The problem with Femshep's run is that she's flailing her elbows around and holding her arms far away from her body because Broshep needed to hold his arms further out to avoid brushing them against his broader frame.  When you take the animation for a large body and scale it down to someone with skinny noodle arms, it looks absolutey wrong.

Now, Femshep sitting with her knees splayed apart?  That I'm cool with, because she's a soldier, and already kind of "one of the guys."  That cocktail dress is so outside of what she'd choose to wear normally that I could easily see her just forgetting that she's wearing something inappropriate for that way of sitting.

I don't necessarily want Lady Hawke's pendulum hips, either, but at least it's made for a body of her shape and size.  I hope the Inquisitor just dials back the runway strut to something more normal.

The game should give us the option of acting however we want. If I want a girly frou-frou girl fine, if I want a macho girl who will break your nose? Fine. If I want a "feminine" guy? Fine. I don't want to be forced to be some kind of stereotype that will make me not want to play as my own gender.

I like this idea a lot.

It would be wonderful if we could choose our walk animation in character creator.

I really want a frou-frou girly girl Qunari.

Yeah, FemShep's main issue in ME2 was due to the body animations being designed for MaleShep's size. BW was too lazy to bother adjusting things for FemShep. It was nice to finally see it fixed in ME3.

Taking the budget into account, having different walking styles and body animations to display femininity/masculinity is pretty much at the bottom of my list of wants. When you take everything else into account, I really don't see why this is such a big deal for some people.

Not just you. Unless they are doing something blatantly unrealistic everyone is always going to have their own ideas on what is right anyway. There are women who walk like FHawke even if some people don't see that as ideal. I think it's good enough to cover Bioware.

The problem with her walk is that it has a lot of character. When I play an RPG all I want from the devs is a blank slate with ways to define my character through dialogue. But I have a hard time believing people who say they have no problem with FHawke's walk would also not have a problem if MHawke had a characterful effeminate walk. By your logic there would be nothing wrong with it, as there are men who walk like that in real life even if some people don't see it as ideal. However, it would differ enough from neutral to be notable. FHawke's walk, run, and idle animations were far from neutral and were notable. Maybe some people accepting it is good enough to cover Bioware, but since Bioware is in the business of RPGs, they should be aiming to do a lot better than covering themselves.

Was it fixed for ME3?  Because I found that one just as bad, if not worse, for Femshep's run completely not fitting her.

The walking animation was definitely fixed, but the running animation looked more or less the same.

Not surprising considering most of the complaints centered around the former.

That is something each person has to ask themselves, but it doesn't necessarily change what someone else thinks a lady should be like.

What?

They fixed one but not the other? What a strange, half-assed decision.  The run always bothered me more than the walk, since you spend more time running than walking.

^ I thought it depended on which armor you were using? Maybe not; it's been forever since I played, so I have no idea.

The only thing that annoyed me with femSheps walk (in ME2) was that she looked slightly deranged when she ran, with her head to one side (more noticeable in civvies). The animation for sitting when she wore a dress was just a consequence of set animations - one they later recitified.

Anyway, I like swishing my hips and still being guddam badass.

If I ever tried walking like FemHawke did while wearing full plate, I would throw out a hip.  FemShep and FemHawke both look ridiculous when moving. Their male counterparts didn't. Gender neutral is the way to go. And if there must be hip swaying, (though I've never witnesses anyone walking like that), make it less pronounced and more natural...unlike FemHawkes back breaking sway.

And what on earth is act and talk like a lady suppose to mean. <_<   Many people want to play a makeup loving, heel wearing Inquisitor with long flowing hair others want to shave their avatars head and give them horrific scars. People want this when playing both genders and they should be able to do that. If I make a femquisitor that fits each of those bills, both are acting, walking, and talking like a lady, regardless of if that fits within anyone's narrow gender normative definition of a lady or not.

I hope the walking and running animation for the female Inquisitor is a lot more neutral than for female Hawke. To me the running animation looked like it was designed more to look pleasing to men than for women to identify with.

