It's funny how much Howe is mentioned. After all the conflicts and demons in this game, Howe seems to overpower everything.
Best Origin?

My "canon" choice is Human Noble primarily because it just seems to work best in the overall story. Seems the most connected. Seems the best choice for a warrior, which I see as the most fitting class for the Warden character. Plus its the one I can relate to the most. I basically still see the Warden as the "me" character, where as Hawke and probably the Inquisitor as well feel more like Bioware characters. I'm human, so yeah.
I do have a certain love of the Dalish origin though when paired with Witch Hunt and Morrigan being a love interest. Has a great way of ending where it started, walking through the mirror with her wraps the whole game + expansions up in a nice circle, like a Floyd album. I really like that. Plus I like elves. So that's my favorite "non-canon" pick.
Of course, the only origin I really don't care much for is Dawrf commoner.

Cousland (Human noble) for me, simply for the reason that killing Howe is so much sweeter in that origin..
Actually City Elves have great reason to kill Howe as well. He led the slaughter through the Alienage after the riots. He mentions it a little and says something about 'culling the herd' to you when you first arrive in Arl Eamons estate, but Bioware could have done more to point out the personal reasons to kill Howe for a CE.

I'm really happy to see how well received the dwarf noble origin is. It was by far my favorite one so it's really nice to see that I'm not alone. Dwarves get kind of forgotten alot and those numbers indicate that they are also the least picked race in DA: O. I'm glad to see that those who tried them, liked them.

I think dwarves are the least picked because they're the least like humans. Elves are just humans + ears, so it isn't hard for someone to roleplay an elf. Dwarves can be harder (I find the romance scenes especially wierd). Which is sad because the Dwarven origins were amazing. I loved 'em both. Although I haven't yet slain the Archdemon with a dwarven commoner, the origin itself was very good.

My favourite origin is Human Noble, because you can have sex with a dude right away.
And then he dies right after, so there's no morning awkwardness!

And here my human noble beats himself up the rest of the game over Iona.

City elf was my favorite and dalish elf was a close second due to the tie ins it had later in the series.

BioWare has no "canon" they just have a default background they choose to go with this time around.

It's technically default to us (the players), but they must have their own in house canon for reference (for books and such). And it wouldn't be different than the default. Or at least, I don't see why it'd be different than that default.
They've done well to avoid mentioning the Warden though.. but we do know Alistair being king is part of their own canon. Among other things (fates of Leliana, Sten, Shale, Wynne, etc).

BioWare has gone to great lengths to explain to us that they have no canon of their own. They try to avoid referecing choices dependant on player interaction as a result of it.

Of course they do. Any time they make a fixed choice from something that was not a fixed choice in the game.

If I think about it too much, my head might explode.
I don't care if they have one or not.. All that matters is my own playthroughs in the end. It just that it doesn't make any sense to make fixed choices or reference points, and then say there's no canon. They are working from some kind of template. David Gaider isn't Jack Kerouac, writing his novels from stream of consciousness. He's obviously referencing his own view of the world.

And that is still not canon.
It is really not that hard to get. Whatever background BioWare establishes for the expanded universe novels and comics are NOT canon. It is simply a showcase of what would happen if certain criteria are met. BioWare's choices of background is not any more, or any less, valid than any of our's.

That's where I disagree. It is more important.
I just don't care if it is.

Then you would be disagreeing with BioWare themselves on the matter.

i think he was referring to not the origin, but his wrap up with it by surviving and the whole witch hunter thing being not cannon, cause the cannon has the dalish warden dying

Bioware's 'canon' is really only the canon for the book series, which is a different continuity from the games. There is no canon for the games. For the most part what you choose is what happened, unless retconned in a sequel. (Leliana dying, for example)

I think what I'm trying to say is.... I'm mentally prepared to adjust to whatever is in the books. I'm willing to give Bioware a certain priority. It's "virtually" canon to me, and I'll make little adjustments to line up with it. I'm not going to call it something stupid like "David Gaider's fanfiction" (he's written a blog on repudiating just that. He himself says it's "official" story material). And I'd rather not juggle the idea of multiple universes. If push came to shove, I'd rather just say there is a canon.
Good thing is, I don't have to adjust much. It's not like they go out of their to declare specific types of story details.

That's semantics. Whatever is established in game or book that over rides your choice in canon. Canon is anything that applies outside of the experiences of a single player or group (in the case of table RPGs).

This. This right here is EXACTLY what BioWare specifically said was NOT the case. BioWare, as I've now had to repeat several times, have gone to great lengths to ensure us that ANY playthrough is "valid" and that there is NO "official canon". BioWare does however, for obvious reasons, have to establish some sort of background for their future content and material, but what they chose to go with IS IN NO WAY OR FORM the official canon. For all we know, maybe in DA4 they choose to go with the default backgrounds being a Dwarf Warrior Warden, Rogue Hawke and Qunari Mage Inquisitor. And it STILL wouldn't be the official canon, since there exists none.

In this case however the book canon does not override game canon. The devs have even said as much. The results of your DA:O playthrough is the canon for the game universe if you import or utilize the DA:I keep.
