Why is the guy with no consumables always the first to ready up?

All this talk about people not using consumables or, during the game, gels/rockets/ops or whatever...

It's ridiculous in a way that not all people will get all the luck unlocking all the supplies+1 gear, you know. I mean, I've been playing around 116 hours and so far I've unlocked only 4 ammo replenisher, 5 survival ops, 3 rockets (Bahhhhh), and 2 medi-gel (super bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh). It is not unimaginable to think someone doesn't have all the upgrades, or even at all, even if they have reasonable high N7 or challenge points.

That's why I never judge when people not using their rockets or gels; hey, it's easy to be angry when you think *everyone* and their moms have 6 ammo, 6 survival ops, 6 rockets, and 6 medigels, but some of us are just not that lucky.

It's one of my biggest deterrent of trying gold, actually, except for a few match here and there. I am positive people would judge me if I don't use rockets/gels in gameplay even if I ran out of them during emergencies.

Well, I think that most people would judge you for other reasons, like not helping with the objectives, nuking at the wrong time or dying on the other side of the map and expecting someone to come revive you. And if you read the threads here, it's more likely that they will judge you if you use a TGI or an AIU and spam their defensive grenade stuff.

Also, may I suggest that you buy Spectre Packs? I don't know if it's me or the RNG, but I hit 31 hours today and I have 3 cap on Thermal, 5 on Medi-Gel, 6 on Cobras and 4 on Ops, most of which upgrades I got from Spectres.

Hmmm. I usually rotate buying PSP, AP, and RP, and I rarely touched SP.

Maybe I should try doing it... It's been hell so far having only 2 medigels and 3 rockets when trying anything above Silver.... I am so jealous of you, hahaha.

And I heavily favor classes that don't use thermal clips much too, like the biotics or N7 Shadow (my new favorite). Well, at least that 5 survival ops can be helpful, although there have been many times due to lag where I press right and it was only activated right when I kissed the floor, and yes the amount have been reduced as well >___> Gah.

If you have even just 2 you should be willing to spend 2 is my opinion. If you don't need them the whole game that is all well and good, but if you are willing to risk a wipe just because you are stingy you are a bad teammate plain and simple. I personally DGAF since I don't need the credits at all, but it is reasonable that someone could get frustrated using everything they can to try to make it to extraction when no one else is willing to put in the same effort or even worse spends things like missiles/gels on extraction when they didn't help on objectives and risked the whole game doing so. I don't care how someone uses them or how many they use before wave 11, I am just happy if they use them at all as it shows investment in the game.

Example: I was playing with 3 friends the other day and someone had no gels at all for the 2 games they were with us. That is no bueno to come into a gold game with no gels expecting a free ride. Especially when you go off on your own at the start of a hack on wave 6 and bleed out while everyone else is standing in the hack. That said, it wasn't the biggest deal to me, but to put that kind of stuff on 3 strangers is unfair and sometimes it can be 3 people doing things like that leaving 1 person to try and carry the whole game which can make things not so fun. I definitely won't accept a friend request from someone like that like that particular example sent to me, but I personally won't kick them from a game either.

Doesn't matter. Please, do use what you have, even if it's not much. It shows dedication. And get Spectre Packs for more. Personally I took them in order of value. Commons with Recruits first, Uncommons with Veterans and now I am doing rares with Spectres. I have what I need to play, even though I can't go all MLG in there.

Oh I do always try to use gels or rockets, especially when that stupid drone decides so nonchalantly to wade through a horde of Praetorians and Scions. Or when Hackett screams to my ear "DON'T EXIT THE HACK ZONE" while he sips in coffee watching various Brutes and Phantoms and Banshees crashing in the party :( I got the feeling he screamed that order while he's playing Galaga on some other monitor.

The simple answer is "stick with someone but not in their faces".

Months back i had a N50+ HE and a Drell vanguard N1500+ on gold/reactor/something (UUG). The drell charged suicidally, died then bled out repeatedly. The N50 stayed close by, not directly near me (which would block dodges and catch AoEs) but within 10m so i could easily run over and revive him when he dropped. He medigelled when he thought he was going to get stomped and played defensively, using hard cover.

