City Elf
For tying into other entries in the series I'd say the most referenced (in DA2 at least) Were the human Mage because he was Hawke's cousin, and the Dalish Origin because of Merrill.
IMO.. it would be Female City Elf, Male/Female Human noble and Elf Mage =D
these were some really fun stories.. XD
AS you may have read or not the many replies, most are their own experiences on such a subjective topic. In the end, it really is your origin. You could select one or an amalgam of some of the suggestions here and get what you want. Then again, you may find it unsatisfying if choosing one or a sum of the many. If Bioware (which looks to be the case) uses The Keep as the save import system, playing your game again could be a moot point as you'll be able to make the choices you made in DA:O and DA2 carry over to DA:I.
Having said that, playing DA:O seems never to get old with me as I have more than 20 times.
My personal favorite, and the one that actually got me into the game, was the Dwarf Castless origin. I enjoyed the rags to riches story. For long term plot impact, the Human Noble is probably the best way to go, but it isn't my favorite to play. It's too traditional of a set-up for a fantasy game, and one of the things I love about the DA games is the variety in cultures.

Dalish or Elf mage. Then maybe Dwarf Noble.
Human Noble.. I don't see the big deal. I think Alistair gets the better HN story. It's a role filled already.
If you want most influential, Human Noble is it. Dwarven Noble is pretty close too - I would recommend playing it at least once anyway because of the insight it gives you into the whole Dwarven storyline. Although, the City Elf and the Mage origin give you insight, too...
Actually, I suggest you play all of the origins, and choose the one you like best as a character. You can just play the hour or whatever each and save it, and if you want to, come back to it (or don't). I wish someone had told me to do this, because I loved the Female Dwarven Casteless origin and didn't even play it until about half a dozen playthroughs later. If you really want the influence, go Human Noble, but I think seeing which origin you bond with will be more satisfying to stick with the whole game, DLC, and Awakening, if you get those.
In my opinion the best are the Human Noble and the Dalish Elf. The Dalish has quite a bit of material not only in Origin, but in Awakening and Witch Hunt as well and get's referenced by Merrill in DA2. The Human Noble's the classic hero who's the only one who can become offical royalty and (at least if it's a he) gets a funny call back in Awakening involving Nathaniel's sister.
Seconded. Plus with the human noble there's an extra satisfaction in killing Howe.
City Elf
Magi has a ton of ****** awesome lore involved, but........Jowan..........
HOW DARE YOU SER
*defends jowan with my life*
Best origin Human noble.
DON'T BETRAY ALISTAIR I feel like he is more important to DA lore than Anora is. Harden Alistair's personality and either persuade him to marry Anora or have him rule alone. Do the DR so you both live, get whatver boon you want from the King, do Witch Hunt DLC to get closure with Morrigan and then do Awakening. Your Warden ends up disappearing regardless and it's kind even more frustrating when they're supposed to be King/Queen Consort and no one cares.
I was fairly attached to the dwarf noble origin. My dwarf killed things she only came up to the knees on.
They all put a slightly different spin of the story, so they are all good in their own way.
can someone tell me, if there'll be new different background stories in DAI or if they're just mentioned as in Mass Effect?
I never finished a dwarven noble. Curious about its end, I should look it up as far as, she/he still remain nothing in Orzammar or do they become something respectable. Either dwarf origin in fact, only got half way with rogue casteless dwarf.
Once you stop the blight you end up a paragon.

Its probable that its mentioned like Mass Effect. Though unsure of it myself.
Edit: Thanks, I was thinking that might of happened but wasnt sure.
okay, thank you :-)
A Dalish warden is my canon. I liked Merrill and Marethari referencing him in Dragon Age 2 - especially because the Dalish PC is one of the main reasons Merrill turns to blood magic. She hoped to find Tamlen and the Dalish Warden with the eluvian, and it sucks how this interesting explanation for her choices is only reflected with a Dalish Warden imported. Other origins miss out on this IMO.
Also, a Dalish Inquisitor may hopefully hear reference of the imported Warden. I'd love it if Alistair said something along the lines of "What is it with the Dalish and saving the world?", having had two Dalish PC's in the same trilogy! I'd also like it if Solas mentions the Warden.
I really like the coming from nothing, bottom of the barrel etc and I love Dwarves so DC is what I go for 9 times out of ten. But To me the One origin that makes the most sense (and is the best one) is the Dwarven Noble! (imo)

I plan on having both my Warden and Inquisitor be Dalish too
. The Dalish was my favorite to roleplay in Origins, and I'd be curious to see what kind of references there will be with a Dalish Inquisitor.. hmmm
