So in both of my Mass Effect 1 runs, I romanced Liara. 

Playing through ME2 for the first time, I just finished Horizon, and plan on romancing Miranda, and then post-SM, getting back together with Liara (if I do LotSB). 

However, after finishing Horizon and running around to talk to characters, almost all of them had interesting dialogue options which seemed to more than ask if Shepard and Ashley were close. 

Kelly Chamber's dialogue went so far to ask is Shepard "had strong feelings for her." 
and here's the dialogue tree: 

Liara's picture was on my desk starting the game, so I assume it registered correctly. . .

my assumption is that they have that identical Kelly dialogue (and others) regardless of ME1 romance options. 
Is this assumption correct? 

Additionally, these responses won't lock in/out any romance options with others, correct?

I had a whole 1 character that didn't romance Ash in ME1 (and that was actually an accident), and I only played an import from that character once.  Unfortunately, I don't remember if the dialogue post Horizon was different, especially from Kelly.  I thought the other crewmember dialogue was fairly generic and may have been the same though.

I don't recall having seen the "strong feelings" dialogue with the VS when I didn't romance them. So I can't say. But as far as Miranda goes, you are still good to go. Just do her Loyalty Mission and make sure to side with her if forced to side with either Jack or Miranda.

 

To check on your relationship with Liara, go to Illium and find out how she greets you. Does she kiss, or do they hug? (The kiss animation is pretty poor, so it may not look like they are kissing, but it is clearly different than a hug.) If she kisses then Liara is still your ME1 romance.

 

I don't think you can go back to Liara in LotSB if you have done the Miranda romance already. It would be better to do LotSB before doing Miranda's Loyalty Mission or at least the romance dialogue. That way you can have the cabin get-together with Liara as if you were in a romance with her, then after that you can pursue your romance with Miranda. After that, when you get to ME3, DO NOT BREAK UP WITH MIRANDA WHEN YOU FIRST MEET HER! Instead, if you wish to go back to Liara, simply do her lock-in meet-up before meeting Miranda in the apartment.  This way you will ensure Miranda's survival and still be able to romance Liara.

 

And I don't think Kelly cares if you are in a romance with anyone for you to get her to dance for you. The one thing I know that will stop her from coming up to your cabin is to tell Chakwas that the only thing that counts is the mission. Kelly won't like that at all and won't send you an email about meeting you in your cabin.

Could be. I have an mshep that is pursuing Tali right now but I haven't played him in a while since I am working on a femshep "Let's Play." Maybe I should get back to him during uploads so I can check on this.

I've only imported Sheps with T'Soni romances.  Those dialogue options with Chambers are always there.

I just did that mission a couple days ago I'm my second run and also romanced Liara. Kelly asked me the same exact thing after horizon.

As the last two said; the remark is always there.

Especially awkward if you play a straight shepard and the VM is of the same gender.

TIM also has a similar remark, about being sure your relationship doesn't affect the mission or so.
