But in certain movies and my own wild imaginings I have always thought it would be neat to use a Bow as a weapon up close and personal to at least drive people off. Wheras in DA 2 Hawke would draw a knife to fight people off at close range, I wonder if Inquisition won't use the bow.
Anyone have any input? Is this possible? Do we have information regarding this? What would you like to see for a Bow focused Inquisitor do for melee combat?
It would be awesome. If they don't then whatever but it is possible to use the bow as a melee. For example:TV Show Arrow uses his bow for melee when using martial arts.
In Skyrim, I was able to kill my follower (poor Lydia) just by tapping her with my bow. Granted, she was down on her knees to begin with, but maybe we just need a simple tap, similar to that.
I'd think getting clunked in the face with a bow could be fairly effective, without the unbelievable speed it could take to switch weapons, otherwise.
For sure. If anyone's used Green Arrow in Injustice... Use that for when enemies get into melee range.
That looks....cool. Though maybe a bit too special sauce all things considered I do not expect a character to just use a bow as a staff and cause people to knock their enemies out of the park, more just a few moves up close if the enemy gets in range. Like, for instance, strangling an opponent with the bow string.
So I went searching for a gif of Legolas stabbing an orc in the face with an arrow, and found nothing but this:
Sorry. ))
Yeah I was actually thinking of Legolas when I started this thread, and that, would be really good too. Just stab people with an arrow then as soon as you deal with the threat put it on the string and fire it. Or alternatively do it close range to begin with. Have someone stab at an enemy to stagger them and then follow up with a return shot.
*sarcasm-kinda* make a specialized bow with blades and spikes, which could be used as a melee weapon for CQC.
Actually, now that you mention it, with what they did for the DA 2 bows, some of the higher level ones...why not? Many of them did have spikes and they did not look especially apealing to me...but could they have a practical use? The Flames of the Inquisitor Bow looks like its metal and it has two dragon like protrusions sticking out of it, and its on fire...I don't think I would want to get whacked with the thing. Probably for a significant damage reduction and what not, but again...why not? I mean it may not be exactly practical but since when was 'Hail of Arrows' practicable in the real world?

I forgot about Skyrim! that would be exactly what I am talking about.
The Arrow (TV Show) fights well with a bow. But truthfully I don't think anyone will see it as worthwhile to do that in DA:I. Perhaps the next one, if there is one , that will be next gen only.
But there are going to be all sorts of limits because the game is cross-gen.
Am for this, as long as it appears fairly realistic; no Boomerang Bows of Death or some such animations.
Maker's Breath that would be horrible. :/ I can just see the Inquistor twirl the thing around and launch it at the enemy in a white lancing light cutting down all who oppose it.
I liked the DAO approach, but I wish archers automatically switched back to bows after close quarters combat was over. IMO it'd be redicilous if they started bashing the enemies with their bows. However this is not a deal breaker for me. I would really love quarterstaves to make a comeback though, so i could make a ranger type archer.
I know it fantasy and that RL should not have that much to do with it but for me even more an immersion breaker than BFS, so i much prefer when the archer is drawing a blade.
as well for diversity of play, if the archer can use blades may be he could have access to one or several blade tree/skill/talent.
Yes ME3 did a phenomenal job at improving upon gameplay mechanics of its predecessors. Rolling, huge amount of new weapons, new melee mechanic, granades.....Crazy stuff. On top of that you had multiplayer with every single race playable (besides hanar, which is understandable.) Then you got all the followers appearence and the biggest choice-consequence events since the witcher 2. ME3 is easily the best in the series.
On the other hand Dragon Age Inquisition keep doing the same thing over and over again......This distinct classes talk is getting old. As well as no time" for including awesome features excuse.... ME3 did so much to imrpove upon its gameplay, although it was direct sequel to a trilogy, it was in the same time frame and had less development period. On the other hand, we have the DA dev team, not trying something new, refusing to give more variety in terms of combat styles and gameplay in general. I pray ME4 keeps improving like the series always does, and for Inquisition.....i pray that it has at least quivers. Or bowstrings. Or if bioware are feeling extra desire for development, maybe both.
Just to mention some games which revealed dual wielding in the last couple of days - Lords of the Fallen (longsword and dagger), Shadow of Mordor (longsword and dagger again) I am sure next to follow will be Risen and Sacred. Too bad all those games did not have the appeal in terms of story or characters. Still i would probably prefer them, because at least they offer some variety in terms of melee combat instead of making a sequel which is even more limited than the original game ( Origins).
I want gameplay designers who worked on Origins back to save the day.
Hey, there's an enemy in front of me. I should break my bow across his face then have nothing left to shoot arrows from! And if he gets back up I'll just draw the dagger I should've drawn in the first place and stab him in the face with a weapon designed for melee!
