Something tells me it may look like KoA Reckoning or Divinity 2 when it comes to exploration, both games have the game world split up into several areas rather then one large open world and from what little combat was shown in the gameplay trailer it looks a lot like KoA.

In Divinity 2 you could swim and take zero fall damage if there's a floor or water below no matter how high you fall, KoA doesn't have a jump button and you can only "jump" on certian interaction areas.

I've played both of those games and you could be right.

If I'm right then I'm a little worried about the reports that DA:I will require more strategy and pre-planning before adventuring, as neither of those games required much strategy or pre-planning to complete (though in the DKS version of Divinity 2 in a few fights it's a different story, but most of these can be beaten by out levelling enemies and having overpowerd gear).

KOA didn't need any strategy to play after a couple of levels. :P

I tried that Heartcore mod to make it challenging but I lost interest. Sad cause amalur was rather fun before it got ridiculously easy

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Yes they said that you need to plan your adventures between camps and stuff but I don't think that this means that it's actually difficult without planning and strategy - at least on normal and easier difficulties, and if you're overgeared/overleveld everything will be easy anyway.

I can see that being necessary on harder difficulties, though, but those always required careful planning anyway (or should require, I never played anything harder than normal so I wouldn't know).

on the topic of drowning, in Dark Souls you don't really drown you just fall to your death because there no swimming mechanic
