Generally, I am leaning toward an Infiltrator for this, specced with all the Melee perks and Fortification, but any insight for those who have tried this would be appreciated. One thing I've noticed is the game really does not love you going around Melee stuff. Mostly I was practicing on London with the Eviscerator. Not a great gun. Which reminds me, is the Shotgun Omni-blade worth it?

The weapon melee mods are damage multipliers, and the shotgun omniblade is the highest at 1.5x.
The most damaging melee build is going to be an Infiltrator with Sabotage (w/ rank 6 tech vulnerability) and Fortification as the bonus power. You would need to purge Fortification, then cloak->sabotage(tech vulnerability)->melee.

I'm doing a SP playthrough atm with a melee vanguard; fortification for bonus power, armor specc'd for melee, melee mods on weapons. Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about the MAXIMUM melee damage build because even on Insanity, you're going to be able to one-shot most mooks with your heavy melee anyways, especially after you get the Martial Artist (fitness rank 5) boost going. But that said, the infiltrator's probably right there with the Vanguard since one of the tricky parts about playing the melee build is getting into melee range in the first place- obviously Biotic Charge takes care of that, but being able to Cloak and then run up to the enemy gets the job done as well. I would imagine a melee shotgun infiltrator would be pretty freakin' sick.

There are a few builds out there. The most notable ones are as a Vanguard, a Sentinel and an Infiltrator with all of them sporting the melee damage armor. Both vids on Insanity I believe.
Vid of Inf in action with build in description:
Vid of Sentinel in action with build in description, though he's not using the melee armor. Still gets same results though:
I couldn't find a vid of a Vanguard in action though, but you go for the melee damage armor and exploit Nova's invincibility frames while using Charge to keep your shields up and meleeing when you can.
Personally I prefer Sentinel as the melee build. Extremely tanky and you can pretty much play like a Turian Sentinel in MP with it too if you want.

Another reason I skip melee is pressing the 'F' key repeatedly is not the tactics I prefer.