I have yet to complete DA2 with a female Hawke because I really cannot stand looking at it.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person who had a serious issue with it.  Because of the way the 3rd person camera works in the game, you can't not be watching it through most of the game - and it looked to me like poor Lady Hawke was constantly desperately trolling for sexual attention with all that wiggling.

As near as I can tell from the gameplay videos I've seen, Cassandra appears to have a fairly neutral gait, though it's a little tough to tell - either her shield is blocking the view somewhat or she's in battle mode.  Vivienne, OTOH, appears to be all about dat ass - her outfit was designed to give the appearance of a butt window.

So - I've not pre-ordered.  I'm hoping to see some good footage of the female inquisitor soon.

I would rather the inquisiwoman walk like a human being than a sex object.  I repeatedly pointed out in past threads, here and the old BSN, that the way she moved in-game looked like the exaggerated sway from the Baywatch ladies--and they were exaggerating how they ran on purpose because Baywatch was, beyond the lifeguard plots and stories, all about showing off the lifeguard characters' bodies.

The fact that Laidlaw was all about how "sexy" Lady Hawke was, is telling.  Is there anything wrong with real-world people moving that way, or liking to do so?  No.  But in a game, it is intentionally sexualizing the character, and her movements just looked horribly awkward to me.  I was actually embarrassed to play her.  I finally got past it, but it's one of the reasons, along with Anders, that I didn't ever replay DA2.  Sure, I COULD play the male version, but I don't want to--and it's especially galling that he gets to walk like an actual human being, and she gets to walk/run like a sexbot.

So:  I'd rather there be a gender-neutral movement set, something in-between Linebacker Shep and Smexy Hips Hawke.  You know, like... a normal person.

As for "talking and acting like a lady," well, there's really no set definition for that.  And I'm glad, because I don't want my female character's dialogue to differ drastically from the male's.  I don't want Anders to quietly avoid telling my female character something he'd tell a male character.  Now the 'legs spread while talking to Garrus" thing is an exception, but really M-Shep should not have been sitting in that goofy pose either, I think.  Made him look bored to talk to Garrus, in which case why was he even there talking to Garrus?  But as for dialogue... there's really very few things that would be gender-specific.  Mostly they involve pronouns and sometimes how other characters might be reacting differently based on your gender (i.e. if there's attraction).  Otherwise, dialogue is and should remain gender-neutral.

Suggestion comes too late. I doubt they'd create a new animation let alone give you the option of choosing one now. It actually has been mentioned before so if Bioware hasn't already done it by now, it's just not going to be done.

Also, I think people should keep the discussion to the DA franchise.

I just want to go on record that I think the Femshep in that screenshot is just showing Garrus the goods.

I think the Animations are probably done with Mo-Cap for DA:I, so you'll probably have to blame the Mo-cap actress or the director of the session if it's not to your liking. As for DA2, I know many people will disagree with me, but I never felt "Hawke" was intended to be a blank slate character. Just a character you select temperament for. And everything in DA2 was over-stylized, so gyrating butt Female Hawke is consistent with this design choice. (Which I didn't like but just putting that out there.)

Yeah, I wanted to run up behind femshep and tell her to get those arms in soldier. This isnt playtime, move those arms! Keep em close! Uh, yeah as an ex-soldier those lines were heard in basic training. So femshep was little detracting to me.

I of course didnt mind femhawke wiggling, it shouldnt been so sexualized though.

Hopefully femquisitor will be alot better in these cases. :)

More people do care about combat in the game than walking style.

That said, I too wouldn't mind if they gave a choice in the matter of walking/running animations if they can.

So I googled "a lady" and got this:

Spoiler

Is that what you mean, or....?

I don't think many of us are going to buy Inquisition so we could drink tea, play the piano, and study French. Or whatever it is that "Ladies" do.

Hmmmm...

JESUS! So where's the "strong and sexy" male walk for those of us who are attracted to men?? :P I am sooooo tired of female-anything having to be sexy.
