How can people support season passes? They're like the most anti-consumer thing on the planet. Pay for content weeks/months/uptoayear before release with no recourse if the content is sub-par. (See: Borderlands 2)

I agree with Deflagrtio. Since there is no incentive to deliver if the season pass has already been paid for.

We know that. If they already have your money they have less reason to make something good. If you have to sell something on its merits, then it will need to be better, get that?

It's no different. Buying the Season Pass is like buying all the DLC at once, thus they need to sell all the DLC on its merits. They can make indidual DLC terrible even if you buy it by itself since you won't know until after you paid for it.

That's only true if you are there the second the DLC comes out. Otherwise word gets around very fast about just how good/bad it is and what it contains.

Again, same with the Season Pass. When the next game comes out, nobody will buy it because they got stung last time. So it is in the company's best interests to make the DLC good for future DLC sales regardless if people by them one by one or as a packaged deal.

If that was the case do you think anyone would be against the idea ? The very fact that people are against them is because what you said is just not true in reality.

There is also the issue of getting DLC that you just don't want too. Unless you are going to lap up everything unseen, then a season pass rarely pays for itself.

I think the Inquisitor's Edition should include something like that, for its price.

People are against the idea of DLC too, so I don't see your point. If it wasn't successful, companies wouldn't do it. It's that simple.

That does not make it a good thing for the people suckered into buying them.

People are against the idea of DLC that comes out the same day as the game, especially when it's already on the disk. I don't know anyone who is against the principle of DLC although there probably are some.

There are many people who are against the idea of DLC period. I've heard more people be for 'No DLC' than 'No Season Passes'(not counting said No DLC people of course :P).

Also, since Borderlands 2 was mentioned, a season pass does not mean you will get all the DLC released as Take 2 did release DLC for Borderlands 2 that was not made a part of the season pass which meant even though you paid up front and showed loyalty you still ended up paying more later on.

Also, as people said, some DLC may be items or missions you do not want if the quality is not up to standards or,worse, it gives items that are overpowered and either break the game difficulty or cause an issue with the game itself (there are 2 DLC packs for Saints Row 3 that actually cause glitches in the game preventing the user from performing some basic combat moves or just ruin the game difficulty so bad that they were excluded from the complete edition of the game... plus if Steam auto-installs you are stuck)

DLC and day1 DLC are very different things.

I know. Where did I say different? I specified that I have seen many people be against DLC period, as in it should not exist at all ever.

That makes no sense since the DLC won't exist at the time the game is released. Day 1 DLC is a different matter, it's companies (especially EA) taking stuff off the disk to sell either as part of a more expensive collector pack, or for extra ££.

Got some links to people against DLC period?

I can say the same about those against Season Passes. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Simple solution for simple problem.

Does not alter the principle of what Deflagratio was saying.

All I'm saying is Season Pass asks you to surrender a lot of your power in the consumer-producer relationship for almost no gain.

buying a season pass for Bioshock infinite worked out to be cheaper than buying all the DLC's seperatelt.

Although I think before there is a discussion about season passes, everyone should ask that the DLC's not be priced in bioware points.

I don't get Season Passes because the majority of the games that have them, that I play, have more multiplayer DLC then single player.  I have no desire for multiplayer, and therefore see no reason to pay money up front so I can get any and all extra maps or reskins or anything else they might have, without the season pass I get to pick and choose what I want.

you buy season pass and you get future DLCs for free..

Also, no you don't.  You get nothing for free, you've already paid for the DLC, you just get them without having to pay for them again.

I'm sorry but that is nonsense. How is it anti consumer to give people the option to buy in bulk? I mean in the 90s you had to spend 30-40 dollars on an expansion...what if you only like 1/4 of it? A season pass lets me save money.

If it is a company you trust. then why not? I'm going to buy all the bioware dlc anyway, why not spend less money on it.

I'm torn on this, because I view season passes as the corporate version of killing babies, but the only time I've purchased one was for borderlands 2 and I considered it well worth the money. And I know I'll purchase any (major) DLC that bioware throws my way, so there's that as well.