He used his 2 missiles (didn't catch a lot of enemies but he used them and not on wave 11). He obviously had nowhere near 6 medigel but in the end, he extracted, drell died (no surprise) and he scored 3rd as his damage sucked but was the match's MVP from my point of view.

That was a masterclass on how to play when you have 2 medigel and consumables.

:) Well, it's nice to have a nice guy like you around helping those less fortunate; and I mean that. Some folks will so readily yell at you/kick you out if you hang around them often--I usually hover nearby but not too nearby as well, for fear that the person nearest will find me disruptive.

Maybe I should try Gold more often. On my last try last night my team lasted only through Wave 7; no surprise considering the rest of team was like level 13/17 or something with a Juggernaut carrying, IIRC, Revenant 1, hahaha. Still, a fun game.

Oh i'm furthest thing from a nice guy. I troll the hell out of people who never medigel or don't do objectives if i'm not in a mood to carry. If however, i see someone trying with common sense, i try to get him/her to the finish line. So far i have seen just 3 people less than 100 n7 do that, a QFI, a Pheonix Vanguard and the HE.

Are your common / uncommon weapons maxed out? Until then, recruit packs (until common weapons are maxed) and then veteran packs are your best friends. You also get the important weapon mods and permanent gear items faster this way, otherwise they have to be unlocked painfully slow by the expensive packs, blocking other slots. After that, spectre packs holds the best value. There is a good chance that you get two gold cards out of them anyway and you need to buy less jumbos to replenish your consumables. The 99K packs only make sense if you're able to extract from platinum on a regular basis and/or your rares are maxed :)

The key here is the amount of consumables and equipment you're getting by this strategy without having to resort to JEP's too often.

i find it stupid that people think it's some kind of prerequisite to always use consumables...

I find it stupid that people always generalise when it comes down to not use consumables.

I find it stupid that people not willing to use consumables "because of the challenge" still use the permanent gear item and weapon mods.

I find it stupid to say gold is easy when in fact for the vast majority of the playerbase it isn't - and if your teammates die early on wave 10 geth/london central hack you will see how easy it really is.

I find it stupid that always someone claims that gold is too easy, acting like he's a badass but starts whining at the pure thought of having to deal with platinum pug's.

I find it stupid that even if someone with 2000 hrs of gameplay and lvl 10 UR's refuses to use consumables on gold still thinks that a newbie wouldn't benefit from them.

I find it stupid that some people think consumables are only good for making sure too extract hence veterans must be scrubs if they still use them - when in fact there are many other reason for the use of consumables.

I find it stupid that the obvious leecher is (almost) always the first to ready up, not paying attention to his potential teammates - with the "if others use/waste their stuff (because of me) and we make it - good, if we didn't make it I've lost nothing" attitude.

not sure if your are berating me with this post or not.

I usually use consumables, but sometimes I'm too lazy and/or couldn't be bothered. Sometimes I only use one or two, rather than all 3. And when I see someone not use any, I don't particularly care, one way or the other.

I think people read way too much into it: oh, this person is leaching; or oh, this person is overconfident.

Maybe it's just not all that important, and people shouldn't get so bent out of shape about something in this game that comes as an option.

If you can't accept someone not using consumables, then leave the lobby - it's you being the one with prejudice; not the person choosing not to use them. Or, if you feel so bothered by it, you should message that player and tell them to slap on some equipment.

Or you cant mind your own business, quite your crying, and play the game. To each his own.

I apologize since this is technically off-topic; yes I have maxed common and uncommon weaponry as well as all common/uncommon characters--with the single exception of Male Adept which is only 2 out of 5--and mods in the common category. The only completed uncommon mod for me is Sniper Rifle Assault Barrel, however, and in terms of gear in the uncommon section I only have Hydraulic Jaunts, Assault Rifle Amp, and Shield Booster completed.

So hmm, what do you or anyone else here think on packs that I should focus on? Nowadays I alternate between PSP, Arsenal, and Reserves... but it's taking 4 games in general for me to buy one since I hesitate joining in Gold due to my lack of medi-gel/rockets capacity (though I do manage to perform rather well, considering, using N7 shadow on my last Gold try---only bit the ground when everyone else already dead, hahaha.)

