I just started an Adept run yesterday in ME1 and it again struck me how much less painful it is to start an Adept game on Insanity than it is for Soldier.  Soldier is punished pretty hard for not bringing Kaidan along for the first few missions, while Adept is a bit more forgiving in that regard, as long as you don't do some very strange build and you take the best pistol in your inventory.

I may be a little biased since I also tend to do Therum nearly right away (after Missing Marines, just because it is in the same cluster), and Soldier is punished pretty hard in the Battlemaster fight without Kaidan bringing along Advanced Lift or neural Shock.  Who you bring as an Adept isn't that big a deal, any of the tech ones are nice.  You don't really even need a tank since they aren't going to tank the Battlemaster at all this early anyway.  Just make sure you have Advanced Lift and lift the Krogan before he hits immunity and you can kill him in the air w/ debuff and Marksman.

Of course this is somewhat moot if as a Soldier you take Lift or Medicine as bonus powers.

Wouldn't a Sentinel be even easier?

I don't know.  Perhaps, although really they are sharing the bulk of the powers that are really good.  You could say you only need to get basic Neural Shock for the Battlemaster (IIRC), but it makes sense to get at least Advanced Lift for picking up the armatures earlier in the mission.  It has been a while since I last played Sentinel, so I don't remember how many talents you can level when you first fight Saren's assassins outside Chora's Den.

Mainly it was because my last run before this was Soldier and it was sort of fresh in my mind.  I haven't played adept in a couple years now in ME1 and it just seems to make a lot of the missions go a lot smoother early.  Just have to watch for snipers. :)

Another one that is irritating early for non-biotics is Missing Survey Team (you go in the mine and a bunch of husks bum-rush you).  Obviously if you already have Liara and you also take Kaidan it wouldn't be so bad.  But as an Adept you can nearly CC all of them yourself.

I don't see how sentinel would make it easier, other than allowing more squad flexibility while being able to open crates, and perhaps the Moon mission.

One other trick to play on the battle master/geth group is to get Tali's AI hacking up and functional early.  If you use it right after the cut scene is finished on the toughest geth there, it tends to cause a nice little cluster (usually including said battlemaster) where you expend your grenade inventory effectively.

The only problem might be if the hacked Geth shoots the Battlemaster he will use Immunity and then you basically have to wait until it wears off to damage him.

What tends to happen if you are vanilla Soldier w/ Tali - Garrus is that you can mop up the Geth pretty quickly, and the Battlemaster might even screw around a while, and then after the Geth are gone you don't have much in the way of effective means to deal with him except your 2 decoys and then clutch grenades.  If he decides to charge Shepard you are pretty much done (you can outrun him until you are fatigued, at which point you are usually killed).  :)

I don't recall if there is a level of Damping that is useful for him.  When I level them they don't tend to have more than basic at this point I don't think, that is mainly because on the Citadel I dump all Tali's points into Decryption and Electronics first for Master and then work on Hacking (and I am not sure if you can get past Advanced on Therum doing this).  Garrus is sort of similar except he will probably have 1 pt Overkill and you have to spend points in First Aid to get Electronics.

I ran an Adept on Insanity a few years ago. The forum i frequented then had members chiming in and telling me how it was going to be impossible and bla, bla, bla...

They never tried it obviously, because that character was an absolute monster all by herself.

Yeah I don't know.  You mainly see that in regards to ME2 (where it is an exaggeration).

I am in late game now where basically all classes are super powerful.

ME1 Adept was way easier than ME1 Soldier, I used Wrex/Garrus and Kaidan untill I got Liara and then used only Liara and Kaidan/Garrus as Garrus was OP with a sniper rifle and had dampener. For Krogan i used lift, singularity or throw to rag doll them and then kill them that way, otherwise I used stasis to immobilize them and just sprint past them.
