For Golems of Amgarrak just play on easy up until right before you face the Reaper. To get the cheevo you have to beat him on Hard or Nightmare. 340g at Ostagar is worth it. And that means more money left over to buy the real good stuff in Awakening.

Jeez. These games are easy enough without huge cash infusions, aren't they?

So would you say the same if I were gay and say that I prefer if they not create achievements linked to specifically hetero romances because I can't bear to sit through them just so I can get the 100% completion?

Yes, everyone would say exactly the same thing if you were gay. It's not the orientation that's the problem.

Again, how come it's OK to have achievements for different choices in other areas besides romances?

Because I prefer one to another. It is a personal preference. I derive no pride or peen from getting romance achievements, but beating ME trilogy on insanity and getting those achievements, specifically with a timestamp on the achievement fills me with pride. It lets everyone know, I am great at killing stuff on the hardest difficulty.

Same with the harvester achievement. That is one of the most difficult fights in the DA series and I like having a badge of honor showing that I accomplished a difficult task. I suppose it comes down to the fact that something that requires technical skill is more gratifying to me than a romance achievement which (while I greatly value roleplaying) doesn't really require any skill, but replaying through the game numerous times and going through different dialog choices and character romance arcs. I love twitchy games and games that provide me with skill-based challenges, and when I am successful and accomplish something challenging that not many other people can, I want some kind of recognition or badge of honor to reflect my skill.

I was unclear there. Skill challenges, sure. What about the non-skill challenges? Side with Branka and get one achievement, side with Caridin and get another. Or should those go away too?

Well I think the difference is that Branka/Caridin is a major quest arc, while romances are side arcs. I think having an achievement for the biggest and most meaningful choices in the story is more rewarding to me than a sidequest. Major choices generally depict the kind of character you are roleplaying as, while a romance arc is relatively minor in comparison.

I'm sure there are those who will disagree with me about main story arcs vs side arcs, but it for me, it just boils down to major arcs being of greater import than minor arcs and thus major arcs deserving more distinction and recognition. That is why I made my paramour suggestion in the earlier post, I don't have a problem with there being an achievement for choosing to participate in romance, but I don't think every LI should have their own respective achievement.

Furthermore, achievements should be pretty limitless, at least on Origin, though not on PS4/Xbox (as those platforms do have requirements for achievements) and if the developers want to, they should just load up hundreds of achievements. I don't really have a problem with specific romance achievements other than that I think they are excessive and superfluous when there are limitations imposed by platforms. If the restrictions for achievements are removed and there are no limitations, then I have no problem with every single romance or every single quest arc having a corresponding achievement. But as long as there are limits to the total number of achievements, then I value major story arc content over minor story arc content.

There should be an achievement for having NO romances. LOL. Romancing a character in a BioWare game is as easy as starting off with 'Hi, I'm the protagonist'. I'm thinking that it'd be a harder achievement to get than paramour/romantic.

Here are the stats for DA:O. DA2 took a while 'cause I had to make a call for the DA2 stuff.

Dragon Age Origins

Plat 1.4 %

First Knight (Alistair) 8.6%

Witch Gone Wild (Morrigan) 24% !

Easy Lover (Zevron) 10.1%

Wine Women Song 11.8% (suprised me)

Dragon Age 2.

Plat 1.4%

Romance 46.2%

Conclusion I wasted a thread :P

wait didn't Gaider say Leliana was the most popular romance?

Seriously, it's just a little digital icon that says "good job!" who cares? You don't have to get the romance ones if you don't want.

I don't have a problem with an achievement for completing a romance.

No idea. Those are only stats for PS3 players taken from the PS4 trophy list. I do however have a correction to make. The 46.2 figure is for starting a romance. The actual completion figure is only 24.4% my friend gave me the wrong trophy data. This is the correct data.

Flirtatious 46.2

Romantic 24.4.

Only .4% greater than the people who romanced Morrigan.

37% of people completed DA2

17.9 % completed it at least twice.

I really can't see a reason to drop them.  They are, after all, part of the game.  Now maybe some people don't want others to know what they're doing in game, but since I don't have to go in and set all the flags, or manually click "I did this romance on this character", it does it automatically, it's not like it's going to take away from my gaming time.  So just leave it alone. <_<

Instead of achievements, they should take the more immersive route of allowing us to put a notch on our bedpost in-game for every "romance" completed.

I'd like them to exercise their right as the game's developer to pick and choose what they want to be trophies, and leave it at that.

It's pretty clear that not everyone will be happy about everything. :D

He did. "It’s like how, when I say that Leliana is the most common romance in DAO—by a significant margin—fans are sometimes surprised."

I guess its because the DAO achievements don't actually show who completed the romance. You get the achievements just for getting your Warden to sleep with the character. Morrigan and Zevran will sleep with the Warden at low approval levels, so while a lot players will get the Morrigan achievement, many don't stay with her to the end to complete the romance.

Just that. It's tacky and I don't want to have to do a romance just to ping a trophy.

My question would be: Why do you care so much about achievements?

I'm honestly asking, because I just do not get it.  They're just things you did in game, and they're completely meaningless in any real sense.  I completely ignore them.  Honestly, I wish there was a way to turn off notifications of having "achieved" them, because they mean nothing to me.

The ONLY time I've ever cared about achievements was in Mass Effect 1, where getting them gave me stat increases.

I'm not trying to say others should ignore them always, I'm just wondering why so many seem to attach so much importance to them.

There are limits on console achievements? Wow. Any idea what the criteria are?

Have you heard dat voice? Totally swoon-worthy.

I adore Alistair and did his romance until I figured out there was no way to get out of the DR.  I didn't care for the way Alistair romance required the DR; or he leaves; or one of us dies.

I then started romancing Zev.  I like Zev well enough so I marry off Alistair to Anora, they got along pretty good, and enjoy having him tell me I was right to enlist Loghain to kill the archdemon.

I like Leliana and did both m and f romance, but now we talk about shoes.   :)  It's actually one of my favorite conversations.

XD I love how I can play my Cousland as completely "meh" in that conversation. "Shoes are shoes they're just there to keep the cold out." lawl between that and "I'm gonna write in my journal." Leliana's romance has the funniest lines XD

I did not think I'd like Leli's f/f romance as much as I did XD

It having pretty much no banter is a crying shame though :(

I use this line every time.

I'm not sure if the Warden is clueless or just trolling?

But it's great.

Aint that the truth! She's ninjamanced me based on some glitch or another where even if I haven't spoken to her before that point she confronts me about my "other" romance and says I lied to her, etc...I'm like...crazy lady.

Yeah, I had that happen to me IRL, so at first I didn't actually know that this was a bug. I figured she was just a little coo-coo for cocopuffs.

Alpha Protocol did this. I never got it because it wasn't as good as I was hoping so 2 playthroughs was all I could muster.

Of course AP also had an achievement for romancing all women possible on a single playthrough....