I am not too sure about how to link my manifest, but I guess this is how?

http://social.biowar...na&platform=ps3

Again, I apologize, people, for the off-topic post.

Well, it's not really off topic, because with a clever shopping strategy and some common sense you can avoid to be the one described in the title ;)

OniGanon once said that you should only buy packs that you can afford after playing a match. So for you as a silver player that would be veteran packs - but as you've already maxed out your uncommon weapons that wouldn't make sense. So regular spectre packs are the way to go for you. I would recommend to stick to them until you can extract from platinum on a regular basis or your rare items are mostly maxed. It will speed up your manifest in every way: You get more gels, rockets etc out of them. You get more equipment out of them. All these consumables will help you to make sure you extract more often and will make the games go faster. Faster games = faster credits. You have to invest something to get the most out of the situation.

Make friends that will help you to make the transition to gold and later platinum. A good start would be looking here on the BSN, there are some awesome PS3 players around here that might lend a hand :)

Understood, thank you for the advice :) I was thinking that I *maybe* just stick to the Veteran packs to better max out the uncommon mods, but buying an SP for every two games is alright for me in terms of time = reward ratio.

Also, I live in Indonesia which is like, 12 hours difference to the US so it would probably be way too bothersome for the regular BSNers, which I assume mostly Americans, to help/play with me. Ah well, Pugging has its own charms, hahaha.

Thats a strong manifest. You have a lot of characters unlocked and an AR 4 piercing mod along with mattock X. Slap that onto a power based kit like your quarian male engineer or a weapons based kit like your quarian male infiltrator with your grenade cap 1 and you're good to go on gold (also thermal clips replenish grenades and ammo so your 255 clips can be used).

The shadow is pretty slow to kill but it helps with learning aggro mechanics. Classes like GE and SE requires some overt tactical thinking so use those when you want to train up when/where to throw your powers. Ask around or look up the forum search to find threads discussing the reasoning, pros and cons of each class build then use that knowledge to make a build that suits YOUR playstyle. Juggernaut isn't really recommended when just starting out on gold as you need a certain level of awareness, target prioritization and tactical movement/power deployment to not be a juggernaut you see in PuGs dropping to 2 cannibals and a husk.

Also there are builds made around a less used consumable like the cyro-ammo human soldier. That will let you shift usage from a single consumable type to the consumable you have the most of, at least until your comfortable with buying some JEPs (10 items including guaranteed 5 of medigel/rockets/etc). Once you get into using JEPs, you will have level 1 to 3 consumables coming out of your ears

First, veteran packs won't max your uncommon mods and gear, for that you need Spectre Packs. They also seem most likely to drop +1 cards for your gel/opspacks/rockets/thermal clips if the vet packs haven't given those already.

Second, not everyone playing ME3 is American, there seems to be a large enough pool of players that all timezones are quite well covered.

You have stated in a very tidy nutshell why the subject of this thread should be a non-issue. Consumables are so easy to come by that there's no reason not to use them except lassitude.

Once you get into using JEPs, you will have level 1 to 3 consumables coming out of your ears

Wow, thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it :)

I am not really a score-chaser so I don't really mind that the Shadow is a slow killer--it just feels *sooooo niiiiiiiiice* when you one-hit-kill Dragoons and Phantoms even if they have full armors/barriers, you know? Hahahaha. I am now kind of addicted on using her.

Ah, good to know. I thought since the description on the Veteran said it can unlock Uncommon stuff then it can also unlock Uncommon mods and gears.

As for the 2nd paragraph, yes it's true I suppose---I even joined the good folks of ASF and they have been helping me two or three times, which is nice :)

Anyways, thank you for all the awesome answers and support, guys! I *always* play this game every night, it seems such a waste that I was introduced to the MP so late instead on its heyday, but I am grateful nonetheless for the fun experience :)

Just to avoid confusion, they do unlock them - until your common weapons are maxed. Now that you've maxed them, there will be nothing worthwile in veteran packs anymore so it's time to move on to spectre packs.

Apart from shotgun amps. They're never enough.
