I currently have a run with a solo dwarven fighter. He's going to do an evil route in hell to become evil so he can use the Flesh Armor. I can get to 95% magic resistance by doing the following:

Flesh Armor (20%) + sword of balduran (10%) + Gaxx Ring (10%) + Amulet of 5% Magic Resistance + potion of magic protection = 95%. I need an item that is NOT in Watcher's Keep and before ToB. The Amulet of Seldarine would be perfect but can't get that until defeating Irenicus, but need it for Ireincus.

Irenicus is fond of mazes and that might end my run if I can't get 100% resistance. I think there is a hell trial that adds magic resistance too, anyone know which one that is, and how much resistance it adds?

+10 % resistance to magic if you choose the GOOD option in the selfishness trial (sacrifice for a companion).

Why not buy the 10% amulet from the drow city?  There's also the option of using the shield you get in Umar.  Most fighters would want to behave aggressively towards Sarevok anyway as +2 strength is likely to be far more useful than wisdom and charisma.

Vanilla fighter? A berzerker would sort this out with no gear at all? A barbarian too, but then you'd lose the sweet 5* in long swords.

Well if you're set on a straight fighter, the 10% amulet from the drow merchant replaces the 5% amulet nicely. Plus Maze is touch range, so you could just try to stay out of range, but probably not no-reload, one timestop chould send you back to candlekeep.

Hell trials are as follows:

Fear:  Good:  Immunity to +1 or lower weapons
Fear:  Evil:  +2 CON, Cloak of Bravery

Greed: Good:  +2 saving throws, +20k XP
Greed: Evil:  +15 HP, Blackrazor, +11k XP (genie)

Pride: Good:  +20% Fire/Cold/Elec Resistance
Pride: Evil:  +200k XP, +22k XP (dragon), loot

Self:  Good:  +10% Magic Resistance, -2 HP, -1 DEX, -75k XP
Self:  Evil:  -2 AC

Wrath: Good:  +1 WIS, +1 CHA
Wrath: Evil:  +2 STR, +1 primary stat (bug, probably fixed)

So, my resistance shopping list is as follows:

Pride & Selfish Good
Fear, Greed, & Wrath evil

Barbarian class : +20% physical (Innate)
Hardiness HLA : +40% physical (20 rounds)

Flail Easthaven : +20% physical (off hand)
Sword Balduran : 10% magic

Helm Roranach : +50% blunt (Gromnir)
Helm Dragon/Rock : +25% elemental

Ring of Fire : +50% fire
Ring gaxx : +10% Magic, 100% poison/disease

Cloak Mirror : spell deflection
Cloak Reflection : 100% Electricity

Boots Speed : Movement speed
Boots Cold : +50% cold
Boots Electricity : +50% Electricity

Inertial belt : +50% magic damage, +25% missile

Amulet Kaligun/Seldarine : +10% magic

Gauntlets Extra : +1/2 attack, +1 THACO, +2 Damage

Armor Red Dragon : +50% fire
Armor White Dragon : +50% cold
Armor Shadow Dragon : +50% Acid
Armor Flesh : 20% magic

With these items you can get your resistances to:

Fire: 145%
Cold: 145%
Electricity: 150%
Acid: 75%
Poison/Disease: 100%
Magic Damage: 50%
Magic: 60%
Slashing: 80%
Piercing: 80%
Crushing: 130%
Missile: 105%

As far as weapons go, 5* in long swords will get you pretty far, with an eye on Blackrazor in ToB, and the rest of your * in maces, flails, & axes will allow you to use the improved mace of disruption against undead & golems, the flails of ages & easthaven against mages & golems, and either Azureedge or Rifthome as your ranged weapon, with an option on Axe of the Unyielding in your off hand in ToB.
