of this and then see if I can get it running,  Regardless, between this, MEHEM, and CEM, I don't think I ever could have imagined a revised ending as comprehensive as this.  This still blows me away; especially the newly created videos.  And despite what anyone else says, the voice acting is not as big of a deal as people make it out to be.  I think it's actually quite good in some spots.

Thanks again for all of the hard work!  Is there going to be some new version of MEHEM that wraps some of these options all together?  (And fixes the image of Earth at the end of MEHEM, as that's the only small thing I can think of that also hopefully wouldn't be to crazy to fix.)

Which error?

About second question. This was not planned. Is quite hard to change stuff, let me explain.

My time estimation would be.

2 hours to modify the animation (as I don't remember how this particular sequence was made)

10 minutes of capturing.

15 minutes of processing (to Mp4)

10/15 minutes of changing the sequence

10/15 minutes adjusting the audio/ adding new voice (Harbinger)

10/15 minutes processing sequence in MP4.

10 minutes transforming/trimming to avi HD

10 minutes transforming to BIK

Horrid amount of time integrating (this was done by MrFob, I have no idea of how to do it), more horrid amount of time testing, then re-making the installer. Then test the installer itself.

That, assuming that this would fit into the project, and that I only make Harbinger emerging from the explosion instead of showing debris. If we plan another different battle, this could go to another year easily, attending to RL issues.

Is quite hard to do any changes, so at first I would say "no" as short answer, sorry :(

Sorry, I missed your answer :(

Well, there we enter in the opinion swamp ;)

First: No offense at all. Its your opinion and is completely legit.

I have heard a ton of opinions about the video voices (almost all my friends and work colleages have seen it), and some of them refer to some actors and lines, and some to others.

In my hero line in particular, I tried to make whe whole acting as an "old, badass dread captain. He is pissed off, but starship movements, specially the movements of the big ones, require a tempered thinking and acting". The speech, after all, is directed to a lot of people aboard all the ships involved. Thousands, maybe. I though they needed to hear his captain voice saying they are the guys that were going to save the greatest hero of interplanetary history.

That was the reason of the speech for me :)

It's like the "Fire" line.

I was required to record it as a "FIIIIIIREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" at least six times, because is was not enough passionate. Others said that was a "self-censored" anger tune of the captain, that he is so f***** up that he prefers that "dangerous, neutral order that hides rage". I prefer this second explanation, I liked it a lot xD

At the end, I think is about tastes.

Then, Wavion puts the SSV Titanic voice and we all have to take our hats off. I loved this one.

Ok, so as stated before, you have to have the files in a certain state -clean mehem 0.4 installation - in order to install. Afterwards, you can add/change whatever you want.

I hope to have time this evening (Madrid time) to upload manual files.

Hi,

I worked on installing the Harbinger addin today. I have been asking questions in the forum to be sure I am doing things right. Despite a few hiccups, I seem to have succeeded and I thought I would post my process here in case anyone might find it helpful. Also, if someone knows where the odd error came from, they can post here to help someone avoid the problem in the future.

Deleted Mass Effect 3 folder and redownloaded the entire game from Origin....

Play some From Ashes to confirm game working...played some multiplayer; again to confirm it was working...

Installed MEHEM v0.4 using provided installer from Nexus.

I started the game up and loaded a save where I had just finished Tuchanka. I confirmed the presence of the extra emails to be sure the MEHEM had installed correctly.

I then attempted install of Harbinger Add in, but did not use hot fix or integrity check (stupid, I guess) Started Mass Effect....got "DLC is corrupt please download again" I don't remember verbatim, but I do know it did not specify the DLC that was "corrupt."

I uninstalled Harbinger add in using the uninstaller located in Mass Effect 3 folder, and that seemed to go smoothly.

I then attempted to use the hotfix, and it acted like it was actually attempting to install the Harbinger add in, but I then get an error. (This one I screen capped so I am repeating verbatim here) Size of C:\......Mass Effect 3\BIOGame\DLC\DLC_CON_END\CookedPCConsole\Default.sfar is not correct. Exiting

I ran the integrity check and got these results:

File size: 2796266 bytes.

File size: 1951220893 bytes.
File size: 1561264222 bytes.
File size: 22524412 bytes.
File size: 85945348 bytes.
File size: 41726108 bytes.
File size: 41646524 bytes.
File size: 40368844 bytes.
File size: 858836 bytes.
File size: 858836 bytes.

This is a little weird, bc those are the results that state I shouldn't need to use the hotfix. I thought I would reinstall  Harbinger and then I could copy the error verbatim.
Install went smoothly, and when I started up ME3 I was a little surprised that I did not receive the corrupt DLC error. I loaded an older save where Shepard is fighting at Cerberus Headquarters. Ran it all the way up to the conversation with Illusive Man and Prothean VI.
Worked fine!

So I am not sure what caused the error, but it seemed to resolve itself.
I am about to start working on installing CEM; I'll post further if anything crops up. I plan on installing v1, which means a manual install; so I'm off to back up my currently working ME3 folder!

I installed this mod no problem along with the manual install of Citadel Epilogue Mod.

Constructive criticism... the audio needs some work. I just couldn't understand a lot of what was said due to low volume or audio quality. MEHEM started out this way and improved and I think the same can be done with this mod. The battlefield is too busy and needs to be cleaned up so that the action is center-stage. It was just hard for my eye to settle on one thing. Pacing of the battle needs match the stock video footage with the game, the ship movements are at times to quick and sometimes we only catch brief glimpses of brand new ship designs.

I think this mod is a great idea and that it adds to a part of the game that is sorely lacking, so if you are inclined to improve it those would be my initial suggestions. I know this is fan-made and I appreciate all the hard work and free time that went into this.

I appreciate the observations :)

Well, first of all, all the ships in the scene are there with this idea in mind, some similar as the Omega4 relay debris. Action scenes are quite hard to implement, and some of them are just...eh ... tricked. I mean, if I remove partially or totally the background, the magic will be ruined as you'd see the trickery I used to implement the movement xD

An example: I don't have a crucible model. I never had. But, you actually see the crucible there, in Destiny ascension scene, and in others. Thats a trick, and without the background you'd see the "real model". easily and say : "WTF"?

So, I know that the background does not fit, but is a "necessity".

About voices and sound, well, I did as best as I could. They can be surely improved, even using my original audio files.

The main problem around is that my RL is eating voraciously all my free time, so is possible I don't have any to fix the issues. Maybe in a year or more. I still owe Deager his installer :S

My plan is, though, upload all my material in order to allow anyone interested to make newer versions, upgrades, or even addins. UDK is a nightmare, but with a powerfull pc and some time, you can do miracles with it. And if you start with a base, is even easier.

I agree with you, a ton can be improved, but I'm afraid it will be hard for me to continue :(

Expect me to upload everything I can to the nexus and the ADrive as soon  as possible to be available for everyone.
