How on earth do you defeat the 'other' Shepard on the Normandy? It is stupidly difficult and has ruined a good game?

Need more details. What is your class? Weapon(s)? Squadmates? What powers are you using?
I find that the clone fight is easier with some classes than with others.

Concentrate on the Clone, forget the others. Having Dominate as a bonus power can be of use since you can Dominate one of the Cat6 guys which will distract them. Bring grenade squadmates. Shortest fight I ever had was with James and Ashley. What class? For Sentinel: Overload shields followed by Concussive shot. Then inferno grenade followed by Warp or Overload. Give James and Ash a Typhoon.
Alternatively, put the difficulty on casual and listen to the dialogue. ![]()

I recently fought her as part of my Combat/Marksman Engineer Insanity playthrough. I noticed that the clone likes to get in close but will back off as soon as her shields have been dropped, a blessing because her SMG was ripping me apart at point-blank. I used Sabotage and Overload to keep her at range, followed by Marksman with my newly acquired M7 Lancer to deal damage. Garrus and Kaidan did a good job of keeping the Cat 6 Specialists off me, more luck than judgement possibly.

The clone is a real ****** as an Adept. Definitely kept me on my toes, especially with that biotic flame grenade.
Got to a point where I had to start pressing the attack once the mooks were watered down, and blitz with War/Flare combos to not only keep trashing the Clone on its last couple medis, and to keep Brooks out of action with her having that gorram Crusader.

This quest absolutely sucks. Have been trying to beat the clone for three days--taking cover-med gels--to no avail. I wish I didn't buy this expansion.

It would be easier to provide some help if you provide some details.
What difficulty are you playing?
What is your class? What is your build?
What guns are you using?
What squadmates are with you? What powers and weapons are they using?
Don't just say 'this sucks, can't beat the clone.' It is much easier to provide help if you give some more information to work on.
With more information, I can try (and others can try) to give you more specific information.

There are some boxes somewhere with infinite medigel.
Someone once said that there is a place somewhere behind the crates to the left, where the clone can't reach you.
I haven't fought the vanguard yet, but he/she has barriers, right?! If so use Liara and Javik to get BioSplosions and stagger him.
Charge when needed and only use (Javiks) grenates to stagger the clone when you are in trouble.
The clone has (as far as I remember) 4 Medigels available. The fight is over shortly after he/she used up the last.
(Explosive) Incendiary and the high RoF of the tempest together with nearly continuous biotic and fire explosions should actually give you the upper hand.
If you can ignore Brooks and the CAT6 guys long enough, that is.

Vanguard is definitely the toughest clone fight.
Not the greatest weapon setup for a Vanguard. Looks like you are playing more of laid-back Vanguard. That actually makes the Vanguard fight tougher. Charge or Charge-Nova Vanguards make the Vanguard clone fight easier. Most shotguns or Talon pistol are generally better for the Vanguard. But with your weapon setup, the Lancer is probably the best weapon of the bunch since it has decent accuracy and damage and a good rate of fire.
Lift Grenade? Vanguard does not have Lift Grenade by default. Is that a mod, or do you mean Inferno Grenade?
Generally speaking, you would want to charge a lot, and Nova (half blast) a lot to make the fight go easier. Prime the clone with Liara's Warp or Javik's Dark Channel and then detonate with Charge/Nova. If you can prime Incendiary Ammo on the clone's armor (you do have Incendiary Ammo, correct?), then you can detonate it with Charge/Nova, or Shockwave if you are using it or Liara's warp.
Somewhere on the port side (left side if the elevator is to your back) in one of the crates is an infinite medi-gel supply, so you can keep going back for more if you need to.
Additionally, some players have noticed that if you "kill" Brooks, then the Clone will go next to her and revive her. This gives you an opportunity to take some free shots at the clone.
The toughest part of the fight is actually the CAT6 crew, but they will keep respawning until a cutscene about part-way through the fight. So it is better to focus on the clone. The Vanguard clone is the most aggressive of the clones since it can charge right next to you and Nova.
Using Charge and Nova yourself (if you have Nova) will make the fight go a little easier; priming with squadmate powers first will bring the boom.

You can take down 50%-75% of it with skills that shouldn't affect shields very much (like warp + throw).
Seriously, the only thing you need to do, whatever class you're playing, is to keep detonating sh*t until he's dead. Constantly.
Oh and if you do have nova.. abuse the immunity it gives you for a moment. (counter the clone's nova)

Fighting vanguard clone is tough when done by conventional means. But it can actually be super easy.
This is what I did on hardcore:
Have a super low recharge rate so that you can spam charge/nova.
Charge the clone. Shoot her with your shotgun, preferably the Disciple for its stun affect. Rinse and repeat. Use nova as a panic button or for crowd control. Rinse and repeat
Your squad mates (i had Garrus and Wrex) will do fine occupying Brooks/mercs, though they may require an occasional medi gel revival.
LIterally just keep charging her. This way she can't escape you, and you're pretty much untouchable. Vangaurd clone is tough the moment she escapes your sights, so you keep her grounded by spamming charge, stunning her with shotgun/nova, charge again, etc. Eventually you drain her health to trigger the cutscene.

Started the quest over-tried suggestions---nothing. I shoot at the clone--to discover he is behind me at the same time. Try to move--someone else off's me. They all throw grenades. Will either quit game and not import a plater--or go to something else--

Have you considered lowering the difficulty? Or are you trying to go for an achievement?

How do you lower the level of difficulty? That option did not appear when I started the game.

1. Pause the game.
2. In the pause menu, select Options.
3. Select Gameplay.
4. Change the Diffilculty.
5. Save the changes (I think you just have to exit out of the menu).

Vanguard is definitely the toughest clone fight.
Seriously? Novaguard is a joke, even on Insanity. Just keep the pressure until he's dead.

Only if you use Charge and Nova yourself. Even using Charge is fine.
Try it without Charge or without Charge and Nova. It can be a freaking nightmare.
