Why do you need to use the most effective weapons there is? Isn't it more important to play whatever you like and have fun?
In general I think that weapon damage should be toned down a bit except for certain kits(which they would get compensation within the kit itself if needed).
It says quite a bit that a lot of "casters" are more effective using a weapons build than they are a power spam build. Right now, weapons are far superior to non grenade powers.
and as the thread has been informing you, there is a number of good weapons you've not mentioned in all categories.
I know how to play with any/all of the weapons in this game. I can still do well with them but will not be killing things quite as quickly or effectively.
WTF Ox? Obviously.. min/max builds are the only way to play.
WTF Mega? Shh! I'm trying to get as many people as I can to play dumb weapon/kit combos so my PPR GI can topscore every game.
If you can't kill things with an Arc Pistol as effectively as an Acolyte, I can't take you seriously.
I generally do not try to kill things with an Acolyte, but rather strip the shields then use my powers for the killing...
Discounting the commons because they're well "starter" weapons just about every weapon in the game has a role.
ARs: I never use the Vindicator or Argus because I've got a Valkyrie X - and I don't really like the mechanics of the semi-auto guns. The CSR and Geth AR are the only other ARs I never use; CAR seemed too heavy for what it is and the GPR - well, never got around to trying it after the final buffs, don't like the noise it makes. Everything else has a role, from trolling team-mates by using a TSol/Phaeston vs Reapers (I M Marauder) to Falcon lord-of-stagger, Quarksman/Saber, Volus Merc/Typhoon ... I've got a use for just about everything.
Shotguns: the only non-common shotgun I don't use is the Scimitar, and I've seen people lulz with that on the AIU, but ordinarily where I might use that I'd generally go with a Piranha or Talon. Otherwise I use every shotgun including the Disciple (the weight and stagger make it useful in certain niches - just the reload timer is a swine).
Pistols: hmmm, I don't really like the Supressor because the Arc Pistol does the same job but better, the Carnifex is largely pointless once you've got a Paladin X and the Phalanx is actually heavier than any SMG with ULM so I tend to go with the BPP instead. Everything else, again, I've got a role for it.
Sniper Rifles: I've never used the Incisor though it's apparently quite good on the TSent (stability bonuses) and I've only used the Raptor for the SR Mastery and Outsider challenges - but everything else, yup, even the Viper (on the SE) and the Krysae (GI).
SMGs : GPSMG is fairly redundant since they fixed ULM but everything else can be used... the Hurricane is not the be-all and end-all of SMGs, the CSMG and BPP are just about on a par with it, the Hornet is good on Turians (possibly as a secondary), the Locust is a nice accurate secondary on snipers and the Tempest is pleasantly light (and lulzy on the TSol if you put on both the ammo clip boosters).
So of the what 60-odd weapons in game there are maybe 12 I never use and I've seen other people do well with most of them up to gold level, so I wouldn't say there's actually that big a pool of "useless" weapons. Sub-optimal, perhaps; niche, certainly... but useless? Nope.
Anyways thanks to all who responded in an appropriate manner. I will definitely give some of these weapons another try when I play today, namely the Talon, Eagle, and Arc pistol.
And Venom too... don't forget that ![]()
Graal, kishock, scorpion I can understand. How does lag turn suppressor, CSR, Valkyrie into garbage. If the lag is so severe to screw up hitscan weapons, then almost all weapons are garbage with that lag.
In my experience, the Suppressor and Valkyrie require headshots to be of much use, which is much harder to do with lag. And with lag that causes your damage to happen too long after you actually hit the target, the Suppressor and CSR's painfully low ammo capacity makes any little bit of ammo that was wasted on an enemy that may have actually already been dead a serious issue.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Graal, Kishock, and CSR, and enjoy the Scorpion and Valkyrie sometimes. And I use them off-host plenty, regardless of the fact that it may not be ideal. I do hate the Suppressor though...
I'm eager to hear your progress with some of the weapons that have been brought to your attention, OldeGrim.
I also cringe at the idea that no one you've played with has ever outscored you. I'm sure if you hang around these forums long enough, that'll change.
And Venom too... don't forget that
I don't think I have that one yet. Is it a rare or ultra-rare?
I haven't received an ultra-rare yet since coming back, and hadn't received one for months before my hiatus. Pretty frustrating as I have probably spent over 20,000,000 on Premium Spectre Packs since my last ultra-rare. Weird because I have quite a few ultra-rares that need to be maxed out. I am either glitched or terribly unlucky.
Shotguns: I prefer the Geth Plasma shotgun, but I know the Claymore is popular. The wraith is also pretty decent but the rest of them? I never even touch, again due to killing inefficiency.
The Raider, the Venom, the Piranha, the Crusader, the Graal, and the Reegar certainly dont suffer from "killing inefficiency". ![]()
But I don't think its a problem that there are different tiers of weapons, and that some weapons are just better than others- so much so that fully leveled up rares and ultra-rares essentially render the commons and uncommons obsolete. That gives you incentive to play, earn credits, and unlock/level up your guns. The main problem I see in terms of balance is between the various classes of weapon (shotgun, AR, smg, etc), relative to one another- shotguns are just sooooo much better than everything else. It would've been kind of nice if the top weapons of each class were more or less on par with one another.
Do you think it's possible that a player with high CPs and N7 is not good at the game?
It's absolutely certain. As evidence, I present myself, with N7 > 3k, and CP > 11k((*). And I am certain that I completely suck.
(*) Yes, I know that the numbers aren't very high, but high enough to prove the point.

Lol. I was talking of people with 150k+ CPs. And I did not mean to say they sucked, just that they were underwhelming.
No, but I do agree that there are too many useless players.
I still can't fathom why a thread about guns in a video game could strike so many nerves and apparently so deeply. To personally insult someone over it is just ridiculous.
Thanks again for the proper responses. I am enjoying trying these guns out with my newbie buddy in bronze and silvers. Didn't want to take him straight into gold or platinum as the last time I did that with a couple of friends, they never learned how to play properly lol.
Also I had posted that I hadn't received an ultra-rare in ages. I Opened up my first PSP of the day and got one! after 20,000,000 credits spent and months of playing. It was a CSMG III ![]()

Heh - welcome to the Internet, it's quite possible to receive a personal insult just by saying "hi" ![]()
(I used to moderate the Arts & Culture forum on Fortunecity waaaaaaay back when I was a student - get a right-wing religious type to start a thread about "why do artists always paint naked women" on a forum like that if you really want to see an Internet furrball explode ... or you know, just visit the forums that shall not be named)
I only think the Common and UC weapons are legitimately bad.
I agree with the title but not with the actual post. There are a helluva lot more good guns than the ones you've mentioned and without reading the comments, I am pretty sure they've all been mentioned somewhere in this thread.
Lol. I was talking of people with 150k+ CPs. And I did not mean to say they sucked, just that they were underwhelming.
Well, even those numbers are top 1% for N7 and top 2% for CP. There's a limit to how high you can set the bar and have a reasonable case.

If it makes you feel better...I was insulted over me spamming Shield Boost and thinking it was OK with that when I actually had 0 idea about it's "blocking" bug...
Too many insecured teens IMO... ![]()

Mantis, Phaeston, Incisor and Locust are all decent guns.. and the Incisor can even kill bossess well too.

This thread made me LOL.
