I mean if that "Last Supper" image is anything to go by, then we only have one dwarf companion again and that's Varric. He'll appear alongside the one Qunari companion and two elves. Awakening has been the only installment thus far that has given us two dwarvern companions at a time. At least we can create a dwarf character again, don't get me wrong there but I reckon I'm not alone in wishing for another (and a new) dwarf companion.

It's a shame there's only one Qunari companion too. I think many were expecting to a see a female Qunari to go along with the Iron Bull.

Although this is all invalidated if the "Last Supper" image isn't actually displaying all companions. I mean it hasn't been confirmed that everyone appearing in it would be one so new companions could be revealed. If this is the case then I hope we'll get another dwarf, oh and throw in another Qunari while you're at it Bio. Cheers.

Have you considered the fact that there are WAY more humans than there are dwarves in Thedas? It makes sense that there are more human companions compared to dwarven ones. Same goes for Qunari to be fair. The amount of Qunari suitable as a companion is considerably lower than the amount of suitable humans.

I felt the same way but at this point, im just gonna have to deal with it, plus with all the othr content in the game, i'll forget about it sooner or later....even though personally im still confused as to why they wouldnt introduce a female Qunari character in the game that always us to play as one, but it is what it is.

Well.. let's see... that'd make 2 human, 2 elf, 2 dwarf, 2 qunari... and one at will... ...
... naaaa... I'm fine with it, as it is.

But perhaps in one of the next games they reconsider the companion balance [/ironic ] ;)

I'm more concerned with what they can do than who they are.

It makes me sad that, thanks to Oghren and Varric returning, we've only had a total of three full-time dwarf companions in the entire series so far. Not that I don't want Varric back. Heck, I'd take Sigrun as well ...

I don't mind there being fewer dwarves than humans, but so far we've had as many Fade spirits in the party as dwarves, and I imagine those are pretty rare in Thedas too. (I'm counting the one quietly inhabiting Wynne, and assuming that the blond rogue really is Cole.)

I'm with Garrett. The ratio makes sense given the setting. I'm be totally up for a game centred around Par Vollen or the Deep Roads (really, I would), and a bigger influx of Qunari/Dwarven companions respectively. 2 human, 2 dwarf, 2 qunari, 2 elf, (one of each gender, naturally) feels far more formulaic to be natural. Especially as they'll already be 2 gay 2 straight 2 bi, and at-least-2-warrior, at-least-2-mage and at-least-2-rogue.

I'd be totally up for that one qunari being a female though. But it is what it is.

I'm not too worried about it. I like to have a mabari for a companion, but it is what it is.

I think that no female Quanri companions may have more to do with timing. I'm sure the characters were planned way before they knew races would even be in the game at all, and who knows if we would have seen female Qunari (what with their philosophy and all and how males are the most visible abroad).

Also, while I'm all for representation, I think that if the writers genuinely liked Iron Bull as a male, then they should do that. If they start including characters just for the sake of filling slots along the lines of race, gender, ethnicity and so on, it would probably feel fairly strange. They already have to do that with classes.

That would be nice at least for a dwarf player character.

With my dwarf noble alt in DA:O I avoided all the human romances because I think a dwarf-human pairing is kind of weird. I also had him refuse the DR and go the ultimate sacrifice route.

If I played a dwarf alt in DA:I I'd probably have him be forever alone as well.

All in all there probably isn't a huge population of surface dwarves. Those that are are all casteless or merchants, with the rare occasional warrior/noble/smith caste dwarf who was exiled. You also have to take into account that the Dwarves have been going extinct slowly since the Darkspawn appeared, which makes Lady Dwarves on the surface a really rare sight. If your only hope for your people lies with keeping as many ladies around and alive as you can, you'd not be to keen on exiling them or letting them go to the surface as Merchants. Even Sigrun wasn't actually on the surface when you meet her.

As much as I would kill for a Lady Dwarf companion, it's far more likely that they'd be "The Chosen Hero" (aka the Protagonist) type then the Randomly on the Surface to join your crew type.

I will only be angry about there being only one dwarf companion if varric isn't romance-able! and even then I will eventually get over it, like in DA2 I was happy to just to have him around. Varric was always my go to guy for locked chests and good banter! Plus he makes good eye candy to look at lol

(oh and I do miss sigrun, she would make a great companion)

Same goes for Qunari to be fair. The amount of Qunari suitable as a companion is considerably lower than the amount of suitable humans.

That hypothesis doesn't work considering elves, dwarves and Qunari aren't exactly rare in Thedas.

You're speaking as if two elves, Qunari or dwarf companions would be illogical when we're actually going to be visiting their territories in Inquisition so it doesn't matter if more humans inhabit Thedas than other races. It's not a matter of numbers and more or less is to do with Bioware (for whatever reason) deciding to go with more human companions.

So it's design reasons and not about being logical about the demographics (in which case you should still be able to find at least two elves, dwarves or qunari).

Also consider that the Warden Commander could end up with two dwarf companions in Awakening thus making your argument invalid.

Well.. let's see... that'd make 2 human, 2 elf, 2 dwarf, 2 qunari... and one at will... ...

A female dwarf that I can hit on might just entice me to take a dwarven playthrough seriously. I'm not even on of those be-all end-all romance people. It'd be something new I think; that's for sure.

It's not the fact we only have one Dwarf that annoys me, it's the fact that we've already had said Dwarf as a companion before.

So basically we get 0 new Dwarf companions, which really sucks.

Agreed but I think they would have had a lot of writing potential with a female Qunari what with their culture being vastly different to the culture of the other races and the females' lifestyle also being different with how they're treated.
