hello, I am new here.

I'd like to edit powers and description of the spells. About powers, I believe I can edit the proper script file for each spell. I'll try this later.

First I'd like to edit the ingame description.

Is this possible, and how?

thank you :)

in the spells.2da (nwn2\data\2DA_X2.zip) there are two columns each for the spell's name and description. there you'll find a number which points to a string entry within the dialog.tlk in your nwn2 folder. with a tlk editor you can alter the text to your likes.

If this is for a specific module or campaign (rather than a general override mod), then you can create your own TLK file without the need to edit the game's entire dialogue file. You attach it to a module in a similar way to that of a HAK file. Then you can change the string reference in spells.2DA to use your custom TLK entries (which start at line 16777216).

Its best to use a TLK editor that can display custom TLK numbers rather than having to manually add 16777216 to the values in your 2das.

Also, what do you intend to do with these changes? Are you going to distribute it with something? Should it have compatibility with something?

Generally speaking its not a good idea to use dialog.tlk (and certainly not edit the one directly in your game install folder) as if you release then people have to override their main one.

Its best to have a custom one specific for your module.

If its something that should override everything though, and not be module dependent, then it has to be dialog.tlk that you then instruct people to put in their MyDocs\Neverwinter Nights 2\TLK folder (which would overwrite any other dialog.tlk they have there).  This also matters if you want it to be compatible with Kaedrin's pack because you need to make sure you don't use the same numbers as he does, same goes for any pack you want to be compantible with.  On top, you will need to merge your TLK with any tlk from packs you want to be compatible with.

hello, and thank you for rhe answers, They have been useful.

I have been able to edit this spell (the damage now is 8d6 per meteor rather then the poor 2d6/6d6)

NWN2_SS_060414_094156_g.jpg

I used a tool   NWN2TLKEdit Version 0.22 by simiy. I guess we cannot use the NWN2Toolset to modify the dialog.tlk? right?

I placed then the modified dialog.tlk in the MyDocs->Nwn2 folder, and seems to work as expected.

I used then the NWN2Toolset to modify the script associated with the meteor swarm, to change the damage accordingly to the new description, and placed the 2 script files generated in the myDocs->nwn2->Override folder. I believe it is working, because the enemies get more heavy damages from this spell now.

I don't use any other mods and I think I'll not release it as a mod, (I have the italian version of the game, so should be only for italian players, and I don't know how many there are around that would be interested).

If it is a better choice to create a new tlk file, how can I do it? The important for me, is that I can make custom description for the existing spells.

From sounds of it you don't need a custom tlk file.  But  its quite simple to do.  Using nwn2tlkedit just go to file->new and create a new one. Name it however you want.  then you have to go into your module properties and tell the module to use that tlk as your custom one.
