Spain got rekt.
Diego Costa was absolutely horrible. Xavi and Iniesta had some brilliant passes that were wasted.
Then Van Persie's freak goal happened ( seriously what was Casillas doing... ) and it all went to ****.

Looks like the end of Casillas's career, tbh. I got my first two predictions spot on, at 1-1, it looked like 3 in a row but then er, the 2nd half happened...
Got to feel for the Aussies, they tried so hard but fell just short.
The Dutch could go far in this tournament, they are both skillful and ruthless.
I can see Spain completely imploding now, ala France in 2010.

RVP's goal of the tournament, in GIF form.

♫ A coat of orange or a coat of black, our lions still have claws. ♫
Indeed we have.
Damn that was one of the greatest national games in years!! (for a big part because nobody saw this coming
)
We jumped off our seats when Van Persie scored that amazing 1-1. We all hoped they would hang on to it and grab the one point. Then they scored the 2-1 and the 3, 4, 5-1.. After each goal everyone was out in the streets/gardens/balconies celebrating here and after the match a surprisingly large number of people remembered they still had some fireworks stored ![]()
Spain was decent in the first half but never really impressed. Costa really doesn't fit in the Barca style of football the Spanish play and Iniesta was the only one that really impressed. The penalty was no penalty, Costa made an extra effort to step on the foot of De Vrij to fall down and he should have a red card after that headbutt.
The second half was just for The Netherlands. Van Persie and Sneijder finally showed themselves and Blind and Vlaar played really well.
Mexico-Cameroon was laughable, Not one but two wrongly cancelled goals... I'm glad they still won or we would have the next riot on our hands.
I didn't see Chile - Australia (since I was still celebrating the Dutch win
) but it looks like Australia really put up a good fight
And the number of leaders has been reduced to 2: Druss and bFootball.
However there are more interesting statistics: Gratz to Beerfish and Sjpelke to be the only ones who predicted a Dutch win and another special mention for Sjpelke to be the only one who predicted the correct winner in every match so far!

Australia put up a very good game and made Chile actually look quite stale for long periods of the game. Can easily see them being a real bother for both Spain and Netherlands if not taken seriously

Yeah, it seems the Dutch realised that actually playing against the Spanish works better than trying to kick them off the pitch.
With Chile up next I can see Spain failing to progress from the group now. That would be a shame, we wouldn't get to see any more of the goal scoring machine that is Fernando Torres.
When he had that empty net towards the end and had the ball just nicked away from him before he could poke it in...it just felt right. Like it was the natural outcome in that situation. Like a Rooney red card tonight or Gerrard making sure a camera is on him before attempting to be what he thinks a leader is.

Torres and Silva could score but they screwed up too.

I hope Sirigu will play a good match today. He's a good goalkeeper, though he's not Buffon.

Does anyone have a secondary team?
What do I mean?
A secondary team is the other team you support that isn't your home nation.
You always cheer and rally for the secondary team except when they're facing your primary (home nation) team.
I am an England supporter. England is my primary team.
I consider Iran to be my secondary team.
Does anyone else have a secondary support team?

Uruguay
I but I like watching good soccer regardless of who's playing. Years of being an ECB (we never win anything) supporter taught me that.

However, my true secondary team, Serbia, wasn't qualified.

But i like seeing good soccer in general. The club I support (AS Roma) isn't a team who wins that often.

I don't support any international teams. I'd like to see the Dutch and Japanese do well this year though. I do enjoy watching teams beat England though.

Used to be North Korea back in 2010, shame they didn't make it. An online sports magazine ran blogs for each team, and some of the journalist made a hillarious, over the top, in-character as propagandist one for North Korea. I couldn't help myself, I dig dark humor, that blog was brilliant.

Besides The Netherlands I also support Belgium.
They are our nice neighbours (especially here in the south of The Netherlands) and they haven't played a big tournament in over 10 years. But this year they have a really good team.
