You people are scaring me. The only time I have bought extensions was for Gates of Oblivion and they added HUGE amounts of playing time. But GoO is from another company. Has anybody played Neverwinter Nights and their extensions? How did Bioware handle them? I fully expected the Awakenings expansion to be as long as DA:O.
The expansions to NwN were substantially smaller than the original campaign, as I am sure Awakening will be susbstantially smaller than DAO. I expect about half the content, which is the norm for expansions. I've yet to play an expansion that is even 75% as large as the original.

Hmmm. just because I pay for it dosn't guarantee it'll be quality though, does it?
Has Bioware failed to deliver quality thus far? It is reasonable to expect the same in the expansion. We have a lot of history to look back upon to justify it.
Yes, they have. Unless you don't consider charging $5-$15 for 30 minutes worth of bland DLC content a failure of quality. I'll give them credit for their sly marketing strategies though. Ever since EA jumped on board, the scum baggery has gone up a few notches. It's what EA is famous for. . .
The quality was still there and it fit into the official campaign seamlessly. You just dont like the price they were asking for the DLC. You have two options, get used to it or move on to a new hobby. DLC and its pricing is here to stay.
With fanboy sheep like yourself grazing around the forums spitting in the face of anyone with a legitimate criticism, i'm sure they will, as you said, continue to charge $7.00 for 20 minutes of uninteresting sidequest with the gimmick of getting an overpowered sword. I have no doubt you'll obey your masters at Bioware and EA, gobbling up every piece of over-priced side content they can fit down your gullet. Contrary to your irrational conclusion, the money itself is not the issue for me. I'm not poor by any means. I could afford to pay $20.00 for a hamburger but that doesn't mean I'm going to buy it (unless, of course, it's one amazing hamburger -- sadly the DAO DLC isn't that good).

Sure, I see many here talks about "DLC", of course 40 dollars for an big DLC is too waaay expensive but this is an fullfledged expansion. Isn´t 40 dollars an normal price?
Then Bioware has stated their expansion is bigger than many other games.
So please, don´t only say "overpriced, far too expensive, no way". Instead, argument why you thinks it´s too expensive.
Isn´t 40 dollars an normal pricing for an expansion in US? In comparison, what was the retail cost for DA(not now two months later).
For 40 dollars, what do you want be in Awakening and how many gamehours?
What is an good pricing for you?
(sorry for my bad english if anyone complaints

I must ask you who thinks it´s too expensive. It´s 40 dollars who are roughly 300 swedish kronor. Which is an fully normal price for an expansion here in Sweden. Then what is the normal pricing for an expansion in US? 20 dollars or what?

Part of the problem is that Black Friday falls in November in the US (and Canada have a sales bonanza as well even though theirs is in October) and it is usually the time for huge discounts and deals on games - even new titles. There are lots of trade deals etc as well. And this can often last until Christmas
So people bought it for cheaper than retail, but it then rose back up. So, at release it was $60 pc, $70 ps3 and $70 on xbox 360 (all CDN). The problem is the site I am using doesn't always have all info. they reckon lowest prices in Nov/Dec were $46 for pc, still $70 for ps3 and $65 would xbox 360, but I know I saw all 3 versions at $40 around Black Friday which is potentially when lots of people picked it up. The scales don't tend to incorporate like a 3 day price war.
Pc is now around $45 but got down to $30 based on their graphs. PS3 stayed at $70 but is now $50 - lowest $40. xbox 360 around $50 but got down to $40. I think the cheapest price I absolutely remember seeing was like #$30 for the 360 version at one store during the sales blitz.

Luckily the retailstores doesn´t compare it the same thing. They follow the value of swedish kronor.

40 dollars for a expansion is not expensive. If you think games are expensive in the U.S, you should compare it to our prices (Finland), the awakening costs 65 euros (that's over 90 dollars) here... That's way over the price of a new full game...
The average price of new PC-games are about 50-60 euros here. Xbox and PS3 games are averaging 60-70 euros. The gasoline costs 1,5 euros/litre. And how's that to do with anything, I dont' know :-D
Anyhow, the awakening is going to be a quite large expansion, so it'll definately be worth your money. Trust me, I know :-)

I´ve always thought due to Sweden´and Finlands intimate history (still many finnish who speaks swedish and many finnish who lives in sweden) that the pricing almost was equal. Oh my. Then if in the future Sweden wants to join the league of euro then i will vote against it!
MprezdNZ. I understand. Here in sweden an PC game roughly costs between 400-500 swedish kronor (cirka 40-50 euro) and an expansion is normally cost between 250-300 kronor (cirka 25-30 euro). But we don´t have days like the Black Friday. You really should think what an game normally costs in US before you starts to complaints about the pricing but I can understand your point. Not always easy to think what it normally costs when you buy it at an discount and then the expansion costs the equal...

I think everyone is fixated on the length of the expansion. Since when did gaming become about length? Shouldn't it be about enjoying the experience?
Yeah, it's not what you got but the way that you use it!

Holymalony
You need to check out this thing called Steam.
Why pay 65 euros, when you can pre-buy it now for 30 euros. (well, you also need the steam version of Origin to use it, so I guess it won't work, but in the long run, Dragon Age two and all that)

Let's take it to the extreme. Will you pay $40 for an expansion that would give you 10 minutes worth of play? Like, traveling to this location in Feralden that will look *ABSOLUTELY* gorgeous, BioWare artists having poured their lives in creating that location for months on end..? Where you can then do a 5 minute puzzle quest and retrieve this grand <fill in godly item> or, hear this epic, extremely well written story written by David on one of his best days, from this NPC in this awesome location.. and then well.. be done?
People that ignore and or downplay the value of gameplay length only do so for convenience of their own agendas. Nobody's going to pay for a piece of game that lasts 10 minutes. Or a book with 5 pages. Or a movieclip that is 5 minutes in length. Don't kid yourselves folks.

Holy ****, Knee. Do you mean the PC version or are you talking about the consoles?

I think the price was the same for PC and consoles, but I can't be sure. I almost had an heart attack when I saw that pricing so I kinda quickly shut the page down.
And yes, I know steam. I had it once, absolutely hated it. I want to play games offline and not be dependant on some other application to run my games. I know there is offline option, but still...
That brings me up to my question though. I asked this somewhere else, but no-one answered. So I'll ask it again, since it's almost on topic.
So, If I buy digital version of awakening, will I be able to install it, since I have the retail version (You know, the physical one, which you can hold and hug and kiss and...well....) and doesn't those digital version require somekind on program? I'm totally newbie in this digital stuff... (Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I prefer the physica copy, since it looks nice on the shelf). But I'm not that crazy to pay 65e for a game that I can get for 27e (EA store has this pre-order price)...

My gf and I have had hours and hours of addicted entertainment value from this title. Though, we do not play the game like we a taking a test with a time limit, all the little distractions are factored in... I'm not sure that I'd have the patience to rush through the game, no offense intended.

The publisher and developers will price the game or expansion at a point where it will cover costs and make a profit. If the price is too high wait until it comes down or enters the bargain bin.
