I love aging, bearded Pirlo, probably because he looks legitimately like a Game of Thrones character!
I love him for quotes like this, about Rino Gattuso: “You could see the red mist coming down and he just wasn’t able to hide it. We could tell what was coming and so we’d commandeer all the knives. Gattuso would grab a fork and try to stick it in us.”
Or: “I don’t feel pressure … I don’t give a toss about it. I spent the afternoon of Sunday, 9 July, 2006 in Berlin sleeping and playing the PlayStation. In the evening, I went out and won the World Cup.”
About his penalty in the World Cup final of 2006: "I lifted my eyes to the heavens and asked for help because if God exists, there's no way he's French"

That freekick was brilliant. The casualness of it and it still left Hart completely stranded.

Thank you Italy for giving me some sense of sanity. At least i got the right winner in ONE game.
That free kick though was just precious, can only smile and shake my head. So casual

Well done Italy. Well played.
There's Costa Rica and Uruguay to face.
Maybe we might be able to do this (fingers crossed).
We didn't do spectacularly bad against Italy.

Dang it, one more goal from England and I'd been right once. But noooooo... ![]()
Wait, that means Costa Rica is still leading, doesn't it? At least that's something! ![]()

10 points for me and Arsakes!
Italy looking very assured in the end up. Rooney was utter crap and wasn't subbed, how terribly surprising. I'm in a complete state of shock at that one. I don't recall predicting it at all...Ever...It's not like it keeps happening for club and country...
England weren't too bad, but lacked quality going forward.
The good Balotelli turned up and if he keeps that up then Italy will go far. It also feels like Pirlo has been 35 for decades.

Pirlo is like Scholes, he is a joy to watch yet makes everything look so effortless. He makes it look so easy that anyone could do it.
Here's what Pirlo had to say about Scholes in his autobiography: “The only great English midfielder in my career was Paul Scholes. He had elegance in him. Others were pretenders.”
England - Uruguay is an even bigger game now, I really hope Suarez is fit.

Yeah, Balotelli played a good Match. Prandelli said he trained very well, and he seems in a good state of mind (he got engaged in Brasil), so I hope he'll keep it up.
Pirlo is simply fenomenal.

Scholes was quite the elegant tackler.
They have that same trait that most great players have of always having time and space no matter how hectic the match is. I read a quote from Pirlo giving off that we had Park Ji Sung marking him during a champions league match. He didn't like being man marked one bit.
I'm not sure I'd back Uruguay to win that even with Suarez. They looked dire today.

Yeah, you were rightTold you! Candreva with the assist!
Come on Italy, hold this now!
Mind you, I wasn't saying that he was playing a bad match. He was a constant threat to England's defence. I just know that he can do better in passes and shots then what he was doing in the first half of the game. He made a great assist for Balotelli
I've read that an english journal (Daily Mail) gave 7 to Paletta. I really hope it isn't true. The other votes I've read that the Daily Mail gave were a bit exaggerated in my opinion...but Paletta played a really bad match.

I want extra points for predicting that assist a whole 2 minutes before it happened. ![]()
Candreva very nearly embarrassed Hart with his long range shot in the first half, if you add that to how badly Pirlo embarrassed him with his freekick I think the English might have reason to worry about their keeper...again. I've never rated Hart, if he wasn't English then no one would even talk about him as a good keeper.
I wouldn't pay any attention to what UK papers say about football. They can spend an entire page saying a player had a fantastic match and was the best player on the pitch, then in the ratings section give him a 6 and give other players an 8 or 9. Their ratings and opinions are usually bollocks, just trying to cause a stir and fit whatever agenda they have. It's the UK media that peddle the myth that Rooney is world class.
Great strike by Honda.

I miscalculated Ivory Coast's capability. I forgot about its good players and when I was checking I didn't notice them except the old Drogba. In fact I thought those players belong to another team!

Here's a bit of fun some folk here might enjoy. Pick your greatest world cup XI.
I somehow ended up with a really defensive score even though I chose Cristiano Ronaldo, Zidane, Ronaldo and Bobby Baggio - 5,9,3,6.

Hm, I guess today I'll only be able to watch Argentina vs Bosnia Herzegovina. Maybe the end of France vs Honduras.
