They also need to STOP THE CLOCK. I saw a lot of Italian players hitting the ground with 'leg cramps'.

Agreed and I'm an Italy supporter.

Something fun I noticed:

the first 80 minutes of the match, when all we needed was the draw, we didn't mind rolling around on the floor, Chiellini took a few dives, etc. But as soon as they scored that one goal? For the last 10 minutes, you'd be hard-pressed to find a single Italian player wasting time. But that's what the game should be about: making plays, not who's the best actor.

Oh, they can do it alright. Whether they should it's another matter entirely. I never really bought into the whole Evra controversy. Personally, I think it was blown out of proportion by the press and by Evra himself.

All Evra did was report to the ref that Suarez was using racially abusive language towards him. Everything after that was on Suarez and Liverpool's behaviour.

Blown out of proportion or not, it's still something that he got a lengthy ban for and yet he is still going around biting people and isn't showing any remorse for his past behaviour. He needs a massive ban.

I'm Uruguayan and, to be fair, Suárez should have received a red card for biting Chiellini.

Karma perhaps? the Italian team constantly cheats... remember the FIFA 2006 headbutt?

It's weird that refs now have mics and other technology but still they can take goals away by flagging "wrong" offsides (Bosnia Hertzegovina - Nigeria for example). Why can't they use video verification for offside situations and call it in refs mic?

btw somehow this came into my mind http://www.youtube.c...h?v=9ukFUEI5qz8

Pirlo is as overrated as Xavi, while being worse.

They both just got old.

Suarez: mmm... Chiellini...

No. His passing and free kicks are still the best.

Pirlo loses the ball too easily under pressing. England scored after him lost the ball.

But the worst part is he's slow and the whole team is slow because of him. Pirlo is like Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi who was a helluva player but completely slowed his team at Euro 2000.

Yeah, that's the part I don't believe. Uruguayan players may be a lot of things but racists isn't one. Not to mention there was no actual evidence of what was said, simply Evra's word against Suarez' and the FA's interpretation of what might have gone down.

In any event, what transpired in this match was pretty clear to me and it deserved a red card. If the FIFA now takes action, Suárez has nobody to blame but himself.

Do you mean Zinedine Zidane's headbutt or another?

No. Suarez is the worst. Period.

BTW about Pirlo and Xavi, old players can't perform the best playing they could offer in their 20s. But filling teams with all young players is a mistake. Like current Belgium.

Yeah, I do remember it. Zidane was provoked but he should've known better being the professional he is (or was rather).

Agreed. Any sport requires a cool head. I'm not defending the Italian player's actions, but I highly doubt that was the only trash-talking performed in a cup. And unfortunately, it's much harder to prove that a player said x, y, or z then it is to prove that you did not explicitly headbutt someone in front of the entire world.

New solution! Microphones across the entire pitch.  :P

There's literally no level of trash-talking that would justify assaulting another player. Putting aside whether or not retaliating is justified, it's just a dumb as **** move to get yourself red carded off the field.

Suarez is clearly not like everyone else, he's mental. You can't compare him to other players, you wouldn't expect Cavani or Forlan to get up to any of the mentalness he gets up to. I'd never expect anyone else from Uruguay or anywhere to get up to anything Suarez gets up to. You're right, I don't know of any other Uruguayan players who have been banned for racially abusing someone, but I also don't know of any other Uruguayans who have repeatedly gnawed on opponents. So clearly Suarez is a very special case.

There was evidence when Suarez admitted what he said, said it's not racist in Uruguay and then denied he said it at all. Suarez undid his entire defense by admitting what he said, if I remember right. I do think the ban was over the top when it was essentially for saying nasty things, considering players got less bans for attempting to break other players legs. But he admitted what he said and in England that's considered racist abuse, he did it at a time when they were trying to crack down on racist abuse and in a massively high profile match. Him and Liverpool's behaviour after that just made things increasingly worse for the whole situation.

Quite simply, he's an absolute moron at best.

I don't agree with the insult that Materazzi directed towards Zidane, if he was provoked on purpose, that could easily have been a defensive tactic that has been used in matches by many European teams and it worked well for the Italians, but it still cheating.

Yeah, Suarez shouldn't have bitten Chiellini. Foolish thing to do in front of a refree.

So to be clear, what was the correct response? How would Zidane being allowed to continue play after that be justified?

Again, trash talk can happen in any sport in any context, especially when tensions run high. You have high stake matches, you have people accidentally getting kicked in the face, which sometimes causes an incident, etc. It's the nature of the beast.

It doesn't make trash talking right, but physical assault is on a whole different level.

What would another "forgiving" player do if he was insulted like that? Agreed, Zidane should have known better than to fall for obvious psyche-out mind games during the finale.

Indeed, last I checked animals weren't allowed to play in most human sports.

Dream comes after sleep. ;)

Yay, 10 points! I wonder what they'll do with Suarez.

So very true.

I'll dream about England winning. Because sometimes dreams trump reality.

Now that I have no anger left to spare for England (that's right guys you are permanently off the hook) I can get angry at Suarez!

Ban the player!

Ban him!

Ban him from the World Cup!

They can't do that though, you can't cheat and then be allowed to keep playing in the tournament you cheated in, then banned afterwards. He needs a massive ban, Cantona got 8 months for kicking a fan, Suarez deserves more as this is nowhere near the first time he's crossed the line:

  • Biting while playing for Ajax
  • Racially abusing Patrice Evra
  • Biting Ivanovic
  • Biting Chiellini

Those are just the things he's actually been punished for, they don't take into account his lies over the whole Evra thing or his failure to apologise or show any sort of remorse. There's also his constant attempts at injuring opponents that he's gotten away with, look at his horror tackles on youtube, he's genuinely trying to hurt and injure people. He needs a huge ban, at least 8 months and de-fanged.

This player needs to go to prison! Prison and the permanent ban!

He is a danger to other players.

He is a danger to the fans.

He is a danger to society as a whole.

He also makes all footballers worldwide look bad.

Footballers get enough stick for being "entitled thugs" as it is.

FIFA needs to show the world that football can be a civilised game where bad behaviour is not tolerated.

Make a stand FIFA and protect our game!

Pirlo's passing is nothing compared to Xavi's.

Freekicks, yeah, he's better.

But passing? Not a chance. Xavi is like- the master of passing.

I'd also argue Iniesta passes better than Pirlo.

Meh. Let's just say to agree to disagree.
