This month's challenge is "Artifacts and Relics":
 

Unique items from legend and lore, of great power and/or cultural importance.


This theme was suggested by Carcerian.

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine.  Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • "Custom Content" includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by July 1st, 2014. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie). Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I'm horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.

Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

<poking the dwarf...>

 

I'll be getting Cestus to build the "Broken Arches" of Arrowhead (which are neither broken nor arches, but *what* they are is rather well forgotten, except that they are quite important to Amethyst...).

These 17 ancient pylons form a perfect circle over 3 klicks in radius centered on Castle White (the centroid of the three thrones in the throne room, to be exact).

 

They are over 30m tall and inscribed with odd runes and patterns, constructed of strange metals and porcelain.

They tend to glow at odd times... And magic goes awry around them.

 

These will be large architectural placeables with anims.

 

I may get some more work done on Red Mercy or Scarlet Rage as well... we'll see.

What's the official word on bring imports in for the challenge? Allowed, or original work only? There's a few things I see that would fit for this month.

I say original works, or original works inspired by existing works (or even Frankensteined together from bits and pieces to make something completely new).  The CCC has always been about challenging us to make new things.

I made some artifact items in my module, but they are heavily dependant on a specific NWNX plugins or a feature of my unofficial patch or other content such as new itemproperties. Not a very good content for the challenge imo. I will see if I have some prefabs that uses vanilla only itemproperties but no promises. PS. they are all custom madeups.

 

BTW. In this challenge a fine submission would be even an artifact item description. I made a several artifacts for my module (in terms of item power) but I am really bad in a story behind so they didn't had any description.

What about some cursed items, in the style of those from Baldur's Gate games, for example "the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity"'?

Rolo has already done a bunch of work on Baba's hut. Might be interesting to see a team effort on that one.

It walks, it does emotes, it sits in a chair - the amazing Baba Yaga's Hut!! It even does ninjitsu!!

I imported the basic a_ba animations into the model. Aside from a few clipping issues, so far so good. It has the fully range of animations from that supermodel and can execute 90% of them without any notable issues.

 

I've seen lots of incarnation of this model over the years, but I don't think any of them came close to getting the full range of animations completed. From what I saw they mostly just walked around and looked pretty.

Something to consider with doors and windows however is that when it is walking around they should probably be invisible - not displayed. Then if it can sit down on the ground, they would appear… although maybe you spawn a placeable in its place for that and destroy the creature.

The window on the creature will be shuttered. On the placeable version the window will not be shuttered. I've still got to work out exactly how its going to transition from creature to plc - as far as what triggers the transformation.

Maybe the best way to do this is to have a special animation in which the house settles to the ground. Perhaps its the disappear animation. The animation should take a precise amount of time. That way when you call it you have say "3.0" seconds until you need to spawn the placeable. Could just as likely be one of the creatures custom animations.

You read my mind. I'm going to clone the sit on ground animation, rename it disappear and then extend it to have the hut fully settle into the ground. Once the animation is done, the placeable hut is spawned and the hut creature destroyed. The last step will be cloning the get-up animation to use for the appear animation - the house rises from the ground.

I'm working in the "Sword of Kas"; But I'm not sure about what kind of sword it should be. According to the "Dungeons master Guide" 3.5 Ed it's a long sword. however in the 2nd Ed According to the "book of artifacts" it can be easily wielded with two hands. Also in the 4th Ed it's seem to be a bastard-sword, that would fit better with the 2nd Ed description. So my doubt is between longsword or bastard-sword?
