Does anybody remember that? I was playing Awakening again the other day, and during the Blackmarsh mission, 'The First', a talking darkspawn that was sent there by the Mother, sends you to the Fade. If you watch the scene, what the First does looks extremely similar to the Inquisitor's Fade 'power' we've seen so far. In fact, the green glow is on the darkspawn's hand, exactly like the Inquisitor.

How did that happen? The Mother probably did that to the First, but how did she do that? That darkspawn was also a warrior, so it wasn't even a mage darkspawn, meaning that the assumption that it sent them to the Fade similarly to how mages can go there at will using lyrium is not likely (and still far fetched).

In Awakening, this fact is ignored completely, with the Warden not even really wondering or wanting to find out how the darkspawn managed to open a passage to the Fade and send them all in like that. And I hadn't given it much thought either, until now where the Inquisitor having that power is so unique and important.

So how did it happen? And was what the First able to do the same thing the Inquisitor will be able to do?

Any theories?

All The First did was send our minds to the Fade, similar to what Sloth did in the Broken Circle quest in DAO. You can tell because despite being killed in the Baroness' courtyard, the First's body is still where he created the trap.

It was the Mother's magic. She had cast the spell to send the Warden to the Fade. The First was just the delivery boy.

Think about it: why would he cast a spell to ensnare himself and then act as though he were betrayed?

He didn't send them physically to the Fade just their minds, which is why when the Baroness used blood magic to send herself and everyone else to the mortal world, your party woke up in their bodies and Justice went in to Kristoff's.

As the other guy said, it was the mother's magic. Which explains why the First was surprised to find himself also trapped in the Fade.

Well anytime anyone goes to the fade its just they're consciousness that does. So stating that is kind of pointless guys. Also the mother is a ghoul meaning I don't know if she has the power to cast any spell. Darkspawn draw their magic from the taint rather then mana/the fade. So in theory the first could've been able to cast a spell if he was powerful enough to be considered an emissary... It also could've been another emissary that cast the spell on the first. Either way I don't think it was the mother, herself.
