Let's hope the Germans don't pull a fail like Spain yesterday. I'd be pissed

They might do that just to screw with what's left of my predictions

That red card should've come earlier but at least this incredibly stupid thing got punished

What a stunning result for Costa Rica. Not even a smash and grab either, they were deserving winners. The years really seem to have caught up with Uruguay.

Anyone else think this world cup has already surpassed the whole of South Africa 2010?

well, nice match, but the real big game starts in an hour. Hoping England kicks some ass

Uruguay is really on a bad spot now with Italy and England as remaining opponents in this group stage.

It surpassed it the very first second of the Brazil - Croatia match when I can turn the game on and actually hear something besides a neverending, droning *BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*

I reckon the Italy - England match could be the first with a goal direct from a freekick.

Did anyone watching it on BBC just see that freakish graphic they had with a tiny Raheem Sterling lurking in the studio? It was kind of terrifying, like some kind of chav goblin.

That was both unexpected and awesome, yay Costa Rica!  :) I had the 3:1 on my list, but for Uruguay. Screw my predictions!

I'm at work and could catch some 6h sleep if I went to bed right now, but there's just no way I'd miss England vs Italy. I should definitely miss out on Cote d'Ivoire vs Japan though, or else I won't get any sleep at all.  =]

Who needs sleep? It's the World Cup, you have another 4 years to sleep after it. I think that Japan - Ivory Coast game could be a good match. Of course now I've said that it will turn out to be awful.

Forza Italia!!

Neither team looks all that impressive defensively, Italy the better team for me though just about. I've liked the look of that Candreva fella whenever he has gotten himself involved.

The last minutes made me more hopeful (we didn't start well my opinion), though our defence suffers too much. Paletta shown that can't play at certain levels.

Totally crazy game, I was not expecting this intensity because of the weather in Manaus (hot and REALLY humid).

My predictions are getting smashed left and right, one suprise always happen but two of this magnitude just in the opening games? I'm thrilled and bring it on! More, more of this!

Yes and no.

I hate Uruguay, but I don't like to be at the bottom of the list of predictors!

I had 1 2.5 hours of sleep and I'm now watching Italy-England (half time). Great match, looking forward for Italy's win. :)

Agreed on our defence. On Candreva, I disagree. Other then his wrong pass lead England to score (though our defence is responsible as well), he kind of failed every pass. He can play better then this.

When England scored that goal against Italy, the physiotherapist decided to get involved in the celebrations.

The physiotherapist is now injured.

At least he had quick access to the magic sponge.

Forget about Candreva, I almost start humping the screen every time Pirlo passes the ball.

He looks a threat though, he's finding the spaces in that triangle between the midfield, fullback and centre back. He looks like he will get himself the chance to produce a goal or assist if he keeps it up. I've so much faith that I've put money on him to score. This will undoubtedly backfire.

Pirlo is like Scholes, he is a joy to watch yet makes everything look so effortless. He makes it look so easy that anyone could do it.

Told you! Candreva with the assist! :D

Come on Italy, hold this now!
