Personally I consider it a Mass Effect faux pas to go into a random Gold+ lobby and run without consumables.  I never think "this guy is so amazing he can run without consumables," I think "this guy can't be bothered to equip even the most basic amps and ammos."

In all my time playing the game I've run into a whopping two people where we're good enough to roll completely without consumables and still hang. One was a Fury and the other was a Smashguard.. both used an Acolyte. Coincidence? I think not..

As I often play Silver pugs still, using consumables seems wasteful though I will always use Gear of course.

Gold wise, I'm used to just always equipping it is almost instant...Not like it's hard to choose.

Or he doesn't care if anyone notices. You don't need consumables to win the match, you need teamwork and biotics/ammo.

 

If he had either an N7 under 120, low challenge points, or bad guns, the answer is simple, they didn't have any. And i'd say they only have 2 of everything (medigels, ops packs, missles, TCP's) throughout the whole match. So if they don't gel their reason is because they only got 2 and can't afford to waste any compared to a person with 6. With these guys there is a high chance you will have to carry/revive them frequently due to them obviously not being suitable for gold, even if they put consumables on it won't change that fact. I bet many play with these types of people and don't pay attention, hence all of the complaints.

 

If he had an N7 of at least 120, decent challenge points, decent weapon, they are fine without one time use consumables. Of course there is a chance they will be bad also, but the chance is extremely low. If you have at least 2 of these guys in the lobby your run will go smoothly. Even if they don't put consumables on it won't change that fact.

 

Short answer: Pay attention to who comes in your lobby, if 2/3 of them looks decent based on what I said above, you only have to carry that one guy with the 2 medigels.

I know these guys. N7 way beyond 120 N7, using a banner, one of the more OP kits and generally a reasonably powerful and leveled-up weapon. No consumables.

 

The majority of the time they show pathetic effort. They go down but they don't get up. They only use rockets during extraction. And still score dead last.

If they used OP kits and a reasonably leveled weapon its because they was lazy or plain bad, it wasn't the consumables. I've seen the same performance from high N7's with consumables and OP kits.
