and she's got that same weird "scalp-detached-from-face" look the male qunaris did.
Please let Lady Inquisitor, Act, Walk, and Talk like a lady.

Pretty happy with the way female qunari Inquisitor walks. I never took much issue (or notice) with femHawke's walk *shrug* (femShep only bothered me because of how she held her head to the side - but mShep did that too from memory.)

Everything was wrong with ME2's animations.

So I noticed that the qunari lady in today's trailer had a pretty great, gender neutral run, but she's got the Lady Hawke sashay when walking. Sort of a... compromise, I guess? Thoughts?
Edit: good shot of walking animation at about 6:20.
When she walks slowly she has a very pronounced wiggle. More noticeable than FHawke, or maybe seeing the various vids posted here I've just become aware of what to look for.

The walking doesn't look as exaggerated as Female Hawkes did to me but the run is a wonderful improvement she doesn't look like her butt is about to sling up and slap her in the back of the head like Female Hawke's did. I normally have my PC running anyway so this for me at least won't be a big problem unless we've got to press a button repeatedly to run then it might be. Again I think her walk is much better than Female Hawke's walk doesn't look as exaggerated to me but I do see where you get the comparison I'm just happy its seems to have been toned back a bit.
Me too. I mean, it still looks pretty out of place in a battlefield for her to suddenly look like she's walking the catwalk. But if given the choice between a sexy walk and a sexy run, I'm glad they went with the walk. For one, it makes slightly more sense for someone to walk consciously a certain way than for them to slow themselves down by trying to do some kind of sexy run. And for another, who walks in a video game? Other than probably some cutscenes, she'll rarely walk around swinging those hips unless we want her to.
Now, that run! That run is flawless. I am so pleased to see how she runs. Totally appropriate for the setting, smoothly animated and not slapped on from a different build. I know it's a silly thing to be excited over when we've got frigging dragons flying around, but add this to the list of reasons why I want to hug a dev.

I didn't mind her walk. Like you guys have pointed out, her run was pretty great.
And honestly... I don't know, something about seeing such a large and intimidating-looking creature have a bit of sway to the hips was pleasantly surprising.

With that I kind of chalk it up to maybe having it be a trained walk (flimsy I know but anything to make sense in my little world makes it better for me) like I'm not the type to strut around but I have been trained (so to speak) to walk in a similar fashion since I was about 14. And the hip swing isn't that bad it looks a heck of a lot more natural than Female Hawke did with her limp wrist and swaying butt and chest but that's just me I can see how other people would be upset with her walk while I'm just glad that its toned down a lot from DA2
Agreed I love her run just a wonderful not overly sexy or a copy and paste run. Hey who says we can't be excited about both the run and the amazing dragons? They're both awesome ![]()

The sway when walking seems natural (and I'll admit it, sensual xD) enough. Not like Hawke's incredibly distracting (not in a good way) dislocated hip. And the run, as you guys said, is just perfect.

Yep. Chances are if my fem protag is walking anywhere it's a city. And definitely getting her strut on in the city ![]()

XD Mine'll probably walk when I have the patience for it. That strut pleases me greatly (and yeah thankfully the run looks function over form) so yeah...

Yeah, i very very seldom walk, and when I do I get antsy and start hurrying which ends up running. Unless it's horrendous, I don't usually notice, but then when I was growing up, my mom told me I walked like I was plowing the field, so I'm not real judgmental on their walk. The only one that stood out for me was Shepard and that was just painful to watch.

I'm tentatively enthusiastic about the demo Qunquisitor's walking/running animation. It didn't look as exaggerated as Hawke, but I'm not sure if that robe she was wearing had anything to do with it.

I do wish that one of our female Bioware protagonists would walk like Lady Yuna from FFX-2
. I run with my arms to the side like a girl, I want to be silly and girly in game too lol.
I don't think this will ever happen in a Bioware game though.

If you've seen the dwarf demo it looks really natural with Vivienne. Maybe because she comes across as a sort of diva

I don't want femine supermodel walks to my Inquisitors. They aren't wearing high heels. Female Hawke was already bad enough, she looked like she tried to seduce someone all the time ugh. I love my tomboy fem shep although she runs like a frog, she is soldier and looks like that.

I forget which trailer it was in, but I know there's footage of both Sera and Vivienne walking, and in my opinion Sera's hip sway looked much more exaggerated than Vivienne's. ![]()
But I agree that, if BioWare had the resources to give each companion their own unique body model and animations, an exaggerated hip sway would fit Vivienne.

I doubt it, have you been hearing the uproar with Ubisoft? Doing this would be quite excessive even if it wasn't as hard. (and also judging by bioware's history)

I love BioWare and appreciate the emphasis they put on narrative and characters, but yeah... the tech they use, especially for animation, seems to be lagging behind other AAA studios.
Ah well, you can't have it all...

It has something to do with the structure of the pelvis so it's not like it is not correct even if people don't agree with it. There is also some more controversial research on why women swing their hips, but since it looks like a powder keg I'll leave that to google for interested parties.
In retrospect, I couldn't agree more, my typos aside in the original post, I was worried how I'd come off to other people, I love the female form, it is a thing of beauty when well maintained, but you can only say but so much before someone becomes up tight or claims your being sexist.

Taking the budget into account, having different walking styles and body animations to display femininity/masculinity is pretty much at the bottom of my list of wants. When you take everything else into account, I really don't see why this is such a big deal for some people.
the problem with this is is that it's like saying, "We know other games with smaller budgets and less talent, have created a away to have your cake and eat it too, but we don't care, play it or not."

You think men and women have a different frame of mind? You're obviously a sexist pig!
But thats not going to happen. Despiste all the talk of my Hawke or my Inquisitor They are no less defined in their place in the story than a character like Geralt. If you think about it , the things you can change like name and ethnicity have zero impact on anything. It's just not realistic to expect to have control over the character to that level in a voice acted game.
You have a large amount more control. You don't have any control over Geralt's "character," his frame of mind, the way he thinks or acts. You do have this control in DA, with your dialog options. And DA ][, for all its faults, allowed you to set the "approach" or emotional norm ("tones" the game calls it) or whatever, of Hawke. All TW options are in the delightful tone of monotone.
Back on topic, This came up with ME3. ME1 did it best, IMO, though the way her arms moved was a little weird.

Basing it on how people actually walk would seem the best way to go. Although everyone walks differently based on pelvis structure, weight, foot structure and a few other things.
Although I think even ignoring the fact that femshep is wearing a dress, sitting like that in trousers is not really appropriate. I don't know of anyone (either gender) that sits like that though.
Sits like what? Legs slightly spread?
Then you can't know a lot of men ![]()
