Do you find this is worth the cost of upkeep on a pure caster? It sounds intriguing but it the effect isn't noticeable, I'm not sure I'll bother picking it up.
Spell Wisp: worth it?

Thank you. I'm trying to narrow down what my last spellchoices will be (I like to plan characters ahead :
so this is really helpful advice.
EDIT: I'll probably be playing on Easy to just experience the story again and to be able to take companions for RP value rather than a balanced group; any thoughts on which of the entropy lines you'd take in this situation?

...many mage players will say that the most powerful mages are created by increasing your spellpower to the highest possible value, that way your spells are more likely to have the desired effect!
The bonus to spellpower you get from spellwisp is (100+spellpower)*0.05 with an upkeep of 30
This is a pretty heavy upkeep if you are a Magic based mage. However if you have been investing in Willpower aswell, then it's definately worth it!
I prefer a significant investment in Willpower to allow such spells as Spellwisp (as well as the Arcane Mastery talent) to boost my spellpower. 20 spellpower will give a +6 increase to spellpower so with Willpower increasing mana by 5 points per point invested, you only have to have a spellpower of 20 to mitigate the investment of 6 attribute points into WIllpower instead of Magic top cover the upkeep for Spellwisp...if that makes any sense!!!
...so in my opinion, it's easily worth spending 6 points into Willpower to cover the upkeep costs of Spellwisp to have it persistently active...

Thanks for the hard numbers krsboss!
I also edited this in but I'll repost here in case it got missed:

Similarly...is Arcane Mastery worth it if I already intend to go up to at least the shield in that line anyhow?

Arcane Mastery I believe gives +5 spellpower so I think it's worth it.
I never really have used Spell Wisp or Spell Might all that much. Imo I wouldn't bother with it. I have never really seen the benefit from it with the loss of mana. For the Entropy lines, I'd grab Sleep line for sure and either Hexes for support or Draining line for self healing and AoE spell.

Personally I only pick up that line for Grease.

I decided to do a bit of analysis,
A couple of examples:
If your char has 60 spellpower then wisp will give you 8 extra spellpower ((100+60)*0.05), at the cost of 30 upkeep and 5% fatigue.
If you took 8 points off willpower and added it to magic instead you'd be sacrificing 40 extra mana to gain those 8 points of spellpower, but you wouldn't be paying the 5% fatigue.
The 5% fatigue is worse than the extra 10 mana unless you have less than 200 total mana, since having all your spells cost 5% more mana is equivelent of having 5% less mana, 5% of 200 = 10.
In this case spell wisp is definitely NOT worth it.
Second case, if your char has a spellpower of 100. Wisp will give you an extra 10 spellpower at the cost of 30 upkeep and 5% fatigue.
Taking 10 points out of willpower and putting them in magic will cost you 50 mana.
In this case the tradeoff is 20 mana versus 5% fatigue. In other words if your character has less than 400 mana then the spell will debatably be beneficial compared to just putting the points in magic instead of willpower.
There is another factor though which I haven't talked about, that is that putting points in magic will also give you better results from drinking potions - this is pretty important for me since I find myself using mana potions quite a bit.
So MAYBE spell wisp is better IF you are running a very high spellpower (100+) coupled with a relatively low mana pool. Either way the benefit is debatable because you're sacrificing a talent point AND the potential for better potion effects.
